So, is Citizen Siege dead?
Well, more so than most other projects by OWI. Basically, any word if Lorne plans to carry on development now that things are picking up with JAW?
|
Citizen what?
Oh, that thing. I'm pretty sure that was just a pipe dream floundering around in production hell until Lorne decided to actually go back to Oddworld. I don't recall JAW mentioning CS on their upcoming projects docket, but who knows. |
The ideas they came up with for CS could easily be re-used for Oddworld anyway by the sounds of things.
But I guess we'll have to hear from Lorne himself about that. Maybe Nate (was it Nate?) should've asked him in his interview. |
Whenever we get to see that bloody spectral interview that is.
I think CS is long dead. Hell it was never really alive was it? |
To be very honest I never really cared about CS. However If any more news comes out for it i'll be intrested.

The concept art for Citizen Siege always intrigued me...
|
The Orwellian story that was froming greatly entertained my imagination, we have yet to see a good dystopian game, *ignores Deus Ex*

I think he meant that the core themes could be repackaged for Oddworld should Lorne feel they were too significant to remain untold. I think many of the major themes demonstrated in Oddworld - with a little tweaking - could be just as significant in an entirely human universe. Certainly wouldn't be nearly as original though.
|
Well, I was intrigued-always nice to see creators leave their comfort zones in gaming. But I figured it would just dissappear. But hey, at least OWI is doing something now. Though Ive never played Gravity crash, so I have no real concept of JAW's handiwork. Heres to hoping they salvage something from that concept. And the concept of a third world factory worker escaping from the evil corporation would be very original in this industry-unless said factory worker was a space marine.-_-

Nope.avi

Or have read anything about it.
|
Valve constantly mentions the Orwellian influences...It's already been said, but again, to all who hav'nt: PLAY HALF LIFE 2. or any Valve game, really.
|
It shoves the dystopia in your face from the train onwards. It's hard to descrbe it as anything else.
|
Four words: Pick up the can.
|
Actually, am I the only one who thought of HL2 when first reading about Citizen Siege?
Oh and here, STM. Watch at least the first part of this (skip to 0:23): |

Your loss.

Well, I would if my computer could run them.

360, ps3? the orange box is on those.

Everything I've seen of the Citizen Siege concepts and documents makes me very interested in looking at exploring it's universe in the future.
I have to say that as a game designer it may be a little while until I actually get to design a game from scratch; there's so many deeply explored concepts sitting around that I may be busy for quite some time. |
I certainly hope you guys can someday-it certainly seemed a novel concept. I always did love books like 1984 and Brave New World.
|
Agreed, Oddworld is arguably designed specifically to show oppression, corruption, bureaucracy and dystopia, it would be a crime not to use it to its full extent for those purposes.
|
"makes me very interesting is looking at"
Ugh... it was a long day yesterday. |
lol I could tell. Decided not to bash ya for it, we all have those "wtf was that?" moments.
|
It probably pays not to point out Glitch's mistakes. You might end up with 'StrangerEastwood stinks' carved into a cliff texture.
