The Final Fantasy Lovers thread

What's your best and worst moment from the series?

My choices are actually very close ♥
My best moment was the defeat of Necron with an under leveled party
I don't honestly know how i managed to survive 4 Grand Cross hits (almost in a row) but it felt orgasmic when I did (^_^)

Probably my saddest moment was the ending dialogue, when (I believe) a year from the defeat of Necron, all the characters were going to see a performance of "I want to be Your Canary", and sadly it is heavily implied that Vivi passed on, or "stopped", depending on which term you prefer.

Wings of Fire 08-06-2011 05:05 PM

Ozma isn't even the final boss of IX

You're a fucking troll.

Strike Witch 08-06-2011 05:55 PM

just play 8 14 times.

MeechCrunchies 08-06-2011 06:33 PM

oh shit. i wasn't thinking when I wrote that.
must have had Ozma on the mind.

Big fan of the PS1 FF games. And a lot of the offshoots.

DarkHoodness 08-06-2011 11:52 PM

I couldn't get into the PS1 FFs - They say Final Fantasy 7 was one of the best games ever, but I played Breath of Fire III and Breath of Fire IV first, and found them to be much higher quality and therefore a lot more enjoyable as RPGs. Maybe I needed to have played the SNES Final Fantasies to really understand the style of the PS1 games.

I've played through Final Fantasy X with a friend in the past, and even though it wasn't the best game ever, we found it fun enough to play through it a second time. X-2 sucked quite a bit though - Way to ruin your original game with a spin-off, Square Enix!

We've been playing through Final Fantasy XII occasionally over this year between other games, and trying to get as many items and kill as many side-bosses in the game as we can be bothered to - It's not the most fun I've had with an RPG, but still fun enough for us to rack up a playing time of 110 hours on our save file.

Phylum 08-07-2011 01:14 AM

I quite like the games, but I don't have the time to really get into them. I always leave them for a few weeks then forget how to play/what I'm doing and, after spending a few hours wondering aimlessly, I go and play Quake or something.

I've only been able to get as far as I have in Dragon Quest VIII because it's simple as fuck and your companions tell you what your objectives are.

MeechCrunchies 08-07-2011 01:58 AM

I started Tactics a few hours ago.
It's a good game, especially for one so early in the PS1's life cycle
but the pacing is like molasses..

Wings of Fire 08-07-2011 02:00 AM

I'm an odd fan. I dislike X a lot and love X-2.

Other than that I like I, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX and XII

Also Tactics Advance and TA2.

Jordan 08-07-2011 02:05 AM

I loved VII and VIII, they were the first I played properly. I've dabbled in the other games, X moreso than the others. I still need to properly play the SNES FFs. I think the fact that I played the PS1 Final Fantasies first has possibly damaged my view towards them. That sounds incredibly stupid, because I don't usually care which generation a game is from, but I was so mindblown by VII and VIII, the others seem to have a lot to live up for me.

MeechCrunchies 08-07-2011 02:11 AM

Have you played IX?
I can see where you're coming from.
I got wrapped up in VII,VIII and IX, so much so that I've never really touched the SNES and NES games. I should get around to them :(

Ridg3 08-07-2011 03:15 AM

I dislike X-2 a lot and love X.

Jordan 08-07-2011 02:02 PM

I've not played IX properly. When I first tried it (which was quite recently) I died on the first boss and gave up. How shit am I?

Mr. Bungle 08-08-2011 12:03 AM

I'm currently playing through VI and VII and enjoying the hell out of both. I'm not sure which I prefer, but I think I'm gonna go with VII simply because I've played it a lot more. After I've completed both, I'll see which one is my favourite.

MeechCrunchies 08-08-2011 05:22 AM

Sephiroth aint got nothin on Kefka though..

Crashpunk 08-08-2011 05:55 AM

I'm not a fan of FF but the SNES ones were good.

I'm I the only one who thinks FFVII is overrated?

No. So much of the internet hates it because it's popular that it's not even considered that great a game anymore.

Fuck you all, Final Fantasy VII was an amazing game for so many reasons.

Mr. Bungle 08-08-2011 07:03 AM

Yeah. It's almost become so cool to hate FFVII that it isn't.

Jordan 08-08-2011 07:49 AM

I had a brief moment of agreeing that FFVII is overrated, but that was after beating VIII and realising that VII wasn't the only good one in the series. I overcame that after replaying VII.

Dixanadu 08-08-2011 09:48 AM

Uematsu and Sakaguchi made Final Fantasy good.

Without them, now it's just shit.

V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X

XII was okay. I liked the monster hunting. It sucked ass in XIII though.

Wings of Fire 08-08-2011 11:18 AM

You forgot IV, Final Fantasy got good at IV.

Ridg3 08-08-2011 01:47 PM

I bought FFIV for my phone and I'm just waiting until I want to return to the horrible shitty controls to try and finish it.

Wings of Fire 08-08-2011 01:49 PM

Whilst no VI, IV is at the very least better than V.

The only thing I really liked about V was Faris.

I rented that when I was younger.

I haven't played it since, I could never find it anywhere.

I'll sell it you on the GBA for the cost of post and packaging if you want.

Destro 08-09-2011 04:10 PM

in a final fantasy game i have, the monster you hunt after rogue tomato is fucking hard! i can hardly kill it or hurt it very well.

Ridg3 08-11-2011 01:51 AM

That would be Final Fantasy XII. An okay game.

Dynamithix 08-11-2011 02:54 AM

I have Final Fantasy IV for the DS. I heard it was a great game or whatever so I decided to buy it. I only played about 2 hours of it and gave up, I managed to beat 2 bosses I think. Wasn't really a game for me.

The game doesn't actually start until around four to six hours in. If Cecil is still a Dark Knight then you're still in the prologue.

Dynamithix 08-11-2011 07:20 AM

Well, if a game requires you to play 6 hours until it starts to be decent, it's not a good game in my books.
