Permanently stuck in Paramonian Temple?
 

Hello all! I've been playing Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee properly for the first time recently and have found myself stuck in a particular section of the Paramonian Temple.

Below is an image detailing where I'm stuck;

The problem is that there are two Paramites waiting for me on the left, one visible in this screen and the other in the next. I only found out afterwards that I was supposed to kill them with the rolling disc, as I originally just lured them away individually.

Basically I can't get out of this little area. As soon as I enter the screen left of this the pair of Paramites instantly pounce on me, I can't even jump to the ledge above. I've tried everything at this stage. Am I completely screwed?

You don't have any previous savegames? You could try sending me yours and I'll try to get past them if you really want to complete it that way (assuming you've got steam AO version)

I do, but the most recent one is all the way back in Stockyard Escape, foolishly enough. And yeah it's the Oddboxx.

Wait I just had a thought, do you keep pieces of meat in between portal travelling?

I think. As long it's not a huge travel distance.

also I've had experience in the editor, yes you can
the secret area and the temple are actually in the same map so you'd keep the meat (if you collected them.).

Okay that didn't work out, there's no way near enough time to pick up the meat in the secret area and escape the three oncoming Paramites.

Welp, guess it's back to Stockyard Escape for me then. Thanks for the help anyways.

I thought Oddysee’s saves didn’t save your exact position? Couldn’t you just save, quit out and then restart that area?

I believe there's a checkpoint in the secret area, before the bird portal. If he's passed that, there'll be no way of returning to the start of the level, barring a minor hack or major luck.

Can't you just run jump onto the ledge on the screen to the left?

No.

Actually, since this is the Steam version, you should be able to activate noclip mode, fly yourself to somewhere useful (maybe even the start of the level), then deactivate noclip mode for the remainder of your playthrough.

Go to your game library, right click on Abe's Oddysee and look at its properties. On the General tab, look at the game launch options. Add "-it_is_me_your_father" to the dialogue box, excluding the quotes. Next time you launch the game, hold shift right the way up to the main menu, then let go and load your save game normally. Press tab to toggle noclip mode.

This is where a "restart path" option would be useful. It's unfortunate that AO doesn't have one.

If the problem isn't already sorted, I have another solution. Presumably you have completed the secret area, if so, go back into it and if you're lucky, the falling rocks that are activated after you free the mudokons in that area will kill the three paramites if you lure them under it (they are on the other side of them when you enter I think). This will allow you to collect some meat and return to the temple.

I read the title as "Permanently Suck at Paramonian Temple". I wasn't sure what advice to give.

If you're not bothering with Muds you can always level select your way to it.

I'd tell you the cheat, but I can't remember it. Where's Abeglukkon when we need him?

level select cheat:

hold shift and press these buttons in this order
down, right, left, right, left, right, left, up
trust me when you edit this stuff gets stuck in your head.

I saw this thread title in the last post column of the main menu, so itt didn't display the entire thread title. So all I saw was "Permanently stuck in..."
So I was intrigued.

What I found funny there was the fact that the two paramites are still looking at the wall when you come back out of the portal.

That's because there's still meat on the floor of the secret area. ;P
