aliens and astronomy

what do you think?
are there any in our solar sistem?
what do you think they would look like?

Nate 12-18-2010 03:13 PM

Yes.
No.
Impossible to imagine.

ziggy 12-18-2010 03:27 PM

I'm pretty sure that my neighbor is an alien, so I'm a believer.

LDG519 12-18-2010 03:28 PM

I think aliens exist but not in our solar system.
there is no way of telling what they might look like.
the most likly planet to contain life so far would be gliese 581 d, it is a planet that scientists calculated as being in the habitable zone (not too close to the sun, not too far away either) they have sent a message there which will arrive in 2029 and the earliest time for a response would be 2049, although I don't think we will get a response evan if there is inteligent life ther, they are currently working on a new satalite that may be able to see the planet and determine its outer atmosphere, from that they can determine weather or not something is breathing down and if something is breathing it's alive.

so the discovery of alien life might actually be in our lifetimes.

ziggy 12-18-2010 03:35 PM

It seems really unlikely. A planet with life on it would be very far away and we don't even know where. Also if another planet's lifeforms become intelligent enough to master space travel and move across solar systems and galaxies why would they give a fuck about us?

I meant the discovery itself, not necissarily anything else. they already know were a planet is that could have life, they are currently working on a way to find out more about the planet and determine if it has life by examining its atmosphere looking for evidense of breathing, if successful all they will know is that something is breathing.

although I do agree that any life cabable of effective space travel wouldnt care about us

Mr. Bungle 12-18-2010 04:37 PM

I think it's kind of ignorant to say that we're alone in the whole universe. But as far as our Solar System, if there were any aliens, we probably would have found them by now.

Tadimo 12-18-2010 04:51 PM

Given what we currently know there is a real possibility that there was life at least at one point on other planets in this system, however most likely in the form of microscopic organisms.

That's like asking why people travel halfway around the world just because someone discovered a new lizard. The discovery of a new race, no matter how inferior, would probably be enough to motivate them. Of course, if it was purely to study and observe, we'd probably never even know.

Hazel-Rah 12-18-2010 11:28 PM

I think there's definitely life out there, I mean meteorites with amino acids have fallen from outer space so...

lismati 12-18-2010 11:43 PM

If you look only on Solar system, I would search on Europe (Ice-Moon of Jupiter) Under the ice there could be water and water is something important for life to begin.

Hazel-Rah 12-18-2010 11:54 PM

Seaman lives there

hm well from all of the pictures from mars, there was an evolution similar like on earth,a nasa rover found a fossil tree on mars, and some signs that there was a tribe, like fossil bones of water creatures and a black spot, like there was fire there once.... they think that venus was same as earth till its global warming went wild

STM 12-19-2010 01:27 AM

Just because there's water doesn't mean there's life, my physics professor told me once that sometimes a planet with more water than landmass can destroy any chance of life, there are other factors.

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur...1t:429,r:7,s:0 ^^ Geejaz guys there are tuskan raiders on Mars

were did you here about what the mars rover saw? (I dont deny the possability of life once existing on mars but Ive never heard of the mars rover discovering these things, then again I never watch the news so I might have missed it)

hey,we are building a rover to moon to place a croatian banner on moon,we are building a rocket in istra well it is a bit true that most of our ppl are stupid, but atleast we will have a flag on the moon :),it ll land near the apollo 13 site

here is the vid with the picture

the name of the organisation is:Astronomska udruga Vidulini or on english astronomic organisation Vidulini

You're kidding, right? I watched that video and, leaving aside the fact that I can't take anyone with such atrocious spelling and grammar seriously, he's just taken a low-resolution photo of a bunch of rocks and is claiming that they look unique. Like there have never been rocks that eroded to round shapes in the history of planet Earth.

OMG! It's a fossilised giant prehistoric mushroom!
http://wwwdelivery.superstock.com/WI...566-289385.jpg

AND here is proof that the mega-volcanos in South-Western Australia blew up at exactly the same moment as the Ice Age hit. How else can you explain a wave of molten rock solidifying in an instant?

And you can only imagine what sort of creature hatched out of this rock-egg. Seriously, you only can imagine it given that the idea is so absurd.

apparently there's a paramite on Mars??? http://www.alienshift.com/sitebuilde...ures/mars8.jpg

Nate 12-19-2010 10:25 AM

First of all, no that isn't the one used in the video.

Second of all, what's your point? I had already looked at the original photo before I wrote my last post. I was unconvinced then and I remain unconvinced now.

Strike Witch 12-20-2010 04:07 AM

God Mars is shit-boring

the only interesting place is the depths of the Mariner valley

hurry up and go look there NASA

Scraby 12-20-2010 04:30 AM

well,it looks like nothing but it might be a tree, its like you find a fossil and say,nah somebody just painted a plant on a rock

Nate 12-20-2010 04:03 PM

If vegetation grew on Mars it would probably look nothing like trees on Earth. Seperate evolutionary paths and all that.

STM 12-20-2010 04:13 PM

I doubt they would be oxygen breathing ones as well, probably carbon in taking, this would make chlorophyll a unlikely evolutionary path for any life on Mars.

Bullet Magnet 12-20-2010 04:43 PM

There does not appear to be sufficient medium on the surface it which to live. No liquid solvent, and the atmosphere is crap. Underground is your best bet.
