Rep Power
It has come to our attention lately that some people have freaking huge rep power. That means that their rep-gifting has significant effect, whereas newer members count for little. In order to even it out, the formula for calculating rep power has been changed:
1 point for joining. 1 point for every year you've been a member. 1 point for every 1500 posts (formerly 1000). 1 point for every 1500 rep points (formerly 500). Yes, everyone's rep power will drop down. However, the people who currently have low rep power will only drop very little, whereas people with large power will drop quite a lot, so proportionally the majority of our members will be better off. It should be noted that your actual rep level will not be affected. |
Yay, I was so woried about my 4 points Rep Power was way too much. : o
Also, I always wondered how does that work: Why is an opinion of a person who registered 3 years before me and then did litteraly nothing (even didn't bother to read the forums) worth double of mine? |
:
Oh well, at least now it will take Meechmunchie that much longer to pass me. The bastard. |

I can't help but notice that this puts Nate 2nd in terms of rep power.
|
I am the 99%!
Well, no, I'm the 1%. But I fight to protect the 99%! |

Sure, feel free to spam topics if you want to increase your rep power. Then you'll how quickly you get negrepped and have it all cancelled out.
Also, your rep power decreases to zero once you've been banned. :p |
I'm not sure if you understood my point: I'm basically saying that I'm avoiding to write posts like "Yeah, I agree with *person_here*" or other that aren't strictly considered "spamming" (and so nobody negreps them) but, let's be honest, nobody gives a damn about. I only write when I think the post is gonna be at least good, and that's why I'm stuck to <1000 posts in these 3 years after joining and feel fucked because of not sharing with every though I have :)
EDIT: I noticed GLaDOS having 0 rep power. Shouldn't it be 1? |
Noooo, don't take any of my rep away.
|
*Posts just to see what current Rep Power is.*
Also, seriously Wil? What's with the huge ass avatar? |
I now share rep power with Havoc and Chris.
Huh. |
Interesting, supply side policies to affect inflation. Good thinking.

And 1 point every 1500 pos reps? Seriously? I remember when it was just 100... And what do the little mudokon heads mean? I never actually figured it out. |
100?
|
Ages ago wasn't it every 100 +reps you went up a point?
|
I guess, but I'm surprized because you joined at Aug 2011.
|
I lurked for many years because I didn't feel the need to join
|
You must have missed even more rep power points than me : D
|
I have so little posts compaired to my join date and other people. I completely forgot about the forums between late 2009 and and only just really came back when Paul came back with the level editor.
I missed a lot. |
Then you are in luck! Since the rate at which you gain rep power per length of membership is unchanged, those who have been a member longer have their rep power shifted upwards in the rankings. That's why I now have more rep power than Nate.
|
And this is important because...?

Good for you! |
This is a flagrant attempt to force socialist ideals upon the forum!
I’m sure this will enrage someone! |

But it did teach me that I was being a whiny bitch in that thread though, so I guess the neg-rep wasn't too bad. |
Well you obviously haven't learnt...
<3 |
Well, the system still works, at least.
