Why are we here, eh?

Ok, I've just had a thought. OWI havent released any new stuff since 2005. So. Why has it managed to have such a reasonably sophisticated fanbase for all these years? Lots of games companies have just made a few games then faded away...why is OWI still alive? Not that it's a bad thing, and of course they're doing stuff again now, but still...

All opinions welcome

Cheers

Because their games stood the test of time.

MeechMunchie 12-16-2010 12:54 PM

Because people like Oddworld enough to keep buying it, because the games are actually original.

OANST 12-16-2010 01:03 PM

Because the people who stopped caring about Oddworld a long time ago stuck around to be cruel to each other.

Crashpunk 12-16-2010 01:10 PM

Because its a unique and epic series and we've been begging for more.

don't lie to us, we know you still love Oddworld. :D

I couldn't agree with you more. I love Oddworld games, purely because they are so unique and original. :)

Because we don't talk about Oddworld much.

Reasonably sophisticated
Wrong forum?

Because Oddworld isn't a game franchise, it's an epic narrative storytelling reflecting the issues of Globalization to our world.

Not to mention the games are almost always perfect (MO aside).

why is OWI still alive?

Do you mean OWI or OWF?

And, assuming the latter, because I am friends with several members and feel warmly towards quite a few others. And this place occassionally makes me laugh.

Sekto Springs 12-16-2010 05:35 PM

My reason is the same as Nate's.
Not to mention my love for Oddworld hasn't fizzled out after all these years. I replay the games constantly, and alot of my art draws inspiration from Oddworld.

And this.

I think it's also because Oddworld isn't massively popular (unlike the COD series for example) that you can chat to your friends about. This is really the only place where people can talk to each other about Oddworld. I don't think anyone in my year group at school is an Oddworld fan, and only a couple (out of around 200) have actually heard of it. This is why I go on this forum; so I can actually talk to others about Oddworld.

MeechMunchie 12-17-2010 07:36 AM

I'd say OWF survived because no-one else knows what Oddworld is.

A lot of people seem to know about Oddworld from MO in the Xbox release, but they probably don't look into it any further like WE DO.

STM 12-17-2010 11:29 AM

Because we get by with each other usually and people like to talk about whether God does or doesn't exist...too much.

I think the main reason why I did not give up on Oddworld was because AO and AE were the greatest PC game I had ever played for quite some time. As of now, I am not sure if they still come out as the greatest, or if they have lost their place to another game. They are certainly on my list of top ten games.

On top of being one of the greatest PC games I have played, they are without a doubt the most inspirational games I have ever played. The only thing that comes close is BioShock.

A contributing reason is I have made friends here. Some of them, very good friends.

The final reason is probably that I have OWF set as home page, so I always check it daily.
