XMOBB
Didn't see this here so I thought I could share. Oddmobb seems to be Xmobb now. Go check it out on http://www.xmobb.com/
"Xmobb is a new and exciting app that enables friends to get together in virtual theaters, share videos, and hear and see the reactions to what they've shared—live and in real-time. Best of all, you decide the size of the theater. You can invite a few friends to join you in a cozy screening room. Or you can pack a stadium with thousands of spectators, watch a game together, and hear the roar of the crowd. It's an amazing experience that's different every time and like nothing you've ever seen before. So give it a try! You'll never watch videos alone again." You will need a Facebook account. |
I guess the relation to anything "Odd" didn't pan out.
|
I'm glad that has nothing to do with Lorne, it looks like the stuff stirring in my bog right now.
EDIT: It does have his name on it, and Sherry's...what the hell are they wasting their time on that bullshla for??? |
Management Team: Sherry McKenna, CEO and Co-Founder, Lorne Lanning, CCO and Co-Founder.
I guess this isn't the antisocial network he was talking about :) |
Ah sorry, I missed that. Derp.
This doesn't sound very 'antisocial' though. But I'm sort of glad. The notion of an antisocial network is a gimmick that's funny like once and has already been done to death. I'm not sure how incredibly useful this real-time sharing network will be. I guess it's sort of like a poor man's webinar site? |
Google+ hangouts? Anyone? We'll just have to wait and see how this kicks off. I'm not exactly excited but interested never the less.
|
I tried to sign up for the beta but the page dun goof'd.
|
:
EDIT: Fuck you Wil. Always spoiling things. :( |
Easy explanation: "Antisocial Network" was an early concept that changed.
|
I just felt like throwing up all over the computer screen.
And I have OCD toward everything relating to Oddworld. |
So no one else thinks this is cheap at best?
Oh except BroVen apparently. |
What the heck is this now...
|
In their defense, OWI isn't really working on much else ATM.
|
Just doing Oddworld stuff wasn't really getting them anywhere, sadly. This isn't a bad idea. It could catch on. It could make them money to put into future Oddworld movies/games.
|
And now they removed even more connections/references to Oddworld, possibly alienating some Oddworld fans.
|
Remember I was saying in the other thread about people being over-critical? Well...
You know somehow I don't see this being popular considering how much effort it takes to get people to watch or do things at a certain time. The appeal of watching videos together when you're with someone IRL probably isn't the same as when you're communicating with those people through digital means. I could be wrong though. |
:
|
It says "You'll never watch videos along again".
:( |
I have lost all respect for Oddworld Inhabitants.
|
Oddworld Inhabitants, made up of several other people besides Lorne and Sherry, many of whom aren't even involved in Odd/Xmobb, are definitely responsible for this website which is obviously the most terrible thing to ever be put on the web ever ever.
|
I think people need to get over the whole Lorne=Oddworld and Oddworld only thing. He's trying something new and it's completely unrelated. If you want more Oddworld, go look at JAW. If you want to know what someone we respect is doing, look at Xmobb.
Hopefully I can get the transcript of my new interview with Lorne done soonerish, so that I can post the looooooooooooooooooooooong explanation of his reasons for working on Xmobb. Short version: It's a project he's really passionate about, thinks will be wonderful for its users and hopefully will be profitable enough to fund further Oddworld projects. |
As long as it doesn't negatively effect any future Oddworld project, I'm pretty indifferent to this idea.
|
Not doing anything has seemed to negatively effect Oddworld projects so far. I don't think there's much to worry about.
|
Well this is one of the more useless things I've seen in a while. So... when I want to go watch a movie I need to add people to my theater so they can watch the same movie and we're not all very very alone? Or something? I don't get it.
|
Maybe it's better that this is called xmobb and not oddmobb. But erm, at least it's going towards future Oddworld things, and if Lorne is passionate about it, I stand by him. But the website needs a lot of work to make the whole idea look less, well...shit.
|
Nate instead of letting us hang you could possibly, maybe upload the audio file (I assume you recorded it) of the interview.
|
Does this 'gathering in a virtual cinema' thingy remind anyone else of the theatre in PlayStation Home? Never used it myself but as far as I know it is the same principle, to gather and watch videos, game trailers etc.
|
I think it's an alright idea, I think it will be a really good way for people living a long distance from eachother to do as much as they possibly can together. It's not the same as real life but it's a neat idea all the same, and I hope it catches on for Lorne and Sherry.
|
I have nothing against them making something that isn't Oddworld but hell, if they had the word "odd" in it originally, what's the profit of changing it?
Just saying how it could affect the way this sells. I have nothing against a project called XMOBB, and if this was called Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee 3.0 I would still want to throw up. |
Screenshots of Xmobb?
Has anyone actually been able to get in? I tried to go through the FB signup but didn't get very far. If you have access would you happen to have any screenshots?
Thanks! I was just curious how it compares (if at all) to our real-time group watching/listening service. From what I can tell so far it seems as if it's more like a Second Life environment rather than a fun utility app that JamCloud.com is trying to market. Just trying to keep an eye in the rear-view mirror! :) |
