Oddworld codex

hi I'm new to the forum but I'd like to get straight into it, I am currently working on a codex containing all the information about Oddworld and some of my own stuff, I'd also appreciate anyone else's ideas for history or creatures. for example, I am thinking for the species also known as outlaws and where they came from, or steef history. so if anyone would like to pitch in would be great:fuzwink:.

by the way, I'd also like someone to help decide for the symbol going on the front, something original

sound's cool cant wait to see it :)

What a coincidence I was about to make a P&P RPG game with perhaps some sub-codices as well.

What do you need by means of history and stuff, do you need writers or people to gather background information? I might be able to help a little if you like. I think I did something similar at some point, if I find it I'll link it to you so you might be able to get a little help.

Oh, wait no I didn't never finished the codices. Never mind.

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 01:42 AM

what i need is creative minds, the history does not need to be REAL per-say, it just has to fit in with oddworld, real history must be included as well. oddworld is big, VERY big, it can't just revolve around the same species, characters, we need to branch out. so by history i mean something you made up that kinda explains the "why" or "how" of a certain topic, like mudokon history, famous battles, shamans or simple laws or the life cycle of them, if you get what i mean

I think you need to do some research on existing codices first. Look at the D&D, Warhammer and LoTR codices, while being based around tabletop warfare, they also give a lot of insight into vastly detailed worlds. Since designing my own P&P I've downloaded the C'thulu mythos rulebook, old D&D codices and dusted down my old necrons book as well.

I think I'm going down the path of the nerd, haha.

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 02:33 AM

Ok lets not call it a codice, but more like a.......fact book, like the oddworld book of art, but with more facts than art. i will show you the first part when it is done what i mean

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 02:35 AM

plus, oddworld can get pretty detailed if you try

Hulaabeo 05-17-2011 02:48 AM

Hmm... IF you want info, try Xavier's Oddworld Library.

And don't double post. Use the edit.

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 03:02 AM

ok will do. :)

STM 05-17-2011 05:04 AM

I think if your looking to do a fact book...it''s been done, the Oddworld Encyclopedia is the biggest and most comprehensive book of knowledge there is and it cannot be surpassed.

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 05:26 AM

The difference with mine is it will show history and oddworld creatures made by me and anyone else who wants to help, so it will consist of both real facts and fan facts like made up wars buisnesses and creatures. I understand that it has been done i just wanted to have stuff that people on the forums have made up in it as well

STM 05-17-2011 05:28 AM

So it's sort of a fanonipedia? Fair enough.

Thecatalyst 05-17-2011 05:29 AM

Yes, all i need is some good fan ideas to get it underway your morbodd story ( which i have read) is an excellent example. Say it was based on a true story, that is what i mean

STM 05-17-2011 09:18 AM

Well if you acknowledge me you can take it.

I want to pop in and suggest that what you're proposing is an Oddworld "Memory Gamma", as opposed to the "Memory Alpha/Beta" I've been working on.

That is all, except good luck!

I labelled outlaws grots, just a different name.

I also thought that some of the outlaws looked lik grubbs, a
Little mutated as if they were brought in by glukkons and loaded with steroids

Can you make, like a template, of what you really need? That way, everyone that want to contribute, can do it easily. Also, I'm interested in this. :D

Thecatalyst 05-20-2011 06:55 PM

explain a template.

Hulaabeo 05-23-2011 07:30 PM

A very thorough, well thought-out plan of what you want to do exactly.

enchilado 05-23-2011 07:49 PM

A template isn't a plan. A template is an example without any real details/content that is used as a base or guide for what you are creating.
