The Maestros Amongst Us
I think we have some musicians on this forum but I never remember who. So, does anyone play any musical instruments, or do you vocalise? Maybe some people have recordings of their talent?
I personally play the guitar, classical, flamenco, spanish and rock and at one point I was learning the bagpipes but I never followed through. |
I play banjo, bass guitar and minature accordion.
I used to play the violin but I don't any more. I once learned to play the piano but then I forgot. |
I played the recorder, so much as you can play a recorder, god awful fucking piece of shit wood wing crap tube. I played the good 'ol tin whistle as well but not any more.
|
I play the piano, the sax, the guitar and the bass. I'm not a fantastic player, but I like to play them, and they're useful for helping me figure out arrangements.
Over the past ten years, I've been composing too (Charles Ives got me interested in that). None of you will ever hear the pieces though. I don't think I'll ever hear them properly - I don't have the money to hire musicians. |

The classical guitar is the spanish guitar. |

Also there's no such thing as a 'rock' guitar.
|
Rock guitar exists as a playing style, but not an actual instrument.
|
I'm not doing this again.
|
I did play Sax and got up to grade 3. Something I intend to return to in the future because I accidentally kept school's instrument, so it's MINE NOW! :fuzemb:
Also I really want to learn guitar, so that's something I may start over the summer. |
The thread title is maddening. Somebody fix it before I go all Michael Myers on the innocent.
|
I once played the flute. I was never much good at it, so I did not really keep it up. I like the instrument, but not playing it.
I do occasionally fancy myself a bit of a singer. Though, I think it is just me who likes to do it, and I probably sound like I have a cockroach in my throat. I also do some composing with midis, but it's not anything I really feel inclined to share. |
I compose extensively, but I cannot play for shit.
I'm currently holding down a job doing music for a web-series in the same vein as Red vs. Blue, only instead of Halo it's Quake/Doom. Here's the main theme I composed for season 2, hosted via Soundcloud; "Arenas Theme" ~ Arenas: Season 2 by Xocolatl |
Grade 6 (AMEB) Piano. Yeah, I can play some cool Chopin and shit.

YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!
EDIT: Also, I'd tap that. |

I have hundreds of compositions, but very few have come along far enough for me to be willing to share them openly. My Soundcloud account has more midi-based demo pieces than finished ones. :fuzemb: Here's two more. First one is also from "Arenas", the web series. The second is a more ambient piece. Color-coordinated for your pleasure! "The Stealthy Approach" ~ Arenas: Season 2 by Xocolatl A-B by Xocolatl |
What programs do you use for your compositions, Sekto? I've been interested in composition for a long time, but I suck ass when it comes to understand theory and shit.
Also, OANST, I never did get to hear your songs. I'm sure they were amazing. |
I write the notes out in Finale.
I'm currently using the 2011 edition. You can easily hunt down older editions for download online, they haven't made any significant changes to the program for the last 3 years. The program acts as a midi controller. Anything you write in it can be played by VST libraries. I have 80+ gigs of professional instrument libraries. I can almost perfectly replicate the sound of a live orchestra. I use East West Quantum Leap, Tonehammer, and Native Instruments libraries. Some of the most high-end, comprehensive stuff on the market. And I know how you feel. I'm not great with music theory, I can't sight read for shit and I lack the finesse and patience to play an instrument. The good thing about Finale is that you can compose by sound if you can't read music, which is how I started out. |
When I was a kid, I did piano lessons and played the oboe for a while.
I now own a ukulele but don't practice enough to be able to play more than three chords. |
I play Air Guitar.
|
I play bass.
I hear that DI plays a good skin flute. |
I learned a bit of piano when I was little, but since I haven't practiced since then the only song I can play is most of Happy Birthday.
|
Ready, everyone?
I primarily play flutes. Not flute, flutes. I specialise in the regular, C flute but I also play 3 other types. I own an additional 3 types, but I never have time to practice them. I am very proud to own a bass flute. It's a really nice instrument and I picked it up half price because it was dropped in the factory. There's no real evidence of it happening, though. I play my Irish flute and tin whistle quite regularly, too. I own a Nepali flute, a tenor recorder and a treble recorder. I have played a contrabass flute a few times, too. I'm fairly good at it. I've even had a lesson from a world class low-flute specialist on one. He also gave me a bass flute lesson a few weeks ago. I'll post some photos and possibly some videos when I have time. I'm about to go perform with my flute ensemble. Oh, yeah. I also play tenor saxophone in my school's bigband. I used to play alto. I still own one, but I rarely get it out. |
I don't play anything, once my dad tried to get me to learn to play one of those mini guitar things (theres no way in hell i'll be able to spell the proper word for it) but after 3 months of no progress and crap music he finally let me stop

Do you have access to any (good)recording equipment? I'd love to work with you. |

I wonder if maybe I should post something of me playing up here? Toccata and Fugue for the guitar maybe. |
