Unused Oddworld Wildlife
I always thought the concept art of a movie or video game was more interesting than the charectors themselves, because it's always fun to see what could have been.
For example, before HR Giger was discovered and hired to make the Xenomorph in ALIEN, the alien was designed to look like a squat, fat praying mantis. This discovery made me stop and think of how the creature would have acted, and whether the series would have done as well without Gigers help. This thread is for posting creatures and wildlife that were planned, but never used. To start off, while screwing around a few yeard ago, I found these strange creatures. They were made by OWI, but were never used and, as far as I can tell, never mentioned anywhere. 12512 My fave 12513 some strange spider like things...I got the impression that they spat stomach acid during attacks, but I'm not sure if I read that or thought that up myself. 12514 Odd pig-rhinoes I'm not sure why the pics are so small...but you can open them larger in a different window. |
These were meant for the Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot which, for all intents and purposes, is not technically Oddworld.
|
Pretty cool though.
|
Since Fangus was never released, there's no saying whether it takes place on Oddworld or not. It certainly was at the start of its development, and it certainly wasn't when development was cut off, but since the developers responsible for transforming it from the first state to the second state are no longer its developers, there could theoretically be regression.
|
I realllly like the top two. They're very oddworldian. Not to sure about the boar thing on the bottom but I guess I could see it fitting into stranger pretty well.

the boar rhino thing looks like something off tak 2
|
I actually don't think they look very Oddworldian. They're missing a certain quality.
The muted colors might be a factor, since Oddworld's critters and environment are always aesthetically vivid. |

that actually would of been pretty cool EDIT: lol max the mug is in there |
I'd like to think that Fangus would have made a good non-Oddworld game.
It didn't seem imperative that it take place on the same world. Bearing in mind however that Oddworld is a massive planet with vastly different cultures and characters that haven't even interacted with each other makes it a little easier to swallow. There was something harmonious about the Oddworld creatures that these designs lack. I'm not sure what it was, but even the most incomparable designs had a certain homogeneous quality. |
The question thats been huanting me for years now is, "who are those damn Khanzumerz and what do they look like?"
If i knew the answer to that i could die a happy man. |
I don't remember if we ever determined whether or not "Khanzumers" were a single creature or if it just applied to a caste of society that existed solely to purchase the industrialist's products. Like how the "Outlaws" in Stranger's Wrath encompassed several unnamed species.
|
Khanzumerz are the consumers of all those Glukkon, Vykkers, and Oktigi products. It is not known whether they are a distinct species, or whether this is just the Oddworld word for ‘consumers’ that includes many races
|
Thank you for repeating what I just said.
|
sorry when i posted yours came up over mine

I always thought the sea-rex was cool, but I'm not sure why. The promise of an underwater super predator always seemed ossim. I heard that they were planning on having some small ones nudge the ferry in Stranger's Wrath, but I didn't find out why they were cut. 12515 The best picture I could find. ...again, it's really small, but if you open it in a different window, it gets really big and you can see lots of detail. |
Insert the image using [IMG] tags rather than by attaching the file.
EDIT: also, |
thats cool :)
|
Don't forget Kintos.
|
so thats where kinto got his name from
|
@enchilado ahhh, thank you. So graceful.
I found this thing a while back while looking through concept art... I'm not sure what it is, I've been calling it an "arzad" because it's the only legible thing in the picture. It looks like something you'd encounter in a factory. 12516 @enchilado the [IMG] things didn't work for me, it just attached it as a thumbnail. |
It's a 1%er. It says Farzad. that long thing is an F lol
|
That's a 1%er/an alternative design for Meetles. Its designer is Farzad Varahramyan, five sixths of whose signature you've read.
EDIT: Beaten to it. ;) |
so that's a 1%er? Wow. I thought they were bikers though...oh well.
|
They are, just with mechanical legs instead of bikes.
|
@Max that makes no sense, comparing them to bikers, but oh well.
I heard somewhere that they were planning on using bunnies or something? they looked like pink twinkies, and the babies looked like purple fuzzles with whiskers. Anyone know what they were called? |
It does make sense if you think take ‘bikers’ to refer to members of a motorcycle gang as opposed to literally people who ride a motorcycle. Which follows, because ‘One percenter’ is another name for such a member. As a subculture, these people valued the freedom, nonconformity and loyalty of their biker group. You can imagine the bike being replaceable with any technology that lets such groups take to the open road. Mechanical legs would work fine.
By bunnies, you probably mean the Meetle grubs. These are the guys you can turn into either Meetles or Mugs depending on whether they're fed on plants or meat. The purple things are an earlier design for Fuzzles. |
