Oslo bombing

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14254705

Shit just got real for Norway. Government buildings hit, two people confirmed dead so far, fifteen injured, and apparently there was an armed gunman or gunmen attack on a labour party youth camp in the process?

It just happened less than a few hours ago, so news is confusing at this point.

Either way, shit.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2011 08:36 AM

Of all places. Wtf.

T-nex 07-22-2011 09:07 AM

This is quite weird indeed :S
I hope this is just internal affairs that will be taken care of quickly.

Bullet Magnet 07-22-2011 09:58 AM

It's a surprise in a way, but I'm actually surprised the Nordic nations haven't had shit like this sooner.

DarkHoodness 07-22-2011 11:07 AM

But why Norway? I haven't noticed them being a properly significant part of much lately concerning international affairs... Or is my head really buried that far into the sand? Feel free to correct me.

Dynamithix 07-22-2011 11:39 AM

That's strange.

STM 07-22-2011 12:28 PM

How sad, I can't say I expected Oslo to be hit, I mean, Norway isn't exactly prolific in inflammatory of any militant group. They don't know who it was yet though.

Wings of Fire 07-22-2011 12:48 PM

Al Queda hasn't claimed responsibility yet. Which probably means it wasn't them.

An attack on the government headquarters and on a training camp of the party in power? Sounds like a fringe political group to me.

STM 07-22-2011 12:52 PM

Viking supremacists.

This might sound very naive perhaps...but I didn't think that any Norwegian had it in them to do this, they don't seem the type.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2011 12:54 PM

Reports say that the guy who opened fire on the youth camp was definitely not Middle Eastern. So there's that.

T-nex 07-22-2011 01:05 PM

Its funny how bombings all get associated with middle eastern people now...

Sekto Springs 07-22-2011 01:07 PM

Well, they have been responsible for almost every significant bombing of anything in the last decade.

Not in the UK, which is why my intuition immediately flagged 'Northern Ireland' and not 'Nine Eleven'.

STM 07-22-2011 01:10 PM

Minus in Ireland. I admit they were my immediate thought, then the Eastern Europeans. Thought I doubt it.

You flag Irish separatist before all else? Even given that it was conducted in a northern Nordic country?

No dummy.

I mean it reminded me of an internal incident rather than Islamic terrorism.

enchilado 07-22-2011 01:21 PM

It was the Vikings that drove the Celts back into Ireland in the first place.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2011 01:23 PM

Are the Irish separatists to blame for the fact that there are no fucking waste bins in London anymore?

No offense, Dix/Ridg3.

Photo of the beach on the island the youth camp was on. It's blurred out, but the area blocked out is where the bodies of some of the kids that were shot were, to give a sense of scale to the shootings.

Suck my dick, yank.

I had just watched a report on it. If it's Al-Qaeda, doesn't make sense. Norway is completely neutral.

Either that, or Al-Qaeda got dodgy fishing rods sent to them, or perhaps a faulty black metal album.

Manco 07-22-2011 03:30 PM

I've heard theories that the attacks are politically-motivated, coming from the crazy far-right wing of Norway. There's still nothing substantial though, and AFAIK no-one's owned up to it yet.

DarkHoodness 07-22-2011 04:00 PM

Yeah, I recently listened to a documentary on the gradual changing political standpoint of the Nordic countries - About how some of them have a right-wing movement that is slowly growing in popularity because some people are intolerant shits and are fearful of immigration, among other things.

If it was one of these right-wing groups who were responsible for this, it's certainly not going to do their image any good.

moxco 07-22-2011 05:15 PM

Bombs are always a good way to get your point across...

Perhaps it was some other group but are blaming their opposition, you know like the burning of the reichstag?

Edit: Actually I take that back. Extremist are generally stupid enough to do something like this.

Huh.

There I was thinking Iceland was the only Nordic country with a zero tolerance for immigration. I mean, anyone who isn't even remotely white is treated with suspicion.

Police have confirmed they are questioning a 32-year-old Norwegian man who was arrested on the tiny island of Utoya, where 84 people died when a gunman armed with an automatic rifle and dressed as a policeman went on a shooting rampage at a youth camp.

Holy shit.

Dynamithix 07-23-2011 03:36 AM

84 people? Damn.

DarkHoodness 07-23-2011 04:03 AM

Apparently they've arrested one dude and charged him with both attacks - It could all be the work of just one crazy man rather than a group.

Makes you think, eh?

Crashpunk 07-23-2011 10:45 AM

Its just horrible isn't it. One crazy dude did all this.

bastard.
