YouTube Layout

Okay, so YouTube updated their layout AGAIN. It's getting really annoying having to adjust to some new feature, then having them add something entirely new. They honestly seem to be causing more problems than their solving. C+ for effort though.

So what do you guys think of it?

E: Yes I watch UberHaxorNova, This just happens to be the video I was on when it changed.

Varrok 12-06-2012 01:29 PM

I still have the old one

Vyrien 12-06-2012 01:43 PM

I have the new one on my laptop, don't like it much. I miss the 'see more videos' thing along the top.

I don't understand why they feel the need to change the layout so much, it feels like just as we get used to the old one, they replace it with a new one.

Irritating.

I agree.

I realise I have this in Large Player but even in Small Player there is still a large empty space to the left when the new, 'Guide' function isn't in use.

Sekto Springs 12-06-2012 01:58 PM

Deal with it.

dripik 12-06-2012 02:14 PM

I had a laugh watching one of my videos with this automated captioning feature, it's like a surreal conversation generator of sorts.

The layout is something that I'll get used to eventually.

Nate 12-06-2012 03:44 PM

I don't mind the new layout. It does somewhat annoy me that it keeps going back and forth between the old and new ones, though.

But what bugs me most of all is that neither layout saves my settings. I like my videos to play in wide view at 720p. Why do I have to reset that every fucking time?

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 04:05 PM

New layout seems alright for me. I especially like how you can view all your subscriptions on the front page by scrolling down the sidebar. That's nice.

it's UToob, man. same as Fucking Facefuck. think of those types of sites in the same way you think of public toilets; useful on occasion, but no amount of 'updates' will hide the fact that it stinks of shit and piss. and dead whores.

DarkHoodness 12-06-2012 04:32 PM

I wouldn't mind so bad if the layout was centred rather than to the goddamned left of the screen... Also, what was wrong with the old layout? Now I have to learn where everything is again. The old player looked a little better than the new one, too.

Tadimo 12-06-2012 06:04 PM

I also prefer the old layout, if only because it was centered. Also it could be me but it seems that the video previews at the top are in worse quality as well.

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 06:22 PM

The new player does look a bit odd.

xXxrenhoekxXx 12-06-2012 08:30 PM

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't push everything to the left.

and WHY IS THERE A EMPTY VOID OF NOTHINGNESS!?

Nate 12-06-2012 09:41 PM

Also, why does the 'Share' button bring up the video's URL? I can already get the video's URL! What I want is the embed code; I shouldn't have to click twice to get that. Also, why isn't the 'Start at' option available for embed codes?

Phylum 12-06-2012 09:51 PM

Doesn't the sahre button bring up a shortened youtu.be address?

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 10:03 PM

Yeah. It's utterly pointless.

And you can't get the embedded video to play from a certain point, but apparently you can do that with the "shortened YouTube link" thing. What.

Phylum 12-06-2012 10:05 PM

You can do that with embed code, I just don't think it's the same process as with the URLs.

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 10:10 PM

Yeah you can, it's just not nearly as simplistic. Gotta jump through a few hoops to do it. I think.

Phylum 12-06-2012 10:22 PM

Tacking #t=x onto the end of the URL should do it.

Quote me or view the source to see how it works. It's easier with the new iframe format.

Also, in getting the sembed code for that I noticed just how much empty space there is at the right hand side. I hate to imagine what it would look like on my 1200x800 Macbook.

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 10:38 PM

Yeah, I've noticed that too while watching a few videos.

There are a couple things I like about this new YT, though. I like how it shows all the recent videos uploaded by a user recently on the sidebar. That's something that should've come out some time ago.

The other (and it's quite small but still a nice little addition) is how they finally decided to make your avatar/profile picture show up next to your comment. Again, it's nothing that is needed, per se, but it's still quite pleasing to the eye.

also you're really tempting me to just go ahead and listen to that Sufjan song. Ahh, I told myself I would wait until Christmas, and wait I shall. But you're not making it easy!

Crashpunk 12-06-2012 11:46 PM

I don't like it. The Homepage layout looks like it's deigned for a tablet but has somehow been placed on the actual website. Everything is on the left side leaving a big gap on the right (apart from your channel).

I was getting used to the layout and they yet again resigned it. At least they haven't touched the channel layouts...

...yet.

Mr. Bungle 12-06-2012 11:49 PM

The homepage has been pretty awful for a while now, so this new update doesn't really change that.

I remember the first time they changed the channel layouts. That was awful.

Tacking #t=x onto the end of the URL should do it.

I know it's possible. It just makes no sense that they give an easy way to do it for URLs but not for embed codes.

Besides, who the hell actually visits Youtube's main page. I only ever view videos from links, or from searching in Firefox's search box/search shortcuts.

People who are subscribed to channels and want to see new content from them?

Varrok 12-07-2012 11:35 AM

There's a Subscriptions page for that.

This. You really don't need to go to the main page every time you want to check your subscriptions.

Crashpunk 12-07-2012 11:39 AM

I have the YouTube homepage in my bookmarks and it shows my subscription feeds. Why waste time clicking on 'Subscriptions' when they are already shown :)

Steamer_KING 12-07-2012 11:41 AM

And you can access them through your logo and name. Whatever suits you best.

MeechMunchie 12-08-2012 03:30 AM

I use low-latency Feather mode, so I don't care.

Crashpunk 12-09-2012 09:24 AM

The homepage's layout is still effected even with that on.
