SimCity 5
Has officially been announced, even though it's not called Simcity 5 in the trailer. Might mean they are going for a series reboot.
I'd say it looks it cool, but that wasn't actual gameplay. I've only played Simcity Societies(?) and one of the very first ones. I thought Societies was neat.
Also, couldn't this have been posted to Upcoming Game releases? Or at least make this thread about Simcity in general? /backseat mod mode off |

If it's anywhere near as good as 4, I'll be getting it. |

Yeah, how do you reboot something with no story or characters?
This trailers says essentially nothing about the game except that it involves city building. I'll get excited when I know anything about the actual game. |

That was half a joke.
You're right though, unless they're going to change the gameplay drastically there's no real need to 'reboot'. |
Well it has been 8 years since the last decent Simcity game. Might be a PR decision like the HD remakes are for Oddworld.
We're not renaming anything "Abe". Well, I suppose we could, in theory. Actually, I'll try and make that happen.
The whole 'single title reboot' (Twisted Metal, etc...) is a good marketing ploy, but EA/Maxis has lost their footing on it for this one. Especially since I don't give half a turd about the Sim franchise and that trailer got me PUMPED. It should be SimCity:OMEGA or something radical like that.
"Images not representative of actual gameplay" in small print. I'm a bit distrustful of anything related to EA these days... But we'll see what they come up with in terms of a game, I guess.
Well apparently this game is being made by Maxis by mostly the original SC4 team, so there's that. Other than that I'm with you, very rarely does anything good come out of EA's doors.
I loved SimCity 4, so I'll probably give this one a try.
This is a video about the world simulation, not including final graphics. My impression is that they're going to be including resources more strongly than the previous games. But then, I haven't played SimCity since the first one - and, briefly, 2000 - so it's possible they've been doing that all along and I just didn't know.
The resources are new, at least in the way they are implementing them. In the past water and power were unlimited. Now it seems there's actually a limited supply of coal, oil, water and stuff like that. Which should make things interesting and a lot more realistic.
Sounds like they're ripping off Settlers. Might make it worth looking at.
Some people won't be happy about this. For a game where multiplayer isn't mandatory unlike an MMO, it's stupid to always have to be connected to the internet in order to play. Poor excuse for a DRM.
Yeah that's what you get if you're owned by EA...
It actually was ubisoft who started it
But the pirates demonstrated that even that can be bypassed -.- just a waste of money to protect the games with it if pirates can hack em....

Ridiculous. I was considering buying it, but it seems only pirated copies will be playable. Why haven't EA learnt this yet?
Because EA's shareholders refuse to believe that removing DRM will actually have a positive influence on sales. To them it's like saying you'll get more customers by not installing anti theft columns in your physical store, not realizing it's something completely different.
It's very unfortunate that SC5 will be bundled with this bullshit, but depending on how good the final game turns out to be I might give in this one time. I hope they release a demo or something. |
