Constant Mediocrity or occasional brilliance?

If you were forced to choose between a book/film/album/game which was consistantly mediocre and something that was mostly a bit...'bad' but had some absolutely brilliant chapters/songs/moments/levels etc in it.

Which would you choose?

Havoc 08-14-2011 03:18 PM

Some brilliance is better than no brilliance, obviously. Why? You want to write a story and you're wondering how much effort you should put into it?

Laser 08-14-2011 03:20 PM

No not at all. Just a sort of vaguely profound thing I was thinking about in the shower, if you must know ;)

Bullet Magnet 08-14-2011 03:21 PM

My lexicon designates "mediocre" and "meh" as equivalent. Thus, something with good bits in it is superior to the same without them.

Was this question supposed to require careful consideration?

Laser 08-14-2011 03:25 PM

No not at all. I was just wondering what people thought, is all. What if I changed it from "meh" to "bad"? Does that change your choice, BM?

Wings of Fire 08-14-2011 03:59 PM

Basically

Watching three hours of Joey.

vs

Watching the Star Wars Holiday Special with a couple of really good bits towards the end.

Strike Witch 08-14-2011 04:18 PM

I liked the Holiday Special.

Wings of Fire 08-14-2011 04:54 PM

Aren't these things both the same i.e. average or shit+good=average?

Phylum 08-17-2011 11:52 PM

They average out to be similar, yes.
