PERSONAL ODDWORLD MODELS
So I made my own model of an elum but alas my texture and mapping techniques aren't the best, so I give this to you the Oddworld Community to see what you can come up with. I'm currently working on a personal mod regarding Oddworld that me and my friends are playing, but due to copyright I'm afraid to share it with the world just yet.
The Zip contains, a 3ds format Elum and two texture packs including the Normal Maps & Diffuse. Here's a PNG of my Elum, all proportions and modelling was done in accordance with the Elum diagrams and pictures online. |
Looks cool! I'm no good at graphics ;).

nice one edward982. Just wondering, did you paint the texture yourself? Or use the one that's from images in the Art of Oddworld book?
|
I created a plane in 3ds Max and pretty much modelled Elum around that. I used a cuboid shape and extruded pieces bit by bit. The texture is the one that came with the original oddworld manual... I'll link the one I used.. There is a game engine that would be perfectly suited for an Oddworld Mod. I'm using "The Lord of The Rings - The Battle For Middle-Earth" as a template.

That looks like a Model from Munch's Oddysee.
Nice work! |

Good job with the model by the way. I love how it's turned out and can really see it working in a fangame. Kinda resembles the Age Of Mythology models to me. Good luck with wherever you're taking this. Anything you can do with models like that is worth seeing. ~Blessed be |
First, good idea for a mod.
But second, is BFME as moddable as BFME2? I have barely seen an mods for it and the file formats seem closed. Great man, great ;)! |
I have previously worked on two mods within the BFME2 game, one of which was S.E.E. and the other RJ-ROTWK. I held the position of character modeller on both. Okay, so seeing as we can't extract munch I decided I would make a model which can be used by the Oddworld Community. It took me 4 hours to do including mapping. It is not rigged or animated but does contain a Normal Map for anyone who would like to apply a Direct X shader... it looks awesome with the shaders. Here it is for your consumption.
Anyone who uses this model must credit me, please :) PS - I still need help with my Elum textures. |
very nice models ;)

BFME1 + 2
Both of these have a .BIG packing system, you can extract them using FINALBIG editor which works for a few other .BIG packed games like Star Wars EAW. BFME2 has an SDK that works with BFME1 which allows for the addition of new content. Some stuff is hard coded but powers, damage, armor, fx, models, anims, weather etc can all be altered using code. W3D Assets can also be imported to 3ds Max 7 for altering or export. However only the extracted anims from BFME1 can be imported successfully.
Here are some reskins I did of the stock Gabbit model. |
... so it would be more useful to make a mod for BFME1 due to the animations... Good, I only have BFME1 :).
I can see that a lot of the game can be changed. Great, I bet we can make a pretty good Oddworld with this :). Seriously, this is a great idea. I'll install the game again and check out the tool. If I get lucky, I may come here later to help on the project. I would love to help with this, I just want to make sure I can :)! I may be over my head here, since the game might not be this moddable :( but here's an idea: Oddworld Inhabitants: Primordium --> A rts detailing the rise of the Glukkons and their battle with the native Mudokon tribes (who would eventually lose). Of course this means that we get to see wild Gabbits and variations on known animals (plus, more of them, before the threat of extinction). If this isn't possible another alternative would be the spring engine: http://springrts.com/ :nerdgasm: I would love to work on this! EDIT: Here's a work in progress version of the skin. Trust me guys, it'll look much better when it's finished, I just wanted to show you I was working on it ;) Of course, it still needs much work and I can't work on certain areas because I don't have the 3D model to get references. Can you post some more pics of your skinned model? For reference, so I can know where to replace stuff. |
Nice, if you give me a day, I'll come back with a better model of Elum, I'm going to spend some time working on his face and remap the model a little to make it more aestetically pleasing, less stretched looking.
|
Great! Just make sure to provide more than one pic of the textured model so I can get better references. You could also upload the model, which would help me test the texture :).
I'll make sure to have a complete skin by Sunday afternoon (London/Lisbon time). And don't worry about the current texture xD I only spent half an hour on it. It will look a lot better in it's final version. EDIT: I'm planning to upload a special file by Sunday afternoon too...(if it works, it'll be too awesome for words) |
