I've been watching the original dragon ball again, uncut. Oh, lord toriyama is a perverted bastard. It's amazing they could even censor it to the point of watchability for kids. lol

Japan has a far far higher tolerance to exposing kids to that sort of stuff than the west and especially the US has.

Also obligatory Dragonball is overrated garbage post.

To be fair, Dragonball itself is harmless fun, and as retarded as Z was, I still loved the Cell saga as a kid and thought the plot twist was genuinely clever. I just can't really stand any shonen except Gintama these days.

Of course not, it was glorified fan fiction. And modern shonen can't even compare to the likes of DB and Yu Yu Hakusho...bleach is the most boring and contrived anime I've seen in ages.

Oh shit, Dragonball. I remember only watching the whole Z series. Back then me and my friends used to watch every episode. I also remember how they made the episodes really boring if there was a fight going on.

"WHAT WILL GOKU DO NEXT?! FIND OUT IN THE NEXT EPISODE" "DID GOKU DIE?!?!?!?! FIND OUT IN THE NEXT EPISODE, HURR DURR!"

I love the overly excited narrator, except the "z warriors" thing. They were never identified as such! Ever! that just bugs me, lol

I myself generally prefer shoujo (very specifically mahou shoujo) and seinen. The only shonen I've ever liked is Death Note, Gurren Lagann, G Gundam and the One Piece manga when Oda isn't attempting to be a social commentator with the subtlety of a chiseled anvil.

If you think all modern shonen is bad, by the way, I suggest you give Gintama a try. You can see if it's your kind of thing or not through a quick look-see on TVTropes and all the episodes should be freely available to watch on that Crunchyroll site. Which I wouldn't know about because I have two and a half hdds full of stolen animation from glorious nippon.

I love gundam pre-seed. The original, zeta, 08th ms team, war in the pocket...Old gundam was amazing. seed and SD...God, it's torture. death note's first season was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the second, and after a certain main dies...it became pretty boring. But, good altogether. And Oda is fun, but yeah, he lacks ANY subtlety, whatsoever. I always loved Dragon ball for the characters and how it doesnt take itself seriously.

I like you more now.

Though, (not seeing Seed/Destiny) I consider the original to be the worst. It's very boring until Char reappears to fuck up everyone's shit in his Z'gok and even Ramba 'This is no Zaku boy, no Zaku!' Rahl couldn't save it. 08th MS and particularly 0080 were incredible though, along with X, G and the first season of 00.
Agreed. One of those rare things where I prefer an adaption to the original. The movies may have been stupid and a little cheesy but the ending was a miiiiiiillion times more satisfying.

Nice, even nicer to see youre obviously a Miyazaki fan-mononoke and totoro were my first extraordinary pieces of anime I had seen.
My favorite anime series is, as derivitive as this sounds, cowboy Bebop, followed closely by Evangelion. Bebop, in fact, has my favorite ending of an anime series.

A year ago I'd have said Miyazaki was my favourite Japanese director, nowdays he has very tough competition from Ikuhara and Shinbo, because Mawaru Penguindrum and Madoka are two of the most enchanting series I've seen in years.

Also I've never seen Bebop, I plan to but I'm not really a huge fan of 90s anime.

yes, it is overrated, but still worthy of praise. And yes, EoE...mmmmm. Ive always enjoyed Oshii's work, Ghost in the Shell, Jin Roh, good stuff. but the late Satoshi Kon...wow. Paranoia Agent left me breathless, as did Millenium Actress.

I mean to say, and not to sound pompous, but an actual discussion about anime generally happens because I voice an opinion in reaction to someone else. Strike Witch doesn't actually give a fuck about what anybody thinks except her so I'm pretty much the only consistently posting anime fan you can actually discuss things with.

We haven't had an actual conversation since anime (An ACTUAL conversation, not people getting pantsu in a twist because of a video or image posted or me correcting someone's bullshit) since the guy last year that OANST dug into for being a lolicon, and before that was... an unfortunate thread we won't mention.

So yeah, an anime thread would be entirely useless, it would consist of those eight or so posts just now, I wouldn't post in it again because I like discussing with people rather than informing people and Strike Witch would post something provocative if she was in an idiot mood.

So yeah.

First episode. I was saving the second and third until the fourth was released. Now it's released I'm going to watch them all back to back after this essay.

I love how people post paragraphs and paragraphs about anime, and then write single-line posts about ponies.

It's for preschoolers, guys. Say what you will about anime, Adventure Time, and Pokeydams, but MLP is literally for 4 year old girls. I didn't even realize this until recently, when I noticed it was on Treehouse TV (baby channel) and not YTV (Canada's Nickelodeon) or Teletoon (CN). It's literally for teaching super-little kids the basic tenements of society. This obession is one of the saddest moments in human history, and you are all worse people for it each and every time you acknowledge taking part. You make dead mothers weep and Hitler's skeleton shake with otherworldly laughter at your folly. There are so many better ways of wasting your time. Stop being disappointments. Stop caring about ponies. Join me, brothers, and just find something else already.

I watched Summer Wars again recently because it's still amazing. Gonna remind everyone to buy it...now. Buy it.
