Fan oddworld game, for an old console.
Ever thought about making a fan Oddworld game, but for an older console.
E.g. Snes By hacking a different game, change the music, change the player graphics to become an Oddworld character. I had come up with an idea, I saw a guy on youtube making a fan-game for the cancelled game: SligStorm, It didn't look that good, so I thought maybe a fan-game version made with another game? Just an idea, so any thoughts on it? |
I have the highest rated comment on that video as far as I know...anywho, that would be practically impossible for a good proportion of the people here, you can't just hack things and edit them into SNESiness. Sorry mate.
|
Well.
Well I could try cause I have all the neccesary things to change stuff.
|
Ok then go for it, but do you have a SNES to play it on, otherwise it's a bit pointless. I wish you luck but I've seen so many projects fail that I can't put too much hope into this. But still, if you can prove me wrong do it!!!!! =)

I am using a program called Zsnes to play it.

:)
At the mo I am trying to make the player graphics..they do look like a noob made them because you had to keep the same pallet for the player, Luckily there were 3 shades of blue and brown.
I was using a program called YY-chr for graphics editing, I might show a picture soon! |
Abe's Oddysee in NES 8-Bit. :D
|
Well I was thinking it to be snes :D
|
I think there are SNES developer tools out there to make your own game, I think most of it has to be written in assembly though. And I doubt you could make the graphics look as good as PS1 or fit as much data into the ROM :/
|
:)
I can expand my rom, thanks to the program lunar magic :)
I am going to have levels outside for a world and maybe If I can get graphics resources, Ill have an industry world! lets just see how it goes...;) |
Lunar Magic? So you'll be modding SMW?
Lunar Magic is a great map editor. I've used it myself for simple maps and I love it. There are tonnes of other tools for SMW that will let you change the music and all of the graphics. There are also lots of various tools for other things that I don't quite understand with my limited knowledge of programming. You've picked the right game to edit! |
this could be promising
|
Story?
Anyone know what the story could be based on?
|
To: Phylum
maybe you would like to help, If you have used lunar magic before and know the surroundings. |
i hate to be "that" guy, but you shouldnt be double posting.
|
There's nothing wrong with informing new members about not double posting. As long as you do it nicely, I'd encourage it.
Slaughterbrother, I never really did much with Lunar Magic. What I did do has been forgotten, as a few years have passed since I last used it. Sorry. |
Technically I didn't double post, If I did there would be two posts saying the same thing.
|
you double posted, if you post straight after your last post, you double posted, so technically you double posted, we know what a double post is, weve been on these forums longer than you. if you forgot to add something click the edit button located at the bottom right of each of your posts to edit your post. phew.
|
oh Sorry I didn't notice the edit but, my mistake
update: the player does look weird but the big version will look better. |
can you upload an image of it?
|
urr not at the moment, I still need to work on it.
|
Well it sounds like there is hope for this project. Yey, keep us all posted!
|
I do hope this is being made, I would like to see this.
|
Nice, I hope all goes well and good luck:) I know this is definitely possible and it's gonna be awesome!
|
I really want to play this.....
*anxiously waiting* |
What game from the past would offer an engine of similar function as that of Abe's Oddysee/Exodus? What do you think? I don't know many since I never had a SNES or N64, etc..
I'd say the most important part of the game is controlling the paths of mudokons from one place to the bird portals. What games have a similar scenario to this? |
Definitely nothing that I can think of and now that you mention it, most games have enemies that (obviously) follow you to try to kill you ... and I only have one game in my mind right now ... Super Ghosts 'n' Ghouls! I know you can change the enemies' sprites to Mudokons, but would it be possible to change their behavior as-in them not trying to kill you?
|
I did hack smw ages ago, the enemies don't follow you to kill you to be exact they just walk, maybe the slig could be a blue koopa as they stay on ledges.
I wonder if SlaughterBrother2 has made any progress on this. :fuzzle: |
