Abe's Oddysee PSX TAS

You might remember a while back that I posted a 100% TAS of the PSX Version of AO, a new TAS has just been released this time with the focus on beating the game as quickly as possible. It's still impressive!

SgabbitGabbiar 10-24-2011 04:40 AM

omfg ! it's the best game player of the world ! xD

PS: but TAS is a program for the emulators that can do this ?

Glitch 10-24-2011 06:57 AM

Very impressive. It's a testament to Oddworld that people are still doing speed runs of it's games.

Wil 10-24-2011 07:31 AM

I too enjoy getting Abe's Oddysee over and done with as quickly as possible.

Crashpunk 10-24-2011 07:31 AM

That is very impressive indeed. I love the tricks he pulled off. The timing was perfect.

Nath 10-24-2011 08:31 AM

I'm still in Escape from Rupture Farms after 40 minute (and that's me speed running it)

Wil 10-24-2011 08:32 AM

It's a TAS, you can pretend all those times you died you didn't die.

jumper 10-24-2011 09:41 AM

Eugh, I feel the compulsion to actually tell everyone what a TAS actually is >_>

Crashpunk 10-24-2011 11:44 AM

Tool Assisted Speedrun.

DarkHoodness 10-24-2011 12:08 PM

I want to see one where they save 99 Mudokons. Doesn't doing it with tools sort of defeat the purpose anyway?

You helped him?

I’m so sorry

It's great entertainment,

Can you imagine do that flawlessly without tools?

DarkHoodness 10-24-2011 01:11 PM

There are speedruns out there that are done without tools - Which is much more of a testament to skill than those that use them. This is one example, as far as I'm aware.

JennyGenesis 10-25-2011 01:37 AM

It's just an entertainment thing,

Tool assisted runs are just more entertaining to watch because you can see some people pill off some really crazy things.

Mudokon_Master 10-25-2011 01:42 AM

Sounds good to me.

jumper 10-25-2011 04:23 AM

TAS's are meant for entertainment purposes, not to show skill. It's not the equivalent of a person playing the game, and then if they mess up, doing something again. The game is normally played using thousands of save-states and often played frame-by-frame to make everything perfect.

JennyGenesis 10-25-2011 04:45 AM

If you watch that video, a rerecord count is displayed,

I really do not have the patience to do a TAS.

STM 10-28-2011 02:28 PM

Maaan, but that guy cheated. I do not approve.

Fuck's sake.

jumper 10-29-2011 01:01 AM

I don't understand...

Phylum 10-29-2011 01:07 AM

I'm making it perfectly clear to him that if he'd read the thread he'd know it's a TAS.

STM 10-30-2011 04:02 AM

I don't know what a TAS is.

JennyGenesis 10-30-2011 04:10 AM

Tool assisted speedrun.

Which means he used save states and played the game at a very low frame rate to achieve what you saw.

Crashpunk 10-30-2011 10:18 AM

How do you make a save state on Oddysee! I've wanted to do that for ages!

JennyGenesis 10-30-2011 10:28 AM

Save States on the emulator.

Crashpunk 11-09-2011 01:11 PM

I can never get the ePSXe emulator to work. I have no idea what to do with the Plug-ins.

JennyGenesis 11-09-2011 01:16 PM

A simple Google search will find you a .rar file with ePSXe all configured with the plugins,

Or just use pSX which I found to be a much better emulator.

Phylum 11-09-2011 11:32 PM

We should stop talking about emulators. I think there's a rule about it.

Do you mean PCSX, Jenny?

JennyGenesis 11-10-2011 12:10 AM

Ummm, whats wrong with talking about emulators?

The TAS was clearly performed on one,

Anyway, this is the emulator I was on about, not PCSX
