Munch's Oddysee Speedruning
I'm new to this website, in fact, I just became a member today, but I couldn't find any other threads about this, so I hope that there's nothing with this thread.
A few weeks ago, I discovered this game-breaking glitch in Munch's Oddysee, by accident of course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=263b_T0AZa4 With this trick, it allows Abe, Munch, or anything that Abe can hold, including Munch, to go through ANY wall in the game as long as a "boing" noise is made from some type of collision with it. All that must be done is to pause right when the "boing" sound is going to be made, you can use pause buffering like in this video to make it simpler, and if you actually hear the noise in the pause menu, then quicksave the file that you're playing on and quickload that quicksave as soon as you can right after that. You should be able to get through the wall that you decided to collide with everytime, but it depends a little bit on luck for how quickly and simply the trick can be executed in each case, which you can also see within the video. Since I am the founder of this glitch, I decided to call it the Boing-Elimination Glitch (BEG) to go with how I understand as to how it works. I've already shown this trick on a few other websites, but the people there didn't really pay that much mind to this, so I hope that at least everyone who might be interested in making a speedrun of this game takes a look at this thread to make it easier on themselves. |
1. did you make the video
2. if you didnt have you tested this ? the reason im asking is because you said you are the founder of this glitch but are you talking about making the movie of finding it on youtube ? |
Well, whenever I hear that someone's the founder of something, I always think that it means the discoveror of whatever something is talking about, so that might be a fault at my part. Actually, I discovered the glitch first, and then I made a video of the trick once I couldn't find it anywhere else, so I creditted myself as the founder of the glitch by establishing proof that I found it first by creating a video of it before anyone else did. Which, yes, that means that I'm COEL625 on Youtube if you want to be absolutely positive with what I explained above.

Hi COEL625 :) welcome to the forums
oh and by the way we all kinda hate munch's oddysee lol. |
I love MO except for the parts where you have to play as Munch on land...

True it was no where near as good as the other oddworld games
|
Very interesting bug you've found there. Looks like the collision detection doesn't kick in soon enough. Hopefully we'll be able to iron that out in Munch HD. (or would you rather we left it in)
|
Before you make a speedrun, Get a capture device like a Dazzle. Nobody will watch it if its been recorded off a video camera.
Also nice glitch :) |
When you say "nice glitch"...

Yeah, I think that I felt so much hatred for this game compared to the PS2 beta version, that I decided to find some way to break this game and make it look even more ridiculous than before. Most of the times, when you get through a wall, the game will just say that you died, so I'd only want to keep this trick in the HD version if there was some awesome secret involved with it!! By the way, I never said that I was going to do the speedrun, this game just becomes too dull at some points, I was showing this trick to inspire other people into making a speedrun and possibly finding other glitches to manipulate in this game.
By the way, is there some way that I can change the title of this thread because I think that I want to show some of the stuff that I've found in Stranger's Wrath too! |

By the way, I also found some miscellaneous glitches in this game from a few weeks ago, so I'll put a link to the video that I made that shows off all of those tricks; by the way, I was trying to pause the game and press B at the same moment to make the game do this strange freezing that only lasts for a few seconds on the video, but I failed twice in a row, so just ignore that part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT-OpieCYB4 If you are interested in any of the tricks shown in the video, it describes them all very well in the description of the video, so be sure to look at that if you want to try to find more glitches in this game! |
First of all, Welcome to the Forums Bodd. I hope you become a positive contribution to the community we have here:)
And secondly, well done for being the founder of these glitches. I'm quite sure JAW will take them into consideration in the HD remake. As Nate said, make a new thread for the SW glitches (if you haven't already) so that they can be resolved in HD Stranger too:) |
That's a really nice bug-finding here, I'm impressed :)
|
Hmm. This thread is getting a little old now. Do you guys think that I should start an attempt at speedrunning this game in the near the future, or should I just leave this post as it is until I actually get a capture card? (up to $30.00 now; I'm getting there)
|
Get a Capture card. your speedrun will be watchable then :)
|
I've decided that I'm no longer going to make a speedrun of this game, but if there's anyone here that wants to do it, then I could make a speedrunning route in this game if anyone's interested.
:? |
Well, I probably should've guessed that this no one would want to speedrun this game.
Well, I guess I can put the speedrun video that I recently made into the rightful thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO9GH0Zj0CY Oh yeah, I almost forgot to say, it turns out that you don't have to hear the boing noise on the pause menu to go through walls, you just have to be touching a wall when you pause the game, but I don't recommend doing that for Munch. :? |
