..On the 20th December we await new content just in time for Christmas!

Minecraft Beta: December 20, 2010

The next epoch is upon us! The skies are trembling, pigs are growing wings, and the nether is turning awfully cold, as Minecraft slowly crawls out of Alpha..

Minecraft will reach Beta status on December 20th, 2010.

With Beta comes a larger focus on polish and content, and we’ll start early on with adding proper modding support with a stable API, and we’d love all input we can get on this from the modders out there. We’ll also add some kind of non-intrusive narrative to the game to help drive the game experience early on, and to provide some kind of late game goal. There will be a bigger focus on testing and stability as well, with more time between updates.

When the game enters beta, the price will rise to 14.95 Euro.

We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free.

Soon, you will be able to buy gift codes for Minecraft, perfectly timed for the holidays! Even better, if you buy those before December 20, accounts created from these codes will count as alpha accounts, and will receive all future updates for free.

And the next game update (with server-side inventory) is coming next week, before Beta

lol, it's great, I must say I'm addicted to this game... I have even done a few Let's Plays of it as well as Half Life 2. (I finally got the game and I'm loving it) I can't wait till tomorrow when MC Beta comes out but I'm hoping, just like the Halloween update, that the new update won't be just a couple of features and that's all. I'm hoping they will add NPC's and NPC villages and maybe even Dragons! :D

I can't wait for it either, I bought it last week and I'm hooked on the thing... I've even neglected to play the new games that I got. I'm wondering though what is going to be different in the beta and if Notch announced it yet.

I suppose I should check shouldn't I?

I haven't been playing MC lately, though I'd gladly return if there was a proper multiplayer function. An OWF server would be very welcome.

That would just be fantastic :) Yeah ... I think I might see if I can make an Abe skin for you guys.

An OWF Server would be great... I have actually been making a giant castle in sigle palyer, that I may transfer to multiplayer...

Anyone else having problems with Minecraft? after I login, The window just goes blank..:(

No problems here, except that it stutters a lot on my laptop, but that's hardware-related. Did you try the in-browser or the downloaded client version? Also, you might want to update Java, it might help.

I'm absolutely fuming... found a nice wee cavern and explored near enough every inch of it and mined near all visible valuables from it just to land in some deep lava and die and lose everything I had. Now I have to go and find another nice big cavern to explore.

Nah, I thought on doing that but then I wanted to explore further from the spawn zone to find another one to search... a lot more fun that way.

Another thing I've read on the Minecraft forums:

Try this little funny thing, if you have difrent signs lik'e "!?*_.," in your computer username, try making a new user with letters only, it worked for me, easy an funny as h*

I can't believe I missed this thread, I usually hang out at the fan corner.

I make pretty good skins myself. (Not Really.)It wouldn't be a problem to make one or two skins and post em on minecraft skins. Then I'll just link the stuff to you! :D
