youtube google account verification

WTH is this shit? I don't want to verify my youtube account by linking it with a google account. not sure if this is worth a new thread, but I don't like where this is going. I am still resisting facebook and co, but on the other hand I am using blogspot...

Daxter King 03-13-2011 06:27 PM

Make a free gmail, only ever use it for Youtube.

Done.

scrabface 03-13-2011 06:44 PM

right... only they want to verify the google account by sending me a code to my mobile phone LOL

Mac Sirloin 03-13-2011 06:47 PM

I did this an incredibly long time ago. It was easy, and has not provided any problems. Get the fuck over it.

This.

This.

Oh, it did motivate me to get a Gmail account, though. Which has helped me get jobs as it's simpler and more mature name.

Nate 03-13-2011 11:08 PM

It's no different to the fact that my gmail login is the same as my account for Google Calendar and Google chat. Now they're just integrating one more of Google's services.

DarkHoodness 03-13-2011 11:27 PM

CONFORM.

Havoc 03-14-2011 12:51 AM

I love Google and the integration it brings. Oh god I just realized I am to Google what Apple fanbois are to Apple. Dear jezus.

Manco 03-14-2011 02:18 AM

Just looking at the Account Creation form, it doesn't look like you need to verify your account. Is it an optional thing? If so, why do you want to do it?

but on the other hand I am using blogspot...

You could use Tumblr instead.

Havoc 03-14-2011 02:55 AM

Verifying your account makes the process of getting back into your account after losing your PW or something easier.

STM 03-14-2011 09:50 AM

I think that this youtube/ google thing is a grim analogy of human conforming. We have no power to stop this internet mega corporation from doing this merger. We must simply lower our heads and stop contemplating another freedom of choice we have lost.

Ahahahahaha. No.

Havoc 03-14-2011 11:10 AM

Really? No one is forcing you to use anything that Google offers except maybe it's search engine and even those are alternatives for. So stop bitching.

Ah, gotcha. I've never really worried about password recovery, so I didn't think much about the subject.

Yeah, I'm hardly a fan of Google, but going on about them taking over the Internet and us having no choice is absolute bullshit. Nearly every single Google service has dozens of alternatives and competitors, so complaining about "another freedom of choice we have lost" is completely retarded.

Disgruntled Intern 03-14-2011 12:34 PM

Some part of me thinks that people from youtube will be able to get to my blogspot from my youtube account if I do the google link, and I don't like that.

Also, I don't use gmail. I prefer gmx.

Mr. Bungle 03-14-2011 12:42 PM

I've been asked to verify my account with gmail or whatever it is you're whining about a few times, but I've never actually done it. I just see it as a waste of time, really.

They haven't asked me to do so in a while, either.

Disgruntled Intern 03-14-2011 12:49 PM

I can't even comment or watch 'mature' videos on youtube without signing in at this point, and I can't sign in without linking. Bitches.

Mac Sirloin 03-14-2011 12:58 PM

Hasn't connected to my Blogspot account in any discernible form.

MA 03-14-2011 03:21 PM

this shit popped up with me a few days ago. i have no fucking idea what i did, but somehow i managed to verify my account with Hotmail again. i know for a fact that i don't have a Gmail account. but i was inebriated at the time, so what i did was most likely something obvious/simple.

scrabface 03-16-2011 02:25 PM

I .. I did it!! I feel strange ... around my heart ... and my braiiin. also my butthole's burning. why is that so?

Wil 03-16-2011 02:30 PM

I did this a long time ago. It was annoying, but only because it made it temporarily slower to access videos. YouTube is Google anyway, it makes perfect sense.

Chubfish 03-16-2011 03:32 PM

Stupid, but yes it makes sense.

Doing this recently reminds me how long they tried to push it on users (4 + years now probably).

Crashpunk 03-19-2011 05:27 AM

I did it when Google just broght YouTube, It used to ask me every time I logged in.

T-nex 03-19-2011 05:55 AM

I have no idea what this phone verification is. I didnt have to do any phone verification when I got my gmail account.

I also willingly linked my gmail to my youtube x_x Makes it all the more easy... for me I suppose.

But there should be a choice.

Actually google is starting to scare me. They do provide some good things but..... They are kind of nearing a monopoly. That really shouldn't happen.

Im hoping a new company will come and provide equally good service or better! Competition is good.

Wings of Fire 03-19-2011 06:23 AM

Google/Youtube do not have a monopoly on streaming sites by any stretch of the imagination.

No, but they have the potential, cos I dont see any other companies really being much of a competition to them.

Oh well... I like google.. And what they have to offer.

Havoc 03-19-2011 12:11 PM

Just because Youtube is the biggest site doesn't mean it's the only site.

T-nex 03-19-2011 12:16 PM

Omg really? I wouldn't have guessed.

Havoc 03-19-2011 01:32 PM

That's why I spelled it out for you. You're welcome.
