Oddworld Recordings..

Sup (The Sky), I plan to "Attempt" to do a playthrough of Abe's odyssey, I have it on PC but I would like to know: What is the best way to record it?

Phylum 06-24-2012 03:53 AM

This is probably more of an Oddworld Help question.

The common screen recording programs used by everyone are Fraps and Hypercam. Look into those.

RoryF 06-24-2012 03:54 AM

Use Camtasia is possible.

When recording always set recording area to 640x480 and put the area to record in the top left corner of your screen. Otherwise you'll have loads of black space on your screen.

Sowhart 06-24-2012 03:57 AM

ok, ill try that out. Thanks

Crashpunk 06-24-2012 05:50 AM

Hypercam 2

I used it in my Let's Play Abe's Exoddus. Worked perfectly.

Yer, I dont really like HyperCam 2, I have full/free camtasia.
I'll have to check out your playthough of Exoddus.

Watching part 1 now! lolz.

I did a complete walkthrough of Abe's Oddysee using Fraps. First part below to show off the quality, rest of the parts shown in this thread, click here.

I used Fraps to record AO, but it's a bit complex and not entirely stable - You do get decent quality footage, though. (SAVE YOUR GAME OFTEN IF YOU USE THIS METHOD, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH)

This is how you do this:
1) You need DX wind. Get it here.
2) Set up DXwind to display Abe's Oddysee in your screen resolution. Also turn off window borders.
3) Run Abe's Oddysee with Dxwind. To centre it on the screen, auto-hide your Windows taskbar. Weird, I know, but it works. You can press your windows key at any time to access your taskbar and other apps even though you cannot minimise Abe's Oddysee.
4) Set up Fraps to monitor windows desktop. You can now record AO even if it's a little temperamental at times.

Crashpunk 06-24-2012 09:37 AM

The only problem I have with Fraps is that it saves in huuuge file sizes.

DarkHoodness 06-24-2012 09:46 AM

This is why you use a video editor to cut down the filesizes before uploading them. I will say that processing them takes forever though, even if you have a multicore processor like I do. Takes even longer if you don't. :S

Yer, We used FRAPS in my gaming group for good quality and it takes us around 6 hours to upload a video for the decent quality, anyway I am enjoying the Exodus Playthrough by Crash/Wariopunk and I started my oddysee playthrough, got better qualty then I thought it would be!

Well I did part 1 though all I showed was the intro cutscene. yer, its a bit crap at the moment and I am not the best at commentary! XD
Ill put the link here:

p.s. Please mind the crappy sonic videos, I just wanted some content from my old channel and just randomly put them on there.

Edit: Replying to Nepsotic, I am also not the best person when it comes to grammer or mostly spelling... Antidisestablishmentarism - See why? I don't know if I did spell that correctly! XD

I use Hypercam 2 to record all my videos.

JennyGenesis 07-08-2012 03:13 AM

I used a great piece of software to record my LP's called Good Screen Recorder Lite. I'm not if it's available for Windows and Linux but it was great for my LP as I set the only audio recording to come from my built in microphone, which meant it would record the audio coming from the speakers as well as picking my voice as I play.

The only restriction on the free version is a recording limit of 8 minutes per clip.

Nepsotic 07-08-2012 06:25 AM

Ah well, nothing a bit of editing can't sort out.

Fischkopf 07-10-2012 01:33 AM

CamStudio is good for that, AND it's free.

I used CamStudio when i had my previous slow computers and using still. It's good program too for slower computers. When i tested HyperCam on slow computer, it freezed totally when i tried record Abe's Exoddus...

But, everyone have own taste... :)

Nepsotic 07-10-2012 06:33 AM

I used PC Hand to record some videos.
