The Injuries Thread

What is your worst injury?
I'm too safe so I don't get injured. I think I remember fractioning/spraining my leg or something when I was like 4. A tv like twice the size of me fell on it.
All I remember is having no feeling in my leg and when my mother lifted the tv off, all the sudden pain came rushing to it and I literally screamed, "Argh put it back on, put it back on!"
Haha, share your injury stories here.

The worst injury I've ever done to myself is sprain an ankle badly during a cycling accident, and wasn't able to walk without crutches for 2 weeks. Suppose I've been incredibly lucky. That's not interesting though.

I have a small, but very visible scar on my hand from when I was a child - My cat rolled in crap, so me and my mum washed it off of him. Then when I was holding him and drying him off, my mum approached me from behind with a hair dryer and turned it on before I could stop her - The cat ended up gouging out a centimetre of flesh from the back of my hand. What I don't understand is why she thought that was a good idea.

At least I'll always have something to remember him by for the rest of my life, though.

I had my back chainwhipped when I was in high school.

Bullet Magnet 07-30-2011 02:24 PM

I've bashed my head in every way without causing lasting damage (besides bald scar tissue) or requiring surgery. Unless superglue counts as surgery.

I was on first name basis with my school nurse. Burns, scrollsaw accidents, bleeding head, grumbing appendix, and gas. But it was painful gas.

I fell down the stairs and broke my collar bone. Also if this counts I almost died from a lung disease when I was a baby.

Ridg3 07-30-2011 03:15 PM

I lead a relatively safe life with ever only a few minor injuries such as stubbing my toe and burning my fingers. Never broken a bone and I don't plan on doing so.

When I was around four, My father had this dog named Stone. He was malnourished before he was born, and consequentially his back legs didn't develop right. He couldn't stand very well, and he ran funny. One day my mother opened the door to let out the dogs, and I thought it was a good idea to jump out in front of them. Stone's mouth was open, and he couldn't stop properly, so I got the bottom right fang on the bridge of my knose, right between my eyebrows.
After that, I don't remember much, except that mom was panicking and Wolf, our sweet dog, was whining and licking at my arm. Poor thing was concerned about me...
Anyways that's the best I've got. I've got lots of stupid injuries, but this one is the worst.

JennyGenesis 07-30-2011 05:32 PM

Worst injury for me was when I broke my left arm when I was 9.

Sat on some bars in school and a friend thought it would be genius to push me off them, as I fell forward my arm slammed down on the bar.

The results?

A massive dip in my arm, it looked like this ---\__/---> and a massive dent left in the bar.

Mudokon_Master 07-31-2011 12:52 AM

D:
I saw a guy do that once jumping down a set of stairs on a skateboard.
He landed wrong and fell backwards, holding his arm back to break his fall, but it just snapped. And yeah ... It was fucked.

Best typo ever.

Oh also when I was six, at school at football smacked me in the face and I fell forwards, onto a bench, face first, I stopped the bench from hitting my face though...with my teeth. Apparently there are still my teeth marks on that bench and I lost one front tooth and a canine pretty damn early. Luckily they were my baby teeth.

I've never had any terrible injuries, either because I was a pussy child, lucky or just smart (I'll go for the former). I'd say the worst I ever had was when I had my hand "pierced". Me and my friend were running down his stairs and I had my arms held out by my sides holding onto the walls/banister. Because I was going at a reasonable speed, I caught my hand on their curtain holder thing on the wall. It was a really sharp hook that was facing upwards and it pierced the bit of skin between my thumb and index finger and went all the way through and poked out the other side. I remember blood and having to unhook my hand.

Dixanadu 07-31-2011 03:31 AM

I had my hand against the frame of the front door whilst talking to friends.

Someone left the back door open, the wind slammed the front door and smashed against my nails, horribly slashing them into my flesh.

Also, in Second Year at school while playing Gaelic football, I bent down to grab the ball and I got kicked right in the face and was knocked unconscious. Woke up with a busted nose and a bad headache.

JennyGenesis 07-31-2011 03:53 AM

I went to a metal fest last night at a bar.

My neck is in agony this morning from moshing... but it was an amazing night!

And my voice is gone :(

T-nex 07-31-2011 08:57 AM

My worst injury ever was probably when I smashed some of my teeth... Then I smashed the same on again later in life. Luckily i wasn't 18 so fixing them was free...

It did leave me with a sort of tooth phobia though. I hate seeing teeth get hurt in any way or falling out. I also have frequent nightmares about teeth, where I constantly bite down hard and they break.

Bullet Magnet 07-31-2011 09:02 AM

I have dreams where I uncontrollably clench my teeth painfully hard. But I do it in real life while dreaming. They really hurt in the morning.

Wait so...your avatar...that's not your real mouth? Or eyes?

