ODDWORLD INHABITANTS’ ODDBOXX: STEAM DECEMBER 20TH RELEASE DATE CONFIRMATION AND HOLIDAY SALE PARTICIPATION
Posted Friday December, 17

LOS ANGELES, U.S.A. – December 17th 2010

Today, Worldwide, Oddworld Inhabitants is announcing the Steam release date for the Oddboxx, containing four of its critically-acclaimed and award-winning classic games; Abe’s Oddysee, Abe’s Exoddus, Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath for PC owners.

The games will be released on Steam on the 20th of December, 2010.

IGN D2D, Stardock, Amazon, GamersGate and more, soon-to-be-announced retail download services, will also release Oddboxx, close to this release date.

The release of Oddboxx will also coincide with the first day of the Annual Steam Holiday Sale, meaning that during the first 24 hours of release, the game will be sold with 50% of its marked price discounted.

After this and until January 3rd, a 25% discount will apply to the marked price.

The Steam Holiday Sale runs from the 20th of December, through to January 3rd, as do the discounts above, exclusively through Steam.

Although the Oddboxx will be a generously-priced download that contains all four of these much-loved games, players can opt to buy the games individually.

Meanwhile, for those who make today their last day to surf the net for gaming news, make sure you check www.Oddworld.com on December 20th to receive some special treats we’ve been preparing for you guys.

We have yet more information and to come. Stay tuned…

Wow, I can't think of anything cynical to say. I'm genuinely happy.

OddChipango 12-18-2010 08:47 AM

lol just 2 days away.

NovaMan 12-18-2010 09:00 AM

I will only buy the game without internet connection, as a physical box(hardcopy) inside a real world store.

MeechMunchie 12-18-2010 09:01 AM

Looks like you'll be missing out then.

I hate the future because of digital distributions without a chance to get the physical copy of it in real world stores without internetconnection.

Offline is always the best and safest way to go when buying new games,
then you always have physical copies and don't have to bother with online digital distribution downloads.

If no one wants to buy the physical one, then buy digital cars, food, monitors and speakers and then when they reached 100% at download installation, then only click on them a like a regular executable file and then have fun with them like the real world thing to all corners and even up to the galaxy in our sun system we have outside our houses.
A computer can't simulate a 100x faster computer on its own like having mirrors inside mirrors and so on infinite.

Steam is one of the safest and most trusted internet video game providers on the market. There is no future in them being bankrupt, and they hold sales weekly that may save you up to 40 dollars in cash. If, for some reason, Valve does go under it will be a long time from now and WILL be seen happening long before it does. They will have a backup plan ready, hell they probably have one now. Your attitude is losing you money and comfort, just buy it online.

e: Oh yeah and this is never gonna be sold in physical copies so tough luck.

The difference between a game and a car is that a digital car is of no use outside of a computer, where you would need it most.
A car needs to be able to function in the real world.
A game just has to run on a computer.

Xavier I totally forgot we share a birthday! Yes it will be a good one indeed! :D

Andrelvis 12-18-2010 07:44 PM

I don't like Steam very much, but there's no way I'll be missing out on this :)

Sometimes the things don't work like they're supposed to. Gamersgate.com, for instance, is much better.

lismati 12-19-2010 12:21 AM

Games aren't meant to be played, theyre meant to look nicely on your shelves :D
(God, I hope anyone will understand this). Anyway I will buy OddBoxx right away.

Manco 12-19-2010 12:46 AM

So guys.

Stranger's Wrath was released January 25th 2005 (in North America; March 3rd in the EU).

And now, 5 years and 11 months later, we're finally getting a new release from Oddworld tomorrow.

It's been almost 6 years, but Oddworld is on its way back again.

Thats why i mean physical copies instead of digital downlaods.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here. Could you elaborate?

You can't do anything with outside your computer with a physical copy of a CD. Vastly different than, for instance, comparing .pdfs and books.

lismati 12-19-2010 02:53 AM

You can use CD as a frisbee.

Nath 12-19-2010 03:36 AM

I'd rather a digital distribution of the games. My Munch's Oddysee disc got damaged about five years ago and haven't been able to play it since.
Now I've just installed steam on my bootcamp. So i'm prepared for tomorrow

It has to download a 100MB update every time you launch it.

Wil 12-19-2010 06:05 AM

Physical copies can get damaged, they can get lost, they can become defunct if technology changes. Digital copies are always there, you can access them from any computer, they can be updated at the source. I'm not sure I'll ever buy a game physically again, there's just no point.

We are launching with English only, as the developers of PC munch did not translate it, so JAW will be taking care of that in the New Year, we will release updates for both games, with FIGS translations.

PC Stranger will LIKELY get an update... with the PS3 assets later in the year.
:

All things are being considered, here's our viewpoint...

1. We wanted you guys to have something to play as soon as possible.
2. We want to get PS3 Stranger RIGHT!, we're adding a lot to it, in terms of updating what it was. The game WILL be ...the same as before in terms of gameplay etc, but it will updated.

Also, the PC version HAS had the audio updated and all the dialogue is a lot better than it used to be.

Crashpunk 12-19-2010 07:26 AM

Its strange how there isn't any info about the OddBoxx on Steam. oh well :D

And i like how you can have a chose what to buy, I already own Abe's Exoddus (original pc copy :D) so I'll just buy the other 3

dripik 12-19-2010 07:37 AM

There was a rather appraising article about this in a Hungarian gaming news portal, titled "OddBoxx: The Return of a Legend". I was pleased to see this, even though I'm not planning to buy the pack.

lismati 12-19-2010 08:21 AM

Crash, you will probably pay more for 3, than for 4.

You know you can turn automatic updates off, right? Besides, you'd just have to install the updates manually another time. There's nothing wrong with keeping up to date.

Hooray!
