Pork & Beans

There was this one cinematic on the Oddworld Cinema that confuses me. Two clakkers are talking about eating some "Pork & Beans". There are no pigs, or anything that resembles a pig on Oddworld (Other than industrial scum, no offense). So what DO they put into Pork & Beans?

Mikaeel 05-05-2011 01:21 PM

I'm pretty sure this cutscene isn't in Oddysee or Exoddus, so I'm not sure if I can help you.

Sekto Springs 05-05-2011 01:28 PM

Thanks for that contribution, Mikaeel...

Anyway, I think it's technically "Pawk and Beens(z)". So no, it doesn't come from a pig. It comes whatever animal "Pawk" comes from.

Crashpunk 05-05-2011 01:38 PM

I've never heard of that cutscene?

MrGothmog666 05-05-2011 01:44 PM

Or "pork" means something else on Oddworld. Because to be honest, why does the Oddworld language NECESSARILY need to match up to English in every case? There are no words like "mudokon" in the English language are there?

no offense

None taken.

Have you never visited the OW Cinema?

Also, the guys at Oddworld Inhabitants aren't purists. They draw parallels to our world all the time with little or no in-universe explanation. Why? For a cheap laugh. Often times they won't justify it beyond changing the spelling of the word ("Khanzumerz", "New Yolk City", "Ratz").

Mr. Bungle 05-05-2011 04:23 PM

Yeah. You shouldn't look into shit like this too deeply, or at all. They're not meant to taken this way. Minor gags, that's all.

Gwan-Thwei 05-05-2011 05:49 PM

We really needed a new thread for this? Couldn't you have posted in Oddworld Questions and Answers?

MeechMunchie 05-05-2011 11:28 PM

Now, what animal does 'Pawk' come from? I think it should be Paramite.

Wil 05-06-2011 02:00 AM

It comes from a Pyg.

Makes sense.

Gwan-Thwei 05-06-2011 07:08 AM

Paramites sound like pigs, so it makes sense. I always pictured Paramite meat as having a smokey, salty flavor though.
...which isn't what she said.

STM 05-06-2011 08:16 AM

ITS A PYG DAMNIT, Pygs are now an official Oddworld species.

Bullet Magnet 05-06-2011 11:21 AM

It's like a pig, but it has one eye, one leg, and is all lips and arseholes.

Kinto 05-06-2011 12:56 PM

Please, fuck off with these ridiculous fucking comparisons. You don't seem to get that spotting some vague resemblance of an Oddworld creature to a real one doesn't mean you've worked out a complex design secret, it means fuck all.

For the most part. I'll admit Scrabs do have legs like a crab, and their head looks like one's pincers. And as for Clakkerz... well. But that still doesn't mean there's some sort of fucking link between them and that they're "like" each other.

Alright, I was just saying...they do sort of sound like pigs is all.

Wait a minute, if a Pyg is all lips and assholes, then wouldn't that mean that oddworld has their own version of hotdogs too?

Only in MO. And, god-willing, that will be retconned (again) in the HD version.

American Pygdogs.

I see what you did there, very clever.
