i really need AO and AE sprites, backdrop images and sounds
depending on how many resources i can get im planning on possibly creating an oddworld fangame... its going to have gamespeak from AO and AE... and its going to have an incredible zulag editor...
there are bunch of other things i would like to keep secret until i know i have enough resources to get started... i prefer the sprites to be "pinked" (use R:255 G:0 B:255 for the transparent parts) however any contribution is deeply appreciated |
There have been fan games already some have been successful, others perish, and some are in the making. As for sprites I'm pretty sure i saw some, on the forums some where.

If you have the games use paul's decoder to extract all the backgrounds and sprites and open the sound.dat file in audacity for all the sounds from Exoddus. http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=15680
EDITS: heres the exact post: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showpo...&postcount=839 for lots of info about this subject read through the whole forum, start to finish. Edit: You will also need the DLL's from here: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showpo...&postcount=784 |
wow... he really spent alot of time and effort on that, i cant even imagine...
that will help so much... im totally going to try to make a fangame to tell you all the truth though im using this game to try to fine tune the 2d portion of my own horribly incomplete engine... i have to thank paul, and he is definitely going in the credits (if i do create it successfully) are there any fangames for download? i would like to see what im up against |
Here's a couple of existing fan games being developed at the moment:

What ever happened to the Oddworld: Online / Standalone Flash Game? I was really liking that game.
|
yeah... i think i saw that 3d one on youtube a while back, but i didnt know they were actually going through with it...
did anybody ever figure out the speeds for the sounds.dat in audacity? |

Which is a shame, he got so far with it, I think he's working on stuff though because when I check up on his portfolio, it says something like it's being polished...but then our old website went down for fanwerkz v.1 and that's inaccessible now.
|
How did he get so far in it? He was still working on the basic movement when he encountered his problem and stopped production.
|
He built quite a bit of the game with Varrok but I remember him having programming difficulties after he completed the hoist movement
|
I remember a time when newbies would say that they wanted Oddworld sprites and we would reply "We all do..."
I also remember Fanwerkz and have the intention of reviving it next time I find myself with months of nothing to do. GG, thanks to Paul, resources from Oddworld are readily available, but sprites and sounds aren't even half the workload of a complete fangame. I wish you luck with whatever you plan on making. Unfortunately, a history of incomplete fangame projects suggests that you will need it. ~Blessed be |
Fanwerkz is the name Nowtun is using for his remake Carnix, I asked him and decided it's a good idea, Fanwerkz 2.0 if you will. Good times aye Carnix, OWIFG; Venks, remember him, Fillin, a lot of memories
|
I may be wrong but as I recall I came up with the name Fanwerkz to replace OWIFG because I couldn't (and still can't) stop reading that as 'Oh Well I'm Fucking Gay'.
I blame myself for what happened to Fanwerkz. I was relied upon to get the ball rolling on the game engine of our project. I said I'd start as soon as I had time. I didn't have time.. ~Blessed be |
Really I thought it was Joshkrz, my mind is fading lol. And don't blame yourself, after New Years there was almost no activity and if you didn't have time, then that's just life.
=) |
i cant promise that i will finish... i have a crap engine that i started making about 2 years ago, and im going to be using this project as a way to "field test" it
|
Do not under any circumstances work by yourself, this caused my epic fail a year or two ago, I lost interest simply because others did. Here's my (CRAPPY) Engine test, just don't fail it like I did.
http://oddworld-toff.site-forums.com...wnload-t82.htm Another tip I'll give you is Don't attack this all at once, create a work flow. e.g. Engine - Graphics - Sound - Script - Level Design - Code - Cutscenes - Aesthetics etc. If you're no good at script writing get a fan fiction writer to do one for the game (They'd love that). And get decent voice actors (Many people will do it for free just for the love of doing it). Don't announce big plans either, that puts pressure on you to do it (not fun) and you'll most likely crash and burn like me. Hope I could help you, Good Luck. Edit: Damn the DL is broken, well I can't be bothered to turn my Old PC back on. |
Actually IME you can work on the game yourself provided that the game is part of a greater objective. I'm working on an Abe's Exodus inspired game myself with very limited time and resources. What I'm doing at the moment is releasing new versions of the game as new separate games to promote various flash sites, which keeps me motivated to work on the next version.
