Oddworld Soundtracks
now i know that there has been a past thread linking us to a AE/AO soundtrack download link. but is there anything official? in the OWF one isnt it ripped straight from the game? and theres sound effects in the background and you don't get any chase music. you know which one i mean, where your running from a scrab or a slig, and theres those massive beats, but in a slightly different tone depending on where you are, (ex, paramonia os RuptureFarms), and it doesnt have the chase music from scrabanian nests or paramonian nests, is there anywhere i can get both the full soundtracks with all that stuff?
Well if your not pleased enough with the astonishing rip from Killy, you could try to mute the sound effects.
You could try to decode the soundfile(s) with pure silence , encode it back to the original type and record the whole game new now only with the music in the background. |
course i was pleased! it was brill that i finally found a download for the soundtracks! but is there an actual official release just for the chunks that were missed out?
and i'm not one for game mechanics, i have no idea what most of that means, but some people on youtube it seems have the actual soundtrack, any idea where they got it? |
Well there was a package of the Abes Oddysee Soundtrack with sequences of the rendered movies. About youtube, the most files are defently from Killy or there in poor quality cause there recorded by a webcam. Killy wants to rerecord both soundtracks, but I think he missed time as everybody of us. :/
yeah, i have that one of the AO soundtrack, with the FMV sound, why? was there another?
also, Schemilix was his youtube name, he has all of the (What seems to be) actual proper full soundtracks of AE and AO |
Thats the one I was talking about there is no other officially one. Well I don't really get what Schemilix rip mades better than Killys. Had to listen to it at home. :/
but it seems no one has the chase music! theres the tension, and slig action, but no trying to escape inevitable death, you know, running around with a couple of paramites chasing you or something, the sound differs depending on what area your in, but the general beat is the same, its gotta be out there somewhere!
Well if its so I will see how we could this handle. I'm a fan of edited, ripped video game music too. See for example the youtube channel thediggamesounftrack. ;)
I remember messing with the sound effects file before, and it turns out a lot of the background music is actually constructed from the sound effects at different speeds. So getting 'just' the music would be nigh-on impossible without removing half of it.
Hmm it seems to me that every second and less of this file has to be checked mannualy if they are only sound effects and this one has to be muted.
Maybe someone is so good in his programming skills that he could find every snippet of the whole file and maybe replace them with another soundfile. :) |
that seems like something Paul could do
If I knew how to open a .wave file and edit this inside, I could try that too. :)
Well first step would be to just go to the Abe directory, open the sounds.dat file and just overwrite it with silence. Then play the game and see what you get.
I was More talking about the "programming way" ;)
:
that seems like a bad idea... |
Well, for you maybe. No offense, but most people can edit a sound file without breaking it.
sorry for not being a computer genius
Apology accepted. Just don't let it happen again.
very funny, now onto the topic? has anyone found just that chase music? or even the full track for scrabanian and paramonian nests?
Well only that you've ask a few hours ago, it will need much time to find or even makethose titles. So just be patient. :)
i will be! i love the scrabanian nest soundtrack, where everytime you see a new scrab the music starts again, that massive mechanicle THUD!
On a vaguely related note, I have just tried playing AE with a heavily quietened sound file, and I can confirm that EVERY SINGLE NOISE APART FROM FMVS AND SCREEN TRANSITIONS comes from that file, confirming OddHunter's suspicions from another thread.
yeah, thats why when i removed the file, i had no sound at all
The chase music is put together by the game semi-dynamically, much like the Mountain Beats from Rayman 1. The low pulses will be somewhere in the Sounds.dat, as will the drum fills but they won't form a coherent song.
so no chance of getting them then
Short of recording them yourself from gameplay or learning how to mix music together I I would think not.
Ok, now you can feel the power of mother Russia :)

Nice found, but as the maker of the videos described himself, the quality is not really great.
feel free to find something better then)
theres no download link!
