Who Wants To Make A Comic? v.4

There appears to be a slight decrease of activity here in the FC section (and in NOA&L), also on my part as mod, I have to admit. So in the hope of rectifying this problem somewhat, I shall bring back an old NOA&L game which enjoyed quite a lot of attention back in its day, having three consecutive versions. It was originally introduced here on OWF by T-nex, followed by an edition moderated by Splat and then another one by me in 2009 (see the links of the appropriate threads below).

The point of this game is to create a comic, frame by frame, by a group of people. The twist is that the participants, in drawing their own frame, can only rely on the frame preceding theirs. In other words, you are not aware of the whole of the comic until everyone is finished and I edit the separate frames into a whole comic. The (possible) charm of the comics resulted in the ensuing randomness.

Here I shall post the rules of the game, same as they appeared in the last edition, originally written by Splat.

:

The rules:
I take 6 people (probably the first 6 people to apply here) to each make a panel of a comic.
The first person makes the first frame of a comic based on the theme stated below. Once complete, they send their frame to the second person on the list, and to me. The second person then makes the second frame of the comic, following on from the first person's. They then send their frame, and ONLY their frame, to me, and to the next person on the list.
Person number 3 makes their frame based on the one they recieved from person 2, and then sends their frame to me, and to person 4.
And so on until we reach person 6, who finishes the comic. Hopefully we should end up with something rather funny.

You can draw by hand or by computer. The image must be no larger than 1000x1000, so be careful if you're drawing it by hand.

An explanatory addendum, written by me.

:

To sum it up:
Step 1) You receive a frame from the person preceding you (if you're the first on the list, this will not happen, don't get confused).
Step 2) You draw a new frame which logically (or less so) follows the previous frame (the one you received from the person before you).
Step 3) You send your finished frame to the next person on the list, and to me (if you're the last person on the list, you send it only to me).
Step 4) You feel proud that you could understand the rules and carried out the task accordingly.

If you're interested, say so in a post below and I shall add your name to the list of participants. I think the usual number of 6 people is good, but if there are more who are interested, I think we could extend the number. Point is, we shouldn't drag the duration of the game out too much - we need people to finish their frame in a short amount of time, or at least keep the rest updated on their progress.

Now, the first person obviously has no preceding frame to rely on. This problem is solved by me choosing a word at random and having that as the starting theme/cue on which the first participant can base their frame.

The starting word of WWTMAC v.4, after consulting Poe's The Purloined Letter and pointing at a word at random with eyes closed, shall be: concealed.

I think I have summarised the aim and manner of this game above, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

List of participants:

1. Varrok (finished)
2. enchilado (finished)
3. MeechMunchie (finished)
4. Nepsotic (finished)
5. DarkHoodness (working)
6. Carnix
7. Splat

Previous versions of WWTMAC:
WWTMAC 1
WWTMAC 2
WWTMAC 3

Varrok 07-08-2012 02:42 AM

Hey, that sounds fun, count me in!

...what's a concealed?

enchilado 07-08-2012 02:48 AM

You can put me down as being up for it.

JayDee 07-08-2012 03:02 AM

Sure, why not? I'm in.

MeechMunchie 07-08-2012 03:20 AM

I'm in! Provided my DesDemoc following don't tranquilise me.

...what's a concealed?

It means "hidden" or "disguised".

Carnix 07-08-2012 04:26 AM

Has it really been 3 years since the WWTMAC3? That seems so long ago..

For nostalgia's sake, I'm in! That is, if you'll tolerate me, of course.

Nepsotic 07-08-2012 07:25 AM

Aw,that sucks. I'd love to do this. Oh well.

Also, Carnix just posted? What the fuck? Or do you only knock about in FC now?

DarkHoodness 07-08-2012 07:27 AM

If this is still going on in 2 weeks time I may chip in. It sounds fun. :)

Clarify? What's preventing you from joining?

We now have seven people. Are you guys fine with the order you posted in? That is:

1. Varrok
2. enchilado
3. J_dude320
4. MeechMunchie
5. Carnix
6. Nepsotic
7. DarkHoodness

Edd, there is a good chance the game won't progress so far until that time, so two weeks' time should be OK.

Splat 07-08-2012 07:54 AM

I'll step in as a replacement if someone drops out!

JayDee 07-08-2012 07:58 AM

That order looks fine to me

Varrok 07-08-2012 09:58 AM

I'm fine with the order. Is it fine if I made mine in black & white? Not like I have a concept at the moment, but I usually draw stuff like that

dripik 07-08-2012 10:18 AM

Any style is OK, just look up the previous versions and see how different each and every comic frame was. Pencil, ink, hand-drawn, digital art, black-and-white, coloured, your choice.

I suppose we could aim for 8 people for the moment (I'll add you to the list, Splat). If we have more people who are interested, we could add them to a waiting list, and have that list as the starting group for the next version of WWTMAC.

Also, I don't think it's necessary to have years passing between different versions, if there is interest in this. Where did that tradition even come from?

scrabface 07-08-2012 10:27 AM

yeah please put me on the waiting list

I never really "knocked about" outside of FC.

All good by me.

I don't have a computer.

Yeah, you may have to knock me out :(

Unless I can find a decent app on the android market, though it's very unlikely. Maybe I'll just have to sit back and watch.
E: Wait! On second thought, I could do something with my sisters laptop. What the hell, I'm in.

Splat 07-08-2012 03:20 PM

Last place, eh? Lotta responsibility there. Varrok, you may begin when ready (if Dripik's ok with me saying that).

Varrok 07-08-2012 03:26 PM

Okay, I'll try to make it by today... I mean, after I sleep, it's kinda late

JayDee 07-08-2012 03:44 PM

Make it good for the ones of us who further down the line. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all.. :D

You could try drawing your panel good-ol' pen-n-paper style, then spending a couple of hours trying to get a good photograph of it with your android.

Cave Johnson, here! No hand-holding.

moxco 07-08-2012 10:55 PM

I would love to take someone's place if for some unfortunate reason they decide to pull out. Though is there really any reason to limit the amount of participants (and therefore frames) in the comic?

Only what I said above. The more participants/frames we have, the more we have to wait for the result, which already took quite a while when we had only six frames.

If people respond swiftly and frames will be coming in quick, I might extend the list to the people on the waiting list.

E'l Scrabino 07-09-2012 01:00 AM

I'd like to join in on this. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Splat 07-09-2012 11:42 AM

Um, we really need some security as to the length of the comic, especially now it's started. Also, I think that the longer the comic is, the weaker it'll be, as the end will be more and more divorced from the beginning.

Nepsotic 07-09-2012 11:54 AM

Isn't that the point, though?

Fluff [: 07-09-2012 01:07 PM

well ill be on the waiting list (: just pm me if you have space and time

Varrok 07-09-2012 01:29 PM

Just wanna say that I finished my frame and sent it to Driptik and Enchillado. I hope I did everything correctly D:

JayDee 07-09-2012 01:33 PM

Lets the fourth annual Hunger Comic Games, Begin!

dripik 07-10-2012 12:38 AM

Well done, Varrok.

As a reminder, make sure you only send your frame forward to the person after you, without the frame you received from the person before you.

enchilado 07-11-2012 01:23 AM

I was out yesterday and today, sorry for the delay. I'll try to get my frame finished this evening.
