WTH is this shit? I don't want to verify my youtube account by linking it with a google account. not sure if this is worth a new thread, but I don't like where this is going. I am still resisting facebook and co, but on the other hand I am using blogspot...

Make a free gmail, only ever use it for Youtube.

I did this an incredibly long time ago. It was easy, and has not provided any problems. Get the fuck over it.

Oh, it did motivate me to get a Gmail account, though. Which has helped me get jobs as it's simpler and more mature name.

It's no different to the fact that my gmail login is the same as my account for Google Calendar and Google chat. Now they're just integrating one more of Google's services.

Just looking at the Account Creation form, it doesn't look like you need to verify your account. Is it an optional thing? If so, why do you want to do it?

You could use Tumblr instead.

Verifying your account makes the process of getting back into your account after losing your PW or something easier.

Yeah, I'm hardly a fan of Google, but going on about them taking over the Internet and us having no choice is absolute bullshit. Nearly every single Google service has dozens of alternatives and competitors, so complaining about "another freedom of choice we have lost" is completely retarded.

Some part of me thinks that people from youtube will be able to get to my blogspot from my youtube account if I do the google link, and I don't like that.

Also, I don't use gmail. I prefer gmx.

I've been asked to verify my account with gmail or whatever it is you're whining about a few times, but I've never actually done it. I just see it as a waste of time, really.

They haven't asked me to do so in a while, either.

I can't even comment or watch 'mature' videos on youtube without signing in at this point, and I can't sign in without linking. Bitches.

this shit popped up with me a few days ago. i have no fucking idea what i did, but somehow i managed to verify my account with Hotmail again. i know for a fact that i don't have a Gmail account. but i was inebriated at the time, so what i did was most likely something obvious/simple.

I did this a long time ago. It was annoying, but only because it made it temporarily slower to access videos. YouTube is Google anyway, it makes perfect sense.

Doing this recently reminds me how long they tried to push it on users (4 + years now probably).

I did it when Google just broght YouTube, It used to ask me every time I logged in.

I have no idea what this phone verification is. I didnt have to do any phone verification when I got my gmail account.


I also willingly linked my gmail to my youtube x_x Makes it all the more easy... for me I suppose.

Actually google is starting to scare me. They do provide some good things but..... They are kind of nearing a monopoly. That really shouldn't happen.

Im hoping a new company will come and provide equally good service or better! Competition is good.

Google/Youtube do not have a monopoly on streaming sites by any stretch of the imagination.

No, but they have the potential, cos I dont see any other companies really being much of a competition to them.
