IE for Xbox
 

I don`t think this thread should be in non oddworld gaming. But if a mod feels it should be then feel free to move it there.

So today a new system update for Xbox was released and with the update comes Internet Explorer. I have created this thread using IE. Thankfully I own an Xbox chatpad so typing messages like this is easy and quick. But you can of course use a USB Keyboard.

For those who I have IE. What do you think of it? I think it is excellent. My only complaint is that you can`t use flash and at least for me, the saturation is too high. Apart from that. I love it. What do you think?

IE has improved a lot over the years but I still won't use it on the PC 'cause there are far better alternatives.

Having it on a console is good thing though - Preferences and opinion aside, at least it's an actual, proper browser, compared to what you normally get on consoles. Now why can't the PS3 have a proper browser? Maybe this will prompt Sony to update that.

Ah yes, the update that removed the Twitter and Facebook apps and gave you IE in return. Microsoft up to their usual business of forcing people to use their shit. Who uses a browser on their console anyway.

Sounds awful. Then again, Internet Explorer on anything sounds awful.

I happy with Chrome for my computer. The Facebook and Twitter apps for Xbox were awful anyway, so being able to use them properly through an internet browser is an improvement.

Consoles can make a decent second 'net device if your computer is occupied or broken. Or if you're simply on the console anyway and can't be bothered to boot up your PC just to check something. I only wish the PS3 had a better browser - It's so terrible, even crappy IE would be an improvement.

Ah yes, Microsoft removing the Microsoft-produced Facebook and Twitter and replacing them with the Microsoft-produced IE. How anti-competitive of them.

I was in the beta test for the latest dashboard update and IE really impressed me. I thought the way the controller was used was smart and intuitive, and the browser actually rendered most pages properly (unlike 99% of non-PC browsers).

Funny, I was just thinking the other day that Microsoft should implement a browser on the Xbox. Glad to see they finally did. Sad (but not surprised) that it's IE.

I'm not saying they ever would, I'm just saying that IE is a shit browser.

Is this usable in any way by people who don't own bluetooth keyboards or gamepads? I can't imagine it would be easy.


On a related note, I really want an Android app that lets me use my phone as a bluetooth keyboard for my PS3. Sony have an app that does just that for their smart tvs, but they haven't made it PS3 compatible for some reason.

Microsoft is releasing an app in two days that does almost exactly what you ask, I'm not sure if it will work as a keyboard, but it will make browsing the web on the Xbox just like it is on your phone.

You don't need the browser to require a good keyboard. Just last week I had to enter my (37 character) wifi password in several times because the onscreen keyboard is so crappy that I kept missing letters and it took frigging ages.

I would like to say that the Console browser serves a valuable purpose in keeping me from shifting my bulk to face a computer screen. Now you can do literally anything from home assuming you own a vineyard.

I will not be browsing the Internet on my Xbox. I don't need viruses on a games console.

Are most viruses even compatible with Xbox 360s? I've never heard of anyone getting a one on their PS3 or Wii from internet browsing.

Then again, who browses the internet on their Wii.
