Protopets vs. Fuzzles?
 

I searched for this but nothing came up...Forgive me if this has been noticed before.

I have only recently got back into the Oddworld series when we dug out our old PS2 and found Abe's Exoddus amongst the pile of games. After researching into the latter two games that I somehow missed out on, I discovered the adorable-but-psychotic Fuzzles.

Now, a few years ago I was a huge Ratchet and Clank fan and one of my favourite creatures in that game was the protopet. I always wanted a little fuzzy ball of fluff with teeth and a bad attitude, but now I'm stuck for choice! These two creatures seem almost related, I have provided a few pictures below for you to compare.

Maybe cute, round and vicious makes for a good cartoon-alien swarm...But I haven't seen another game with a creature that fits this criteria...

And just for fun:
If you could take one of those home as a pet, which would you choose?
Which would win in a fight: A fuzzle or a protopet?

you gotta love tribbles, although they are cute and round I'm not so sure they fit the vicious part of the criteria, then again they were the mortal enemies of the klingon empire.

As much as I love Ratchet & Clank, Fuzzles are so much cooler than fucking Protopets.

The pictures I provided don't really do the protopets much justice...I shall have to draw a few to contend with the fuzzles! Tribbles are cute too...And would furbies class as fuzzy-psycho-balls? They're pretty sinister... And the dustballs from the PSP ad! Maybe people like things that look like a hairball's cuddlier cousin? XD I demand fuzzle plushies! Ones that turn inside out to show both sides of their personality!

So are Tribbles the inspiration for fuzzles?

Paramites are cuter than all of them.

@Andrelvis: Totally...But don't get me started on Paramites vs Cloverfield Parasites XD If I had to choose between those though, it'd be Paramites all te way...They squibble! X3 Although hearing a terrifying, large-jawed creature going "WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA!!!" Is pretty hilarious.

Mmm... The protopet has more personality but meh, I think fuzzles are cooler. :P

Oh and BTW it's not surprising that there are many other creatures that look similar to a fuzzle, considering they're incredibly basic as far as fictional creature design goes.

Hahahah I forgot about that ad XD The protopet is really badass, but the fuzzles have intelligence on their side...Maybe we should create a SUPER HYBRID PROTO-FUZZLE!!! :D

I think TVTropes needs a new adddition: 'Carnivorous Wigs'.

Interestingly, these aren't the only comparison you can make between R&C and Oddworld. Look at Vykers and Terrachnoids, for example...

If I didn't know better I'd even go as far to say they were exactly the same creature, just modelled in different art styles.

Hmm, well both games are, essentially, about alien planets and weird creatures. Perhaps it's not so odd that the two have one or two creatures that are similar, eh? But wouldn't it be wonderful if Lorne sued Insomniac and made OWI incredibly rich! Heh, someone should send him an email about that or something ;)

I think the guys who made Ratchet & Clank were fans of Oddworld back in the days of when they were making Spyro. Its a possibility that some of the creatures were inspired by Oddworld.

also i too Love Ratchet and Clank to death. I like protopets more then fuzzles, mainly because protopets always made me laugh when i was a kid
