Flying beasties

Some dragon pictures I've drawn rescently. Basically my pencil skills are limited to technical drawing. This is my try to draw something other than blueprints and schemes. Hoch-Spannung is my gallery nickname. The colouring was added in photoshop.

Looks good. Really nice textures on the scales. Were they done in photoshop as well?

The scales themselves are hand-drawn and the highlights were added in photoshop.

If it wasn't photo shopped i'd probably shoot myself but for now I may just spew a bit!

What? Are you being insulting or admiring?

But also, great drawings! Although the face of the dragon looks like some sort of mutant cat in the close up image.

Mudokon_Master 10-22-2011 11:32 PM

VF is just being a dickhead as usual :/
The drawing are great dude, keep it up!

StrangerEastwood 10-22-2011 11:50 PM

Excellent work. I love the sort of feline face for it. Good job. ;)

Crashpunk 10-23-2011 01:24 PM

I don't really like Dragon art but the detail is pretty good :) Nice job with that.

Oddey 10-23-2011 09:51 PM

Call me far too unadventurous, but I don't much like the way the dragon's face looks. I'm pretty sure it's just me who only likes the more traditonal western view of dragons. Still, that aside, it is impressive. Far better than anything I have, can, or will ever draw.

Mudokon_Master 10-23-2011 10:43 PM

I'm not too sure about the 'catface' either. It's certainly interesting but I don't think it looks right as opposed to the traditional western dragon style.

Admiral Zaarin 10-24-2011 03:42 AM

Thank you for your comments. I'll try to draw more if you like (and if I have spare time:)). As for dragon's feline snout - it's based on Smaug design from some old animation. In fact I've never seen that movie, just googled "Smaug" and found some screencaps and drawings with such a design. It looked rather interesting as opposed to conventional european-style snouts.

StrangerEastwood 10-24-2011 07:45 AM

Ah, from the Rankin Bass version of The Hobbit. I was wondering why you named it Smaug, lol

Next time I'll try to draw something else other than this dragon.

Hulaabeo 11-09-2011 12:55 PM

Did you use an asian dragon as insperation for Smaug's face?

Crashpunk 11-09-2011 01:17 PM

Smaug is such a odd name.

Hulaabeo 11-09-2011 03:49 PM

Have you ever read heard of J.R.R Tolkien's "The Hobbit"?

As Stranger has mentioned this is Rankin Bass studio's design (I googled "smaug" and found some stills from their animation). Original Rankin Bass' Smaug is pretty fat so I made my Smaug somewhat more slender. Also I added a tassel on his tail-tip so his tail doesn't look like one of a rat. Smaug's vibrissae, beard and back-hides really resemble a chineese dragon but this wasn't the original intention.

Here's dragon's snout closeup:

A wolf I've drawn as a means of photoshop training:

Hello,

I haven't been here for a while. I'm somewhat out of inspiration oddworld-wise (and generally lost interest in computer games and related stuff) so my Oddysee mod is on the hold (maybe I'll make some more when I have time and Oddworld nostalgia). Though I still make some non-oddworld drawings:

Sea Serpent by ~Hoch-Spannung on deviantART
It's a sea serpent I saw in a movie "The Lost Kingdom" several years ago (As I remember It had something to do with Xena and distorted greek mythology or something like that). I wanted to draw a sea serpent but couldn't think of an appropriate and not too used design. So I drew this.

It's nice to see Smaug drawn the way he looks in the cartoon. He had a really good design.

I'm glad you like my drawings. Frankly speaking they're very amateurish but I'm trying to learn from conceptart.org forums. Drawing is just a hobby for me and I don't spend much time on it but I'm trying enhance my skill. As for Smaug - actually, I haven't seen the cartoon itself - just stills I found via google and liked. Now I feel like drawing something serious. I'm reading Ernst Junger "In Stahlgewittern" so most likely I'll draw WW-I trench war scene.
