The presents/christmas thread!

Okay, in my family it's traditional to open one Christmas present on Christmas Eve. Usually to read or play that night.

This year I received a very pretty hardback edition of Dante's Divine Comedy from my mother with lots of nice illustrations ^^.

More on presents tomorrow.

Bullet Magnet 12-24-2010 03:08 PM

Already? I only just wrapped mine.

Wings of Fire 12-24-2010 03:10 PM

In addition to gifts from my family, I also have two sizeable gifts from friends in the US that have arrived as well as a gift from my sweetheart which unfortunately didn't arrive before the weekend, so I'll be opening that one on Monday.

Bullet Magnet 12-24-2010 03:14 PM

Well in that case I received a pair of Steampunk goggles from an Internet friend in America a week or two ago, which could could as a Christmas gift. Nothing like mystery gifts from mystery people to raise some eyebrows in the family.

Wings of Fire 12-24-2010 03:22 PM

You simply must post a picture.

Bullet Magnet 12-24-2010 03:23 PM

I've been trying to get one for a while. Someone will be snap-happy later today, I'm sure.

Nate 12-24-2010 05:13 PM

How do you non-travellers have so many international friends close enough to bother sending presents?

It's Christmas morning and for the 28th year in a row I woke to no presents. Maybe Santa will remember me next year!

Mac Sirloin 12-24-2010 06:12 PM

It's about 10:00PM here now, I just finished wrapping my gifts (well, not just). Not really felling the Christmas spirit this year, but it's still a nice time.

I got 150 bucks and a chocolate orange.

Also I bought a quality wooden jenga set for my kid cousins. They've been very hyper and rough lately so I thought it would be a good way to teach them to be more careful.

Nate 12-24-2010 09:00 PM

What makes it a 'quality' Jenga set rather than the standard one?

Speaking of Jenga, my mates and I saw this at 2:30am the other night (24 hour pre-christmas shopping ftw) and drooled over its ridiculously expensive box:

a chocolate orange? Ive never heard of that befor, I got $50, a $20 gift card for EB games, anouther $20 gift card for JB HI FI, a $10 gift card for some book store (I think it is koorong) and a pencil case (dont ask why)
I'm giving my original xbox to some cousins as I have recently got a 360 and I'm also giving them oddworld strangers wrath aas it doesnt work on the 360 and they need something to play on the xbox.

Phylum 12-24-2010 10:27 PM

I remember chocolate oranges from years ago. I didn't know they still made them. I haven't seen one in years.

I was given a new shaver by my parents. I hadn't shaved for 3 days so that I could really test it out. It's like shaving with a cloud; it's amazing. Also, it looks like something out of a spaceship.

My parents also gave me a $30 PSN card (I'll be buying Braid later tonight) and a set of small display-keyblades. I wasn't expecting either, although I may have hinted that I wanted the latter. My parents had said that if they gave me an expensive shaver (as they did) they wouldn't give me anything else.

I was given around $150 in money and vouchers (also $20 in late birthday money), a new shirt (I wore that out to our family lunch), some nice chocolates, some not-so-nice chocolates, a long-flying plane-thing, a fridge magnet with a paperclip attatched, and a sudoku book. I'm rather happy with my swag.

This year I enjoyed Christmas a lot more. At our family lunch I didn't run off with my cousins and use my cousin's Xbox. I talked to my family and really enjoyed it. My relatives are funny bastards.

I haven't opened up my gifts yet, but here is what I got some people:

Dad: Dilbert calender
Mom: Neat little candle thing
Brother: iTunes gift card
Cousin: Season 3 of Dawson's Creek

Me and a friend just buy stuff for each other whenever we see each other near Christmas, I got him Mass Effect 2, and I got Dragon Age. Im trading in Dragon Age to get Just Cause 2.

AlexFili 12-25-2010 12:13 AM

Inception on DVD + Chocolate = Win!

My dad got a chocolate orange. It's this quite cool chocolate which has to be whacked pretty hard on the floor to break the chocolate apart! :) "It's not Terry's... ITS MINE!"

Fred The Fuzzle 12-25-2010 12:29 AM

I got close to nothing this year, I was able to convince my parents to buying me a Sony Bravia 40" and a PS3 earlier in the year when there was a giant sale on, so I'm defiantly happy and thankful.

It was fun at the beach today, oh that's right you Northern Hemispherains don't have Christmas in the summer. While you guys were freezing you're arses off I got to go surfing at the Surfer's Paradise, Gold Coast (The Venice beach of Australia):

They are delicious. Chocolate in the shape of an orange, with a bit of orange taste to it.

Wings of Fire 12-25-2010 02:46 AM

From my family - A huge illustrated hardback edition of Paradise Lost and The Raven, as well as a paperback edition of Coraline (Finally), Iron Man on DVD, a nice shirt, some t-shirts, a box of chocolates and some smelly stuff. Oh, and £50.

There were several poor imitations made of plastic, I went for the nice solid wood one.

I want that :D Unhopefully I have normal Jenga. And I got iPhone 4! But I had to give half of its price to my parents :/ Anyway I can't play with it yet, as lame Orange offices are closed to Monday.

MA 12-25-2010 06:11 AM

among other things, i got my mother a pair of old fashioned scales, my stepfather a bottle of Southern Comfort, my grandmother a meerkat adoption kit and my grandfather a pack of fat cigars. i got a desk chair, seeing as my other one is well over 10 years old.

i also got my stepfather an electronic cigarette that doesn't emit smoke and doesn't contain tar, but has nicotine and produces a nicotine buzz. i didn't realise it was for people that wanted to quit smoking. i was really scraping the barrel this year.

Manco 12-25-2010 10:28 AM

I got a few bits and pieces, but the standout was a brand new desktop PC complete with 21.5" monitor. It's not exactly top-spec or anything, but after having nothing but a laptop to your name for 3-and-a-half years I'm certainly not complaining!

Second place gift: a magnetic spheres desk toy. I am so damn easy to please.

Daxter King 12-25-2010 11:39 AM

I received:
$100 Best Buy Gift card
4000 Microsoft points
GTA4 Complete Collection
iHome
New headphones
New wallet and other knickknacks

Chubfish 12-25-2010 11:56 AM

A skull.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 12-25-2010 12:53 PM

Ridg3 12-25-2010 01:37 PM

I think this year was my best for receiving gifts, what I got was;

The new Frankie Boyle DVD and his autobiography.
A new phone because my previous one was knackered,
Cradle of Filth's new album (although technically I bought it but it arrived on Christmas Eve so I kept it until today.)
A wash bag as per tradition in our household.
Clothes.
And a fucking mug I bought as a secret Santa gift but my brother wrapped it up and hid it on me.
A new strap for my guitar.
A watch.

And a good job as well seeing how much moolah I bloody well forked out over this sharing season. I got my mother a two tone necklace, my father a cordless 3 in 1 drill, sister - Twilight novels, Brother - cologne and This is England 86 and my other brother a pile of clothes.

Dixanadu 12-25-2010 03:08 PM

Wine.
Cradle of Filth album.
Shoes (Yay!)
A weird thing from a fucker.
T-shirt.
Ring that's utter crap.
Surrender + piece offering by a cunt, it was gewd. A pair of socks -_-
