Revolution.

Why don't blog comments count as posts? They should.

Varrok 06-09-2012 01:34 PM

Why can't we rep blog posts?

Daxter King 06-09-2012 01:34 PM

We should.

Wil 06-09-2012 01:37 PM

If they are to count as posts, we might as well ditch blogs and just use threads. At which point we'll get pissed off at using threads as blogs and wish we had some kind of blogging system.

Jordan 06-09-2012 01:39 PM

Blogs are an excuse to spam without getting told off.

Phylum 06-09-2012 04:38 PM

The mods are Nate is more lax about moderating it because it doesn't count for posts and you can't +rep the comments.

Nate 06-09-2012 06:30 PM

Even if all the good points made in the previous posts were ignored, it's impossible to count blog comments as posts. vBulletin simply doesn't support it.

Ditto with repping blogs and comments, unfortunately.

Strike Witch 06-09-2012 11:14 PM

Bring forth the guillotine!

Manco 06-10-2012 01:29 AM

Is the blog system a third party plugin or a built in feature of vBulletin?

Wil 06-10-2012 01:30 AM

Built in feature of vBulletin.

DarkHoodness 06-10-2012 01:48 AM

EDIT: Never mind, I said something stupid.

Varrok 06-10-2012 02:03 AM

There goes all my fun.

Built in feature of vBulletin.

Is it still a feature in later versions of vBulletin? Have any changes been made since 3.6.1?

Plenty of changes and improvements, though I don't think counting them as posts is one of them.

I’d be happy even if it’s just integrated with the rep system, or allowing actual quotes instead of copy/pasting into the editor.

Oh hell yes. It got quite annoying for me

Nate 06-10-2012 06:26 AM

Peter refuses to upgrade beyond the current version of vBulletin because (a) he doesn't like vBulletin 4.0 and (b) he's convinced himself that he can single-handedly develop fully-fledged forum software that will be completely backwards compatible with the existing forum data.

Manco 06-10-2012 06:47 AM

How dreadful.

MA 06-10-2012 10:30 AM

i don't like change. i hyperventilated when i logged on and found the rep squares had been changed to mudokon/glukkon heads.

Even if he hates 4.0 (which works just fine since I've been using it for over year), there are newer versions for the 3.x series as well. Updated as far as 3.8.7 I believe.

Wil 06-11-2012 04:43 AM

It's more a matter of ethical objection to the vBulletin company. Or some shit.

Manco 06-11-2012 08:28 AM

So how long has he been working on his own forum?

Wil 06-11-2012 08:45 AM

Since at least OddTour 3, which was in 2008.

Manco 06-11-2012 08:54 AM

Has he ever showed anyone his progress?

Yes, all the time.

... Oh, progress. No idea.

OANST 06-11-2012 02:15 PM

This is like when someone asked why the Constitution of the United States doesn't count black folk as people, and Nate told them it just doesn't, that's why. Why are you always on the wrong side of history, Nate?

Varrok 06-11-2012 02:42 PM

Strike Witch 06-11-2012 11:57 PM

Because the black man is twice the white man.

They count as 2 people.

kingW3 06-12-2012 06:26 AM

I think those old versions are vulnerable, not sure is it true but i know 1 forum that was exploited maybe it was and earlier version than they uprgraded to 4

Varrok 06-12-2012 08:19 AM

While the thread's still active, I have a question: What makes the "You must spread more rep before giving it to XXX again" appear? I'm confused because that happened with an user I haven't rep in a fairly long time
