Every single time I try to upload a avatar it always takes ages trying to get the file down to 20.0 KB

I was wondering if its possible to increase the file size for avatars?

Why not just host it on imageshack or photobucket? Also 20KB is 20,000 bytes so that number rounded; your image is probably less than 50 bytes over.

EDIT: WTF!? How do you have a 100 * 100 pixel image that exceeds 20KB?

I remember reading somewhere that .gif's aren't allowed, but why's that? Just asking if there's a specific reason for that.

Animated gifs certainly aren't allowed.

Yes, but why? A lot of other forums I visit/used to visit allowed you to use gifs.

I did, but it took the piss to get it right.

Also I to dislike animated avatars, i'm glad we don't have them

Much as I’d like to see larger avatars being allowed, I’ll say that 20KB is more than enough for the moment, and is stupidly easy to get under. Use Photoshop’s Save for Web and devices dialog option to reduce the file size.

For reference, I use a forum that only allows 12KB for 128 by 128 avatars. Now that’s hellish.

I don't think he wanted it as his avatar, I thought it was a reason that gifs weren't allowed.
