Writer Needed for text based RPG

Then allow me to help you. I am Scrabtrapman and I have an idea.

But I need your help!

Ok basically I have had an idea for a text based RPG for some time now, it is Oddworld based and will follow the rise and fall (perhaps) of a new hero figure. Hopefully it will run in command prompt and will provide at least an hour of interesting game play. Now, I can programme this game easily but I need to first write the RPG.

I'm talking an entire game world people! Places, characters, items, weapons, story lines, heck even names.

So I implore you to take some interest and post below if you reckon you could fill one of the two spaces I have for designers. Thank you for reading!

I'd be interested in working on something like this, but your history of beginning projects and abandoning them shortly after doesn't encourage me to help. How can I be sure I wouldn't write tons of dialogue only to have you lose interest?

STM, i remember you asking me about learning c++. Did you learn some? Sounds like you did. I think I could probably do some of the coding for something like this (I'm not going to though). If you need someone to ask about something, try me. If you've learned what I've learned then we're at the same level and could maybe advise each other. If you have an idea for a game mechanic but dont quite know how to make it work in code, see if I can help out. Good luck anyway!

Well, because I would be writing upon an equal level to you, and I have only ever not finished two projects, if you mean the new forum theme, I am still working on it as I have stated. I suppose, really, all I can give you is my word that I intend to work on this until it's done or I lose my fingers trying. It would be a small team of three people (me and two others) so no one wants to let anyone else done.

EIDT: @ Avenging Gibbons - I'd be coding in batch, I never learnt C+ but I did learn a bit of javascript instead, now I'm working on SCRODD.

It's going slowly, after exams in a month I'll have nothing to do so I'll work on it more, mostly it's just simple coding but thing are limited like interaction that I haven't yet figured how to expand.

I'll be happy to design some Slig characters and Oddworld food items.

I'll do a bit when an odd job needs doing, but I won't be able to be constantly involved.

Ok, Alex, I know your work is pretty fine but Criss Cross, not be rude but I've never seen your writing ability, I assume it's good but could you send me a PM with perhaps a brief paragraph of something that shows your ability?

Game play will involve visiting different areas, performing quests, levelling up and an in depth story, think Fallout or perhaps Elder Scrolls then remove the graphics.

I didn't think that this many people would be interested so maybe we can have a bigger team if that many people are interested? Ok, if you are interested, just say so below, if yes, how much effort will you be able to put into the game?

So far I have Criss Cross with a solid yes, Meech Munchie helping a little, Alexfili, maybe Enchilado and maybe Oddey.

If you have an pre-existing ideas for the game, I would like to hear them. Otherwise, I think I have some ideas for some areas. And perhaps even some quests.

So, tonight Prandium Games (yes folks we named the group) had a meeting discussing little more than the above name before Dixy needed to grab some baccy. Promptly ending the meeting. Unfortunately, it was just me and Dixy who turned up. Which is a shame since everyone bar one person said they could make it in a PM (although another person did have a valid excuse) I therefore assume that you guys aren't interested? Which is fine because I know that people have RL lives as well. Remember, the chatango box is always up and you don't have to be chatting to each other live for someone to get another persons message.

There will be no meeting on Thursday at 19:00 because I have rugby training and won't be able to meet you all however, Friday 19:00 I will be around, if you are interested you need to post so in the Chatango box by then, I will see the comment when I next log on. If you don't post by then I will assme you are no longer part of the group.

The above seems like I'm angry or sounding self important to me, I'm not trying to be generally but those are the facts is all. =)

I didn't think you could actually have a too cramped team. I mean. The more, the faster the projects gets done.


Anyway if you're going to code with more than one person, I suggest looking into a think called Subversion or SVN. Haven't quite figured out how to use it myself yet, but it seems very useful. It kinda works really buggy with the very simple android application that I made.
