Who the f*ck is River Song?! No Spoilers - Just Speculation!
 

Right, for us brits there's just one week left until we supposedly find out the true identity of the mysterious River Song, so this is the last call to get your bets in! Also any theories on what's going to happen with Amy's baby? Let the mindless nerd-speculation begin!

I think it's almost certain that River will have a relationship with the Doctor, no guessing needed there. But how does she fit in to the whole scheme of things? Fire away with your best ideas! And now the old Doc' knows he's going to die, Well done Amy!

Also has anybody seen the cast list on the IMDB for episode 13 of this series? Apparently David Tennant is billed on it. Not only that but above Smith! Also Peter Davison is on there, but at somewhat of a lower position. I think that information should be taken with a pinch of salt at the moment though.

I don't like Moffat writing in who she is. I liked her as an occasional, enigmatic cameo character.

New cybermen! Unofrtunately they look like those typical clunky ones except they don't have Lumic's insignia on them. I just wanna know who fucked Amy, the Doctor or her husband.

I don't like the fact that River said that she and the Doctor are only meeting in reverse order. If that were true, why the fuck would they need to compare diaries?

If you tune into BBC29 after each episode you'll come across 'Doctor Who After Hours'. I think that's where they show these scenes.

Yeh but it's the big OMG that they haven't given away yet. Although I hated how that Amy was a double and the Doctor killed her, that was just not right! And besides, when did it happen? When did he make her a dopple ganger?

Of course it does, it's a speculation about an unelaborated moment of a family science fiction show, entirely out of context and contending with a previously established bias. I'd worry if anyone read that and thought "what exquisite fiction, I am now a fan".

Its gone shit. It wasn't always bad.

It really was. Since it began airing, it was a piece of shit. People still like the old ones because of nostalgia and people like the new ones because they're "trendy".

I like the new ones because they're funny.

I like the old ones because they were fucking terrifying to their audiences. Look at these cybermen for goodness sake. Rarely talking, human converting menaces that lurked in the shadows, not bang bang clunky throat cancer voice enhanced monstrosities that are susceptible only to a pissing RPG.

I have to agree. The new ones are a bit better, though. The special effects are much improved, although they're still about the same in relation to what's possible, and the acting is better (but still subpar).

The series is full of discontinuities and things that generally just don't make sense, and it's rarely moving or frightening because for some reason you just don't care about the characters. It's especially groan-inducing when the characters think someone has died who can't possibly have (eg, the Doctor) and you have to sit through several minutes of sobs and mournful music before he reappears and everyone goes 'yay'.

Some of the episodes are better, however. Neil Gaiman's The Doctor's Wife was very good, and Steven Moffat's episodes are better than most - especially Blink, which is probably the best episode I've seen.

Some flaws Moffat is directly addressing, such as the Daleks: he's given them a rest for a while, because as the Doctor's most popular and therefore most frequent villain, they are the most reliably defeated of his opponents. It's telling that in the only Dalek story of Moffat's tenure, back in the last season, they succeeded in their plan (unfortunately their plan appeared to be to convert their entire race into Volvos).
