Whats in Store for Oddworld 2012?

Just wondering for the next things to look forward to that are planned for Oddworld this year, (scheduling month by month if possible)since the release of Strangers Wrath HD last month on PSN.

Stewart Gilray posted this on ps3trophies.org recently on topic of SWHD:

"We're doing a features update in February that will add a few more things ...

1.3DTV support
2.Move support
3.Video capture (XMB or YouTube)
4.Some audio fixes
5.Some more subtitles
Along with some other bits. We'd love to add some more gameplay and perhaps some more Trophies. I got annoyed last week when I was playing it as I noticed some others we could have added like ...

Bounty all outlaws alive in hard
Complete the timed sprint to Sektos office in 60 seconds

We also wanted to re-add some of the stuff that was cut from the original game, but like them, we ran out of time."

However what's next after that? Strangers Wrath HD for PC update March? and MO for PSN Q2? or even Abe HD Q4? However I can't see all that work being done in a year. Any other things I missed out for this year?

Crashpunk 01-07-2012 01:44 AM

All I know is SWHD Steam update, Munch's Oddysee HD and Abe HD is being working on right now. They said that they want to bring back SligStorm and Hand of Odd.

Taco 01-07-2012 01:55 AM

I think MO HD patch is fairly close to completion isnt it? Hopefully they'll release both HD patches around the same time. Besides that I hope to hear more news and details on what Abe HD is going to be all about.

Given that they were working on Stranger pretty solidly until only a few weeks ago, and they're working on getting the bugs out of it now, I doubt they've done more than the early stages of the Munch port.

I agree with you Nate, I'm sure some OWI representive said MO HD was meant for late 2011 now its 2012 Q2.

Hopefully Glitch will be able to give us a general calender of events month by month(2012)...:D

Nate 01-08-2012 04:33 PM

Hopefully they'll remain as ambiguous as possible, so we don't get overexcited and then disappointed.

Munch shouldn't be too much longer.

Taco 01-09-2012 01:50 AM

Exciting!!

On another note, is Hand of Odd coming any time soon (sorry I'm sure this has been discussed already but I did just come back to the forums recently and only know vague details about the game)

Glitch could you elaborate on the schedule planned for 2012?

Wil 01-09-2012 06:23 AM

The schedule goes something like this:
  • Munch's Oddysee HD
  • Err, I dunno, a poster or something?
  • Christmas party

Sekto Springs 01-09-2012 07:01 AM

Am I the only one who finds it a bit asinine that someone of no consequence is asking for a detailed production schedule? JAW has already revealed their prospective goals, many of which are subject to change. You can wait for them to release information on their own terms like the rest of us.

How does one burn something with tea that has already been drunk?

By taking a sip or a few, rather than drinking all of it.

Sekto Springs why is so bad that a fan wishes to know what a franchise has planned next? So that I can be excited for it as well as others. I'm not writting to get an AGM organised this month to find the ins and outs of JAW's balance sheet.

Sekto Springs 01-10-2012 08:21 PM

It isn't bad, but JAW already has every intention on keeping us updated. They post constantly on twitter, facebook, and even here. What they release and when is their prerogative, and to ask for more than that just comes off as kind of pushy and entitled. At least to me.

Na I disagree entirely. JAW and OWI on facebook and twitter are very vague in general. For example the release date or delaying of SW HD was basically a blackout, no information other than 'its soon!'

However OWI and JAW (including abe mudkon and alf) mostly all the time respond to the fans which I think is really cool, even having to answer the same questions like "Where is Abe?" all the time.

I think Glitch's post speaks for itself about my point, thus the reason I was asking for a little more detail on whats ahead.

As they have always been. They already know their fans are clamoring for information. OWI learned the hard way some time ago not to be too explicit with their updates, as things are always changing during production.

Most of the questions they answer have little to nothing to do with the production schedule itself , and they never let slip too much information. As you even pointed out, most of the questions they answer are ones that have already been answered.

I think Glitch's post is just about as vague as everything else they've been saying. And I'm fine with that.

STM 01-14-2012 07:06 AM

The bigger companies don't keep their fans updated with every second of progress and production, why should JAW? They've done enough for us as it is. When they're quiet it means they're probably working too hard to release information to petulant whining fools.

Manco 01-14-2012 07:30 AM

One thing I should say is that JAW could perhaps do well to watch their release dates. I’ve noticed that several times they’ve given a window for a release date months in advance and then completely missed it. For example, Stranger PC was originally going to be Easter 2011, Munch HD was going to be November 2011, and so on.

Of course, that’s always approximations and never official finalized dates, but still. Either they keep running into major problems that force them to extend deadlines, or they aren’t being too strict about their timeframes.

Glitch 01-14-2012 07:32 AM

My post was made as a joke because the guy above it said he wanted us to stay ambiguous.

Comments regarding release schedules and other such things have to be vague when you're a small company; we don't know how long things will take because any little hiccup can change the production timeline.

I would rather be vague and correct than exact and wrong.

MeechMunchie 01-14-2012 07:39 AM

But the (small) problem here is that you're being vague and wrong.

Glitch 01-14-2012 08:29 AM

I'm personally not; any date that's been announced was nothing to do with me :P

How in anyway I'm I whining? Sekto Springs was being facetious and making it sound like I demanded a statment or an official caldener of JAW/OWI. All I was asking was the possibility of whats ahead because I have no idea. So I thought it would be a good idea to try to ask here since this is where I know the people such as Alf and Glitch post on occassionally.

Then again being rushed doesn't help either. Remember when Munch's Oddysee was rushed for the Xbox Launch line-up? It almost derailed the franchise. Then the PS2 version of Stranger's Wrath fell through as well. At least it'll be on PS3 now. I just hope we get more then remakes in the next few years. What's happening with the Social Networking idea they mentioned before?
