Legend of Zelda!
I've been playing so much Ocarina of Time recently and I'm in such a Zelda mood, I've spammed the What have you been playing thread. So I decided to make a thread dedicated to Zelda.
Right, I'll start. Who likes the Zelda series here? and What do you guys think of the new game Skyward Sword? I'm personally very existed to play it. |
I only have one LoZ game, and that's Spirit Tracks. It's alright, but I haven't played it in months. I've tried out Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. Both seem pretty good.
|
I never once finished a zelda game. But they are fun enough.
But I only played the GB(A)/NDS versions. |
Twilight Princess is by far my favorite Zelda game. I love its story and Artstyle. :)
|
I love Zelda. There aren't many of the games in the series I've played and haven't enjoyed, except the first game and Twilight Princess. Twilight Princess is too gritty and dark for my liking. To me, it didn't have the magic that the other games are brilliant for. However, I'm not denying it's a terrible game, I enjoyed some parts, but it wasn't 'Zelda-y' enough for me.
My favourite is Ocarina of Time. By god it has aged well, it's still loads of fun to play and still brings me a challenge whenever I replay it. |
Thats funny, my two favorite Zelda games are your most disliked :(
I have yet to play Wind Waker, The DS games and Majora's Mask. |
Fucking love Zelda; super pumped for Skyward sword.
Although I wasn't the biggest fan of Twilight Princess, I feel this is their true chance of redemption for that boring piece of rehashed crap. Majora's Mask is the best Zelda game, followed by Ocarina then Wind Waker. All are fantastic. Haven't played much of the 2D ones, but I did get relatively far in A Link to the Past before getting bored. |
Playing OoT on 3DS, whilst my housemate simultaneously plays it on the N64. It's years since I completed it on N64, so I've forgotten most things about the game, which is just like experiencing it all over again.
Once we're both finished, the plan is to complete Wind Waker and then Skyward Sword :D |
I think it's my brother's favourite series and I've helped him through quite a few puzzles, imo the all time best game of the whole series is the Wind Waker. I think the story continuity is pants though.
|
I love Zelda-Majora's Mask and Windwaker are my favorites. I love the whole damn franchise, except the CDi zeldas...IM SO HUNGRY I COULD EAT AH OCTOROK!...*throws up in my mouth a little*
|
I played Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess - While enjoying Twilight Princess enough to want to replay it immediately after completing it. It wasn't the best game I've ever played by a long way, but there aren't many games that made me want to do that.
Wind Waker had OOT on its disk. It was one of the games I unfortunately skipped, back when the N64 was new - After playing WW and TP, I found I couldn't play OOT because it felt far too inferior to it's sequels, even though it did look very good for its time. :( Maybe I should have played it back in the day. It's not like I didn't have the chance too. I think I've said this before somewhere here. |
To each their own, though I agree the sequels are much improved. OOT is still the closest thing I've seen to perfect in gaming...(The new batman's have a shot, but I'm biased as a fan of ol' bats.)
|
My sister had the same problem with TP and OOT. She played TP first and thinks OOT looks like shit. It's such a shame. I think it's a rare trait for someone to disregard the limitations of old games and appreciate them for what they are instead of what they could be.
|
I hate people who do that...I tried to get a friend to play ff vii cuz he liked crisis core and advent children and he refused because in his words;"It looks like shit, what were they thinking?"...PS1 ERA, DIPSHIT. ugh...
|
Ocarina of Time is the most charming game of the series, and that's what it has going for it.

I don't blame people who shun older games for their graphics, it's their personal preference, but sometimes I think the game could be really enjoyable for them if they ignore how bad it may look. Final Fantasy VII to me looks far better than the newer Final Fantasy games. But that's because I'm a lover of pre-rendered graphics. |
Eh, I liked everything but Dirge of Cerberus. btw, anyone here like Link's Awakeng? I always liked it more than ALttP. Oh, and on a side note, ff VIII is still gorgeous.
|
Link's Awakening I always felt a little weird, it was perfectly playable but the world itself was just so odd.
ALMOST LIKE A DREAM WORLD DERP But hey, at least I didn't die a hundred fucking times in every single fucking dungeon in the fucking shadow fucking world fuck. FUCKING ICE PALACE |
lol it's always the damned water/ice themed dungeons that suck total balls.
|
:
I played a good 2/3 hours into OOT - It wasn't the graphics that put me off, I just wanted more of what TP and WW were giving me directly after playing them, but OOT, while similar, couldn't give me that. Maybe I should have left it for a bit and tried again. :

I went to GameCity6 in Nottingham today and they had a Zelda takeover. It was brillent. They had Wiis set up with Zelda 1, Zelda 2, OoT, MM and I think Wind Waker. People were all dressed up as Link and Zelda, A sword fighting event with Zelda sound effects. We even got Free Ocarinas!

That is awesome. And of course Breath of Fire looked better-it was a sprite based game from a developer that had mastered 2D sprites. Whereas FF VII was Square's first foray into 3D. Though, it couldnt make up it's mind whether they where chibi in cutscenes orfully featured. >_<
...I want an Ocarina. |
I never played or looked into Twilight Princess all that much, but it seemed like it might've been an interesting game to play if I could get it (saving up for a capture card with $3.00 allowance a week will take a while.) Wind Waker was the second game I ever played in my life, Super Mario 64 was first for me at the age of 3, and it just gives me this great sense of nostalgia whenever I come back to play the game again. When I got OoT from the Wil Shop Channel, though, I realized what I had been missing out on! Wind Waker hardly has the feeling that OoT and MM had to offer, (only 1 goron and zora in the game, come on!) and to me, it just seemed better to walk around some memorable fields throughout the game than to sail around the same, old sea with some music playing that gets old pretty quickly. I can't decide between the two, but I'd have to say that I loved the Zelda 64 games the most out of all of the games in the series despite their graphics; Mario still overtakes Zelda in my list of favorite games because of the classics!
|
The lack of races makes sense, given that they were drowned by said repetitive sea. lol But yes, I see your point. I prefer the fields of Hyrule and Termina as well.
|
Termina Field is best field.
Because:
|
Except for those goddamn birds that steal your rupees...little bastards. Plus, best sidequests in the whole series. In fact, theyre the best part of the game.
|
face humping re-deads. Nuff said.
|
You mean Anju and Kafei?
Most people hate that sidequest, but I love it. |
So did I, I thought it was adorable and really made you work for that quest. MM had more heart than any other Zelda I've played. Which is most, havnt played the new DS ones, and my wii's broken, so no Skyward Sword for me. T_T
|
I can't speak for Spirit Tracks, but Phantom Hourglass was frustrating as hell and didn't have any good plot by the point I gave up.
Not to say it wasn't charming, because it was. It was just pretty irritating. I may be dusting off my Wii for the first time since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn to play Skyward Sword. |
