OddBoxx: AO & AE at higher resolution?

I've asked them directly but they replied No Comment. It's almost unbearable on modern monitor's resolutions. Is it being remastered in HD or are they just keeping the resolution they had back in '97-98?

Because it would be pointless for me to purchase the first two if it's the same.

OddChipango 12-01-2010 07:45 PM

I can only saiy that AO and AE in some kind of HD Remix like SF2T would be awesome. A wet dream for fans of the first two games.

Nate 12-01-2010 08:10 PM

Not happening.

Damn, well I hope they at least have an option to play in a window.

Taco 12-01-2010 11:02 PM

They're just getting achievments on steam. There wont be any updated graphics because the in-game graphics are pre-rendered or something and only work at a set resolution. And it doesn't look THAT bad on new monitors. I have a 22" LCD monitor and AO and AE still look decent.

Well I'm running a 30inch running at 2560px X1440px it's like playing Space Invaders in a cinema :fuzmad: I really hope there will be a window option, I don't want to bring out my very old CRT.

Phylum 12-01-2010 11:28 PM

I enjoy playing them less with my 16:10 monitor (and resolution).

I now just play AO on my PS3.

They're just getting achievements on Steam.

Not any more. Stranger's Wrath is, though.

Taco 12-02-2010 02:24 AM

Oh when did this happen? That kinda sucks

Gilrod 12-02-2010 02:35 AM

There is no updates at all to AO and AE...

"The Oddboxx" is basically a "deal" where you get the 4 games at a reduced rate, as opposed to buying them all separately.

So the versions of AO and AE on Steam are the versions that are covered by "The Oddboxx".

Crashpunk 12-02-2010 02:54 AM

so the AO and AE achievements aren't happening?

Wil 12-02-2010 03:10 AM

Unfortunately not: http://www.oddworld.com/?p=249#comment-247

I guess rebuilding AO and AE is more effort than its worth ;)

Try changing the upscaling options on your monitor. Choose some sort of smoothing to hide the pixels somewhat.

That sucks. Not even an audio remastered version or sth like that? That might work.

Manco 12-02-2010 09:18 AM

The audio for AO and AE is fine already, your'e thinking of Stranger.

What do you mean, Paul?

NovaMan 12-02-2010 12:02 PM

Fangames is the only solution.

luke3212 12-02-2010 12:13 PM

I'd want them to make the resolution changable, even if delays them by 5 years....

Should i run now?

Gilrod 12-02-2010 12:24 PM

There are a number of reasons why AO and AE are not being updated, the main one being, that it would need a major update of the source project to get those old tools and build structure to work on todays systems.

Or is there a sexier reason?! Hmmmmmm

Asmoden 12-02-2010 12:28 PM

I whant new games.
Not something like MO that whasen't really approved by OI.
What's the point in wasting time remastering again and again the same game?
I loved AO and AE, they will last forever in my memories, but new it's time to go on.:fuzblink:

Gilrod 12-02-2010 12:44 PM

Tell you what, you give them the X million dollars it would take to fund a brand new game and they'll get right on it.

The reason we're getting all these re-releases is to drum up some funding for new projects.

Careful. He might use his shaman powers to put you into a coma. He can do that, you know.

MeechMunchie 12-02-2010 01:11 PM

Mull that over.

He can and he did.

-Sigh-

I'm gonna go to work wondering what ut could possibly mean now...

OddChipango 12-02-2010 06:23 PM

We need new OI games.

I've read somewere OM was made in an hurry to match xbox relase and that Lorne wasn't really satisfed with it.

A combination of swapping systems and the release date caused a lot of content to be cut from the game.

I don't think that Lorne has ever said that, and I don't believe he would ever say it. You're thinking of those of us that knew what the game was going to be that were dissapointed.

I'm still looking forward to playing it with the release of the Oddboxx, though. It IS an Oddworld game and it'll be new to me.

Xavier 12-02-2010 10:52 PM

I'm pretty sure Lorne admitted publicly that this game wasn't all he wanted it to be.
