Valve have just announced a brand new Counter-Strike game Counter-Strike Global Offensive

Valve just issued a press release announcing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a standalone release that seems to be a full update of Counter-Strike: Source with new weapons, maps, matchmaking, leaderboards, and more. No screenshots have been released, but from Valve’s language, it seems like more of an “anniversary edition” of CS:S that dresses up the existing content than a full-on sequel. CS:GO will also be released on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. Read the full press release within.

Is breathing new life into the Counterstrike franchise Valve's way of providing a counterstrike (hur har har) to Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty or do you guys think they won't even come close?

I think it's pretty clear that the next addition to HL is Half Life 3. If Valve actually keeps us waiting for this long and releases an hour long episode to HL2, that sucks.

Btw, is this supposed to be Counter Strike 2?

Recent CoD and Battlefield games aren't really that great; it's just the franchise has a good name. CS has a good name and considering valve, owning steam, could manipulate the market to their advantage, I think this game has a good chance of succeeding.

Modern Warfare 2 was an epic game. Shame that people didn't see that Black Ops was an exact duplicate, but because of that the gameplay is still epic. It's not one of the best selling games in years for nothing. Same goes for the amount of pre-orders for Battlefield 3. Both that and MW3 are extremely high anticipated. Can't say I feel the same way about CS though.

Valve just confirmed that the game will be cross platform playable. So PS3 players can play against PC players. Also the game will support a mouse and keyboard on the PS3.

Guess the endless debate on controller vs mouse can finally be fought out now.

There was a new trailer released yesterday evening I think. It looks pretty nice. Oh and Crashpunk, in the video they confirmed that it definitely isn't CS2, rather an updated CSS.

I'll edit this post later if I'm not too lazy and post the trailer/preview or whatever it was.

Thats pretty clever, I don't think i've ever heard that being done.
I can imagen PC vs Xbox games. It would make things intresting.

Portal 2 supported PS3 and PC players in the same game.

I'm guessing that most people don't use that feature, as PS3 users also received a Steam Portal 2 key with their Playstation copy. I played it once through on my PS3, but all of my achievement hunting has been on my Mac.
