Necrum Factoid
I may well not be the first to notice this, but here I go anyway:
In Fan Corner there have been a lot of people who've attempted to design a Shrykull symbol. In Abe's Oddysee we had this: http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/CAAO0153.jpg But most people seem to like the Necrum style tattoos more. As such, various people, myself included, made various overlapping monogrammic symbols, and felt clever for doing so. However, leafing through the art book the other day (Page 117), I looked at the Necrum symbol carefully and realised that there has been one all along. Leave out the Mudokon bones and there he is. http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5031/92525019.png Thoughts? Oh, and on an unrelated note, I seem to recall having an argument over whether Farzad Varhammyrammydingdongwhatever's caricature was on the Brewmaster's watch face or not. It is. Look carefully at the pictures on pages 140-141. |
Outstanding marine. But I like the one above, is it fan made or actual AO, I couldn't make it out from your post.
This is pretty cool though and yeh I agree, you can see Farzard Varhammyrammydingdongwhatever's face on the watch, but I thought that was common knowledge... |
The first one is on TOGG, so I'm assuming it's official.
|
Yup, no fan art on Togg, its one of its only rules...
|
After the oft-broken "Do not talk about TOGG".
|
Awesome.
|
:
Who is Farzard Varhammyrammydingdongwhatever? |
He was a concept artist for Oddworld Inhabitants back in the day.
Just put that into google. |
He was also, in my opinion, their best conceptual artist.
His non-oddworld work was surprisingly underwhelming though. |
I agree suprisingly, to an extent I felt the same way about Olds as well.
|
Nice work... makes me wish I looked more into stuff like that. Might have to crack open the art book some time soon. BRB fetching rubber gloves.
|
Holy sheet, you're right about the Brewmaster's watch. It's funny, the amount of time I've spent staring at it trying to find any hint of the Farzad caricature and never succeeded.
|

I'm in the same boat as Max on this one. I spent ages staring at the watch expecting it blatantly plastered onto the face (of the watch that is). Then I re-read MM's post and noticed the carefully.
"Holy shit where's the twelve o'clock!" |
:
|
No. For my money, my eyes were always drawn to the spot with the mysteriously missing number. It aggravates my latent OCD.
|
My eyes were always drawn to the passage of text that said 'we replaced it with a picture of Farzad Varahramyan, our production designer'.
|
I only ever saw Farzy's face on that watch, damn it MM I knew something Max didn't and you've taken that away from me.
|
I'm confused. I still can't see Farzad's face anywhere on the watch.
Are you guys playing an 'Emperor's New Clothes' trick on me? |
Are you guys talking about this picture? I think that the Farzad picture is in the down-right corner.
EDIT: Sorry, just read that you guys were talking 'bout Brewmaster. My mistake! |
:
Maybe you need some new glasses. |
:
|
That's his caricature, there's a bigger rendition of it on the bottom of a Munch page in chapter five.
|
It's a lot clearer if you use a magnifying glass. It is there though
|
:
|
I should really purchase an art book so I can join in on all the fun of caricature-hunting.
Seriously, though. Are they worth the money? |
:
Yes. |
I ordered the hard covered art book a day or two ago. I hope it gets here soon!
|
To clarify, is the picture of the Brewmaster the one where he's standing partial profile? Because the light reflecting off his watch in that picture makes it nearly impossible to see the whole watch face.
|
It's the full page picture on the right. And it's not hard to see. That's why I can see it.