When I was a kid, my nose was broken and no-one realised. If anyone ever soubts my claims of being the under-attentioned youngest child, thus is my absolute proof.

When I was 22, I was in a jetskiiing accident when some idiot turned around and rammed in to my side, knocking me in to the water. At the time, we thought that I just had internal bruising, but with hindsight I think that I actually had broken ribs. It just hurt too much and for too long to only be bruising.

Mac Sirloin 07-31-2011 06:42 PM

My dad knocked my top right incisor out when I was 15 and I fractured my ankle falling off of a foot-high window sill. I have a permanent limp from smashing up my right knee too many times as a youngun, but it comes and goes. I can walk completely straight and then just start hobbling around because my knee feels like it. S'alright.

Gwan-Thwei 07-31-2011 08:17 PM

I once slipped off of the monkeybars and had some faggot land on the small of my back. Little bastard knew what he was doing, and denied it to the teachers. Since they all hated me, they took his word for it.

Fuck them. I hate it when people do that to me. Hate it. And what I don't understand is, no matter how much I yell and tell them it was them and nag etc, etc, they think I'm lying.
Hate. It.

Bullet Magnet 08-01-2011 09:12 AM

It's not difficult to become liked by the teachers.

STM 08-01-2011 11:13 AM

Nah cuz dey iz rebelz innit brudda, they spit in de techerz faces innit.

Disgruntled Intern 08-01-2011 11:49 AM

I've broken both of my hands more than once. Boxers fractures in my right hand twice. Broken index finger on my right hand, broken left wrist.

Broken ankle, collar bone, nose, ribs, etc. I don't know which I'd call the worst. I have arthritis in both hands and my knees are pretty fucked up.

Actually I'd say in terms of pain the worst was probably getting my finger nail ripped out at the cuticle [well sort of crushed out] when I was 18. That was pretty fucking brutal.

I'm generally bad about injuries because my pain tolerance is high and I dislike going to hospitals. This means that when I'm cut/burned/something might be broken I tend to downplay it or generally not think it's as bad as it actually is. I've walked around with pretty badly broken bones for over a week before the bruising got bad enough that someone else dragged me to the doctor. More than once.

I was considered a "trouble maker", though I'm not sure why. I spilled some water in the hallway once, and the kid who landed on my back tried to get me in trouble millions of times, but I don't think that excuses their rash behavior towards me.

Mac Sirloin 08-01-2011 05:48 PM

When I lived out on the farm with my Grandma we had this really old, ratty camping trailer rotting beside the workshed. Apparently, when I was very young (possibly before I even lived on the farm itself) I climbed onto the bed at the back and fell off, directly onto my head/neck. I got a nasty gash on my forehead with a still-visible scar to boot. That was the first time I had stitches done.

When I was about 10 I was absolutely INSANE about making fresh lemonade. Just completely bananas about the entire process. Not to sell or anything, just for forcing down my family's throats.
Anyhoo, one morning I woke up fairly early and decided to make some Lemonade. I sliced a few lemons/limes in half, and then somehow unwittingly spun the blade around so it was cutting-side up. I tried to force the now difficult knife down on the lime, but instead sliced open the bottom part of my right index finger real good. First time I saw skinless flesh. Drizzled in citrus juice. Yowza.
That got stitches too, but not until like 12 god damn hours later, at which point it hurt like the dickens.

I remember when I was 8, I was running around the classroom in school when I suddenly tripped over and caught the right side of my face on the corner of a desk. I had to have my face glued back together :(

Thank goodness 10 years on you would never know it happened when you look at me.

MeechCrunchies 08-02-2011 12:16 AM

i remember when I was 8, running around my house and not heeding the warnings of my parents.
well, little did I know that karma existed for little kids..
I wound up coming around a corner and since I was going so fast, tripping on a nail that was poking out of the table, and i did an accidental superman in the air while my leg was caught on it. It tore open my leg, and I had to go to the hospital to get stitches X_X

LDG519 08-02-2011 12:31 AM

my step brother decided to throw me on the lounge, only there was a hole in the lounge were the metal frame was showing and my head hit that, I didn't think much of it at first untill I felt moister at the back of my head and when I looked at my hand it was covered in blood, I was rushed to the hospital were I spent half an hour in the emergancy waiting room, in the end they just put some glue on it was fine.

Crashpunk 08-02-2011 12:48 AM

I've done many injuries to my head over my short life so far.

When I was 2 I apparently tripped up in our living room and split my head open on the fireplace. I lost a lot of blood. and when I was in Year 8 I wacked my nee really hard on a corner of a table. The pain was such shock to my body and I fainted and I fell from standing hight onto concrete, My head was the biggest victom and I have a dint in my skull to this day.

I think all these head injuries has made me somewhat mad :spin:
