The obvious next step for the makers of Brütal Legend

... would, of course, be to make a licensed Sesame Street game.

And before you ask, today's date is February 16th, not April 1st.

Mac Sirloin 02-15-2011 05:27 PM

And it will be a masterpiece.

Mr. Bungle 02-15-2011 05:49 PM

It's Doublefine. It should be good.

Then again, they made Brutal Legend (which I didn't play, but heard was "meh").

Disgruntled Intern 02-15-2011 09:06 PM

Less than Meh. OANST will defend it to hell and back. [whoooooo doggy] but it really did suck.

Daxter King 02-15-2011 09:38 PM

They say they want to do it though, this will probably make them some money too.

Nate 02-16-2011 12:06 AM

They can't make every game for the indie art fags. It's good financial sense to branch out and do other things. We'll just have to learn to deal with it.

But I like Sesame Street. I grew up counting with The Count and Grouching with Oscar.

We can only hope they'll follow it up with a Eureka's Castle title.

Then why "Less than meh"?

Dynamithix 02-16-2011 04:49 AM

Nate, I think he referred to Brütal Legend.

Also, I thought Brütal Legend itself had so much potential and everything and when I played the demo I though it actually was awesome and when I got it I was pretty disappointed. The battles are really stupid IMO (The stage vs stage thing.) and I really want to love the game, but it's like it doesn't let me. It was truly 'Meh'.

EDIT: On-Topic: Sesame street is kewl.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2011 04:56 AM

Really? I thought the demo and the stuff outwith the stage battles was truly meh.

Stage battles were cool though, more people might have liked it if they knew they were buying an RTS.

Dynamithix 02-16-2011 05:24 AM

I partly knew that, a friend of mine told me about the fights and I was a bit confused yet interested about it. If you like those kind of games, you'll like the battles. I didn't.

Disgruntled Intern 02-16-2011 08:28 AM

It was the fact that it was an RTS that mostly put me off. Well that and the fact that everything looked the same. I wanted the diversity of psychonauts, damnit.

Then why "Less than meh"?

Was indeed in reference to Brutal Legend.

DarkHoodness 02-16-2011 08:53 AM

Am I the only one here who enjoyed Brütal Legend? Maybe that was because I played it before I played Psychonauts, and my expectations for it weren't so high. I did get the feeling that it should have been better though - The RTS bits were incredibly out of place. It wasn't a bad game by any means and the atmosphere and concept were really great, but it's wasn't anywhere near as good as Psychonauts.

Earlier I had a discussion with a friend about why some games based on popular movie/TV franchises suck so much (Shrek, Futurama, some Star Wars games, etc) - And it's because most people hire the cheapest people they can to make them, so the companies can milk as much money from the franchise as possible. People will buy games like that simply because they're based on a franchise - It doesn't matter how good the games are. And that's a great shame.

Even this is a weird move by Double Fine, I'm glad they, as experienced game developers, are being employed to make a game for a franchise. Warner Bros. made a good decision for once. :P

Bullet Magnet 02-16-2011 12:56 PM

I really like Brutal Legend. I love exploring that world and enjoying the soundtrack, both the licensed Metal and the original incidental score.

I'm gutted that there won't be another, with a new foe to face and continent to explore. How they'd have filled Tim Curry's shoes, though, I'll never know.

Gotcha. I think that when I read your post, yours was the only new post in the thread so I didn't realise you were responding to Mr. Bungle. Chalk it up to idiocy on my part.

Nate 06-11-2011 06:35 AM

I never really feel like I get Kinect games when I see them demonstrated.

EDIT: I think I've worked out why I find them so perplexing. I'd bet money that every single demonstration was pre-recorded and they just had hired actors to mime in time with the video. Watch this one and try to see how on earth the kids' actions line up with the video. And note how their supposedly 'in the moment' dialogue sounds so incredibly scripted and rehearsed.

Mac Sirloin 06-11-2011 08:37 AM

I hate the way the kid says his lines. The whole video would be more meaningful if they didn't give us that shit.

JennyGenesis 06-11-2011 08:53 AM

Kinect sucks. I sadly own one :(

Daxter King 06-11-2011 01:34 PM

I had a Kinect once, then I sold it for infinite profit. I do not regret the decision.

Yeah, I know. It just sounds so rehearsed.

I just watched it and those kids terrible acting, topped off with her revolting fake laugh had me almost dry heaving.

Yeah, I know. It just sounds so rehearsed.

Miserably, tortuously, disneyously rehearsed.

I never noticed this post before.

I will not defend it. It took about a month for it to really sink in, but yeah, Brutal Legend was a major disappointment.

Daxter King 06-13-2011 01:55 PM

You told me it would be worth $10.

Clearly you were over hyping it.

OANST 06-13-2011 01:57 PM

Sorry.
