Marble Hornets

Mod Edit: Split from 'Bits and Pieces'. Hopefully it'll grow into a nice, speculative conversation!

It seems like season 2 of Marble Hornets is about to get interesting. Finally.

What's interesting is that since this was posted we haven't heard anything. Jay's last tweet was "Entry #32 will be up soon" - he'd normally tweet a link after it was up. I wonder if something happened?

OH MY GOD JAY WHAT IS HAPPENING I THINK SLENDERMAN IS IN HER ROOM DON'T GO IN THERE!

Something like that.

No video yet because Jay and Jessica are getting it on. That's my theory.

...Entry #33 will be pretty awkward.

T-nex 01-13-2011 05:29 PM

I watched the whole Marble Hornets thing by Oanst's suggestion.

Gotta admit it's pretty good X_x damn.

I really hope it'll have an ending and not just one of those projects that get thrown away after a while.

Either way, I really like these pseudo-real horror things. I really like horror, and these guys seem to have constructed a very interesting story. I'm very intrigued :)

Oh and I pose a question: What if its all really happening?? O_O Duhn duhn duhn!!! - kidding!

Mr. Bungle 01-13-2011 07:59 PM

I lost interest around part 27 or so. Dunno if it'll be the same for you.

Since they're now in their second "season", I'd say they're pretty dedicated.

My only real complaint about Marble Hornets is their tendency to bring up plot mysteries and then take forever to reveal them - we still don't know what the fuck happened in 2006, just "something" involving the Slender Man.

But I can usually ignore that because they are absolute pros at building tension and creepiness in their videos.

Also, did you watch the totheark videos T-nex? Just checking.

I watched Totheark's videos yes :) But I only found out about them after entry 20 cos I'm unobservant. They are all very interesting.
I do feel it all would have been more fun if I had watched them from the beginning like everyone else, what with the anticipation and all. On the other hand, I'm terribly impatient.

I don't think i'll lose interest for a while yet though. I love horror and I like these types of horrors :D And I love the story so far. Though I also wish they'd start revealing things soon.

Like in entry 12. What happened? They even went to interact with Slender man, yet they seemed to act all normal after that. Hmm.

I linked her to the suggested viewing order page of the wiki, so as long as she used it she should have seen all of the totheark videos.

The series is pretty slow-paced, unfortunately - roughly a week or so between each video. Quality is better than quantity, though.

I really hope Entry 12 gets a second half eventually, I'd love to see what happened after Alex walks up to the Slender Man.

Damn, those MarbleHornets' videos are really scary. I've only watched two of them, should I watch every single one? I just hope there isn't any pop-up scares in them. I hate those...

Marble Hornets has maybe one pop-up scare, and it's pretty obvious to see coming. Generally, they're really all about tension and suspense.

T-nex 01-14-2011 06:18 AM

Yea.... I don't feel like Marble Hornets uses cheesy and cheap scare tactics.

OANST 01-14-2011 06:27 AM

It's important to read Jay's Twitter, too. Totheark will sometimes put pictures on his twitter account. I'm almost of the opinion now that totheark is trying to help Jay, and not hinder him.

Wings of Fire 01-14-2011 06:31 AM

Nerds.

T-nex 01-14-2011 06:39 AM

Fuck you Joe!! Back to the dungeon with you <.< How did you get out anyway! >: (

I read his most recent tweet after seeing the videos, Ill probably get around to reading the rest soon.

I like the fact that they actually made a pretty good explanation as to why they film themselves so much. Instead of the usual: I NEED THIS ITS THERAPEUTIC it seems that that observing Slender Man hinders him somehow, so it's just a good and practical measurement to take. I like when things are practical.

Manco 01-14-2011 07:09 AM

I wish they would use the Twitter more, actually - all we really get is "video uploading/uploaded [link]" and the occasional "not sure what this is". Seems like a Twitter account would be a great way to show off Jay's mindset, changing personality and paranoia.

I've been thinking this for awhile. Specifically since the video where Jay sees Totheark/The Masked Man peeking around the corner at him.

shaman 01-14-2011 04:22 PM

And up comes entry #32. Probably yet another anticlimax, but all the same i'll enjoy the ride.

T-nex 01-14-2011 04:27 PM

#32 is already up. he didn't tweet about it, so something's probably up.

Manco 01-15-2011 06:33 AM

Two days since Entry 32, and no tweet linking to it. Something's definitely up. Did something bad happen, or has Jay just gone quiet to avoid something bad happening?

At this point I'm wondering if our next update won't be from totheark. It's about time he showed up again, it's been 11 months.

OANST 01-15-2011 07:14 AM

I'm half-way expecting the hotel to be like Alex's house where the doors lead back in on themselves.

I'm half-way expecting the hotel to be like Alex's house where the doors lead back in on themselves.

It would be pretty cool if the next update was Jay and Jessica wandering around an empty hotel as it gets steadily darker every time they go through a door. Maybe they could split up, each carrying a different camera.

Actually, I'm going to take a minute here to rant about something that's been bugging me about this season: the hotel.
All the hints so far seem to be leading us to believe the hotel isn't normal: nobody else stays there besides Jay and Jessica, both of whom are apparently Slendervictims. Neither of them have any memories of checking in or arriving at the hotel. The whole thing seems like it might be set up to make the hotel another House.
But then we have the fact that a hotel isn't the same thing as a house. I could accept the empty house in season one as being all distorted because a) the house generally looks like it's abandoned, b) empty houses generally aren't very conspicuous to passerby, c) empty houses generally don't traffic a whole bunch of people, and d) Jay never spends an extended period of time in the house.
You can't apply any of those things to a hotel. An abandoned hotel wouldn't be staffed, wouldn't have any working facilities, and generally would be very noticeable to passerby. If it wasn't abandoned, it seems to me to be way to big a stretch that the only people who would ever stay in it would be Slendervictims - at least someone would check in at some point; there's no way a hotel with only two guests could stay in business, after all.

Dynamithix 01-15-2011 08:22 AM

Ok, so I began watching these MarbleHornets -videos and holy shit I got fucking scared on Entry #5 when the audio got fucked up. Anyways, these are very mysterious and I'm definitely gonna watch all of them. Spooky!

Manco 01-19-2011 12:39 AM

New Entry:

And holy fuck is it good.

Mac Sirloin 01-19-2011 06:44 AM

Finally, something to snap the interest back.

Obviously that Masked Man looked like the jogger Jay encountered before.

It's the same jacket from season one. So, probably Tim.

Also I just noticed - at around 0:46 in the new entry, Jay whispers "oh great" to himself. I love that kind of little detail.

ziggy 01-19-2011 02:56 PM

It's Michael Myers!

Mr. Bungle 01-19-2011 07:30 PM

Holy shit. I forgot how good this series was.

Can't wait for the next part.

STM 01-20-2011 09:46 AM

I watched this for the first time under blog suggestion two months back. How scary is slendy? I thought the whole thing was over though!

EDIT: Wait, whose the masked fellah?

EDIT: Wait, whose the masked fellah?

You haven't watched many of the videos, have you? The masked man is totheark (who is probably Tim), or he could be a new masked character who has been dubbed Tothearbys because of his girth, and his intentions are unknown. Slenderman (or The Operator) is creepy because it's impossible to figure out what it is that he wants. He hasn't killed anyone involved that we know of, though he has had multiple opportunities.

STM 01-20-2011 10:16 AM

Oh, thanks for clearing that up, yeh I only watched ten.
