Saints Row: The Third

Along with some other games that are sucky and for babies, Saints Row 3 came out last night. I was lucky enough to attend a midnight release, lining up with the worst people in Belleville and some of my friends to get it. Among the cheeto-mumblings was talk of Assinass Creed: Bonerhood head 2 head, some dude with the beard of beards expounding on Oblivion for 20 minutes, and the loud, echoing horkings of a pretty girl spitting about 3 metres in front of her while hacking up lung and dragging on cigarettes. My kind of crowd.

Anyway, after that frightmare my friends and I took our golden cow of a game, indeed our sigil of a bright and violent future ahead home and waited half an hour while it installed on the PS3.

It's insatiably fun. I'm not posting any videos because the vast majority of you are shrieking man-women who would cower at anything that isn't lightning-excreting hands or Hat wearing men. Or maybe I don't think any of them do it justice. Or maybe I'm lazy. All viable possibilities.

It's a little slow at first, we spent about 30 minutes getting all of our shit together in the opening missions, but after that the world really opens up. I was pumped to do the first Professor Genki mission, which is a shoot 'em up mode where you have to fight men in beer bottle outfits and furries. It was fun, but the real joy comes form running around.

L2 functions as an 'awesome button'. If you hold it while walking, you sprint. If you hold it while jumping, you do this wicked sweet front flip thing that doesn't actually make sense. You also start out with about a billion different ways to face plant civillians and look stylin' while doing it.

So to answer your questions, yes, Daxter King, you should get it. It's GOTYAY until I find something else to get excited and weird about.

Daxter King 11-15-2011 06:01 AM

You went and broke my heart by getting it on PS3, eliminating the possibility of a Steelport brought to its knees(sexually) by the two of us in co-op.

Mac Sirloin 11-15-2011 06:18 AM

What? I'm unemployed. I'm selling shit to buy it later today, for SEXBOX GIVES YOU 360 INCH DICKS. I have never spoken about owning or eating a PS3 in my life. My friend bought it.

JennyGenesis 11-15-2011 06:56 AM

As excited as I am to play this game, I'm waiting until christmas, the bugginess of the first two games has given me enough patience to wait for jolly ole santa.

Mac Sirloin 11-15-2011 07:03 AM

Not a bad idea. Each and every time I got on a motorcycle and ran into a wall (frequently, not a comment on the cycles, a comment on my poor grasp of them) I always slammed into a wall and ended up...lodged in it for second before being respawned on the ground. And by 'lodged' I mean 'twitching and writhing as my head clipped in and out, stretching the neck to uncomfortable shapes.'

JennyGenesis 11-15-2011 07:11 AM

In Saints Row 2 I did a wheelie on a bike, or attempted to, I leant back to far and came off the bike but I ended up falling through the world!

Havoc 11-15-2011 07:25 AM

I still need to complete Saints Row 2, damnit. Too many good games to complete.

Mac Sirloin 11-15-2011 10:45 AM

My game froze after I tried selecting a side mission. It just stopped. I'd been playing for 3 hours of so at this point, though. I probably just need to update my 360.

The Adult Swim radio station is great when it's actually playing stuff from Adult Swim and not buttrock or buttrap, which there is a LOT of. I think there's 3 different rap stations this time. Seriously.

Dynamithix 11-16-2011 01:29 AM

Does the game have more clothes than the initiation station demo of the game? If not then I miss SR2's style of clothing.

I might get this for Christmas. I had Saints Row 2 for a few weeks (until my Xbox somehow put a perfectly circular scratch in it: the game no longer works) and I found it fun. It didn't try to be realistic, which was what I liked about it and why it didn't fail like GTA IV.

Were you standing your 360 upright? Because that's a no-no.

Mac Sirloin 11-16-2011 02:56 PM

My 360 inexplicably did the exact same thing to my copy of Do Sex. I got it fixed, but it was lying horizontally at the time. Explain that with your Xbox science.

Havoc 11-16-2011 03:00 PM

Do Sex?

Oh Deus Ex. HA! I got it! I got your joke!

JennyGenesis 11-16-2011 03:06 PM

My Xbox only ever wrecked one of my discs and it was Full Auto,

But the way it went about it was weird, there was a certain track where there was a fork in the road, going to the left the game went fine, but if you went to the right the message would always appear telling me the disc is unreadable, this was of course before the days of installing games to the hard drive.

One day in an Xbox Live race, this particular track comes up, I get to the fork, and I tried to go to the left but some idiot rammed my car and I ended up going to the right, then, disc is unreadable...

So I had to quit the race and reset the game all because I drove on a certain part of the track...

To the people whose Xboxes do the ring shit, your Xbox is fucked, I think. Some of the older drives do that, horizontal or vertical. Horizontal or vertical doesn't really matter if it does it and as long as you dont move it around while it is running games. The only game my Xbox has fucked up is Halo 3, not sure why, since Gears of War should be the one fucked up. I moved it around all the time when it was running and even dropped it on occasion.

Mac Sirloin 11-16-2011 10:43 PM

In defense of my inanimate object I was in the process of knocking it off of my shelf like a baboon shortly before removing the disk and noting the ring. Totally unrelated though, I'm sure.

Manco 11-17-2011 10:47 AM

I’m one of the lucky few who’ve never had their 360 chew a disc up or break. I’ve had it about four years now, and the only red ring I saw was when I once kicked the power brick so the plug came halfway out.

e: I’m also kind of looking forward to SR3, but since I’ve barely even started SR2 it’s not top of my priority list.

Mac Sirloin 11-17-2011 12:47 PM

It desperately needs to be patched (it might've already been, my 360's not hooked up online ATM). I've been stuck on endless loading screens a few times now and once in awhile, no matter how many times I press the 'y' button I won't be able to start an activity. (more like the WHY? button)

It's still insatiably fun. I was given the option to blow up one of the tallest buildings in the game for a big respect bonus but went with keeping it since the cash bonus is more valuable.

Anyone who thought the Escort mode in Saints Row 2 was boring will appreciate how they've tweaked it.

Daxter King 12-10-2011 10:53 PM

I picked this up today, probably gonna start playing tomorrow. Mac, whats yo gamertag?

Crashpunk 12-11-2011 03:57 AM

I've be meaning to play this, It looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Daxter King 12-28-2011 10:41 PM

Playing this the most of my new games, really fun. Honestly surprised at the amount of RPG elements in it, I love them though. Some of the side stuff isnt as fun as I'd like. For instance, I fucking hate having to drive people around and do deals. Whatever that is called. Not fun at all.

I want to mention this game has some of the best cinematography in its cut scenes I've seen in a while.

Crashpunk 01-02-2012 03:10 AM

Even Saints Row Wants to Know Where Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Is…

Mac Sirloin 01-05-2012 08:39 AM

It warmed my heart to see the Axiom and Heart of Gold on there too.

Daxter King 01-05-2012 01:09 PM

I was thinking about getting the season pass, but the first DLC for it is just activities. I know it isn't likely, but I would love a episodes of GTA4 style expansion for this game, the story missions are so amazing.

Mac Sirloin 01-05-2012 01:22 PM

I was looking forward to resurrected Gat, dammit. Does it add new guns or anything?

Daxter King 01-05-2012 01:31 PM

Not much is known from it, but the achievements leaked and you can pretty much tell it just adds a bunch of activities. I inclined to say no though, since they have all those other weapon and costume packs they want you to buy.

hedjeroo 01-07-2012 12:59 PM

I wish every day was Tiger Passenger Day.

I completed my first playthrough of this a while back. Seemed kinda short compared to SR2, and I gotta say I didn't find it quite as fun, but it was still very awesome. I do kinda miss some of the stuff that didn't make it back into my two favourite stores (Leather & Lace and Let's Pretend), but eh, I can deal, they gave me three different ways to wear whopping great headphones.

I have the game on Steam if anyone wants to come smash shit up with Kitty some time:
