Does anyone know who bought this?

I read this was on ebay awhile ago,
Does anybody know who bought it? (If it was someone on the forums?)

This is a must have .. I would pay great money for this.

Sekto Springs 11-24-2010 12:36 AM

Probably Cullen Heath.
There was a period of no less than two years where he bought every piece of Oddworld merchandise that appeared on eBay, regardless of price.

ParaScrabTrav 11-24-2010 12:38 AM

I see.. u_u
He sounds like a hardcore collector with a bottomless bank account. sigh. I got some competition. -.-

EDIT:

And by the sounds of him, he wouldnt be willing to sell me anything.. hrm.

moxco 11-24-2010 12:47 AM

It's funny how we all hate him just because he can afford everything... Didn't OANST scam him once?

ParaScrabTrav 11-24-2010 12:49 AM

Why would I hate him? :) haha.
I'd love to see his collection though u_u, read alot.. seems like hes got the entire OI studio.

I was not aware that OWI actually sold that sort of thing. I assume(d) that they still had them at Oddmobb headquarters.

Probably it's just a well made copy.
The plastic model is still needed in game making process so i don't think they would likely sell it unless they don't intend to use scrab in next games(hope not):fuzconf:

Nope, it isn't needed anymore, technology has evolved...

Scam isn't the right word. Punished him for his inability to follow directions is more like it.

MeechMunchie 11-24-2010 07:50 AM

Or 'Scam, with a well-placed sense of justification' is another way of putting it.

OANST 11-24-2010 08:05 AM

The only reason that I take umbrage with the word is because the intent was never to keep the things that I put up on ebay. I would have lost money by sending the stuff to him because of his insistence on bidding on an auction that he couldn't possibly pay for in the manner that was described in the auction, and at the end of the day, I just couldn't live with it.

I'm pretty sure it was his parents' bank account, and it sure as hell wasn't bottomless as OANST demonstrated. His dad even agreed to drive out of state to retrieve a life-sized statue of Abe and Munch that was by pick up only. Either he has the coolest parents in the world, or he's the Veruca Salt of the Oddworld community.

If they use Scrabs in the next Oddworld, they will make a newer, updated model. And theirs also a chance that that model didn't survive. i mean it is at least 10 years old.

Phylum 11-25-2010 02:17 AM

It's not as if they made it out of paper maché.

Manco 11-25-2010 08:08 AM

I do remember a thread (or possibly a post in the Buy thread) where someone said "hey look what I found on ebay!", posted that picture, and linked to something completely irrelevant.

I thought it was pretty funny.

STM 11-25-2010 09:42 AM

Maybe you could pay Michael $100 for a scrab model, he makes amazing models but then, I'm probably out of line for speaking on his behalf

Michael 11-25-2010 01:02 PM

@ Scrabtrapman

Haha, thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately I think it would class as IP infringement were I to sell any models... but saying that, it does seem there's plenty of people up to it anyway :p

By the way, I hope nobody minds me posting this here, however I do not feel a new thread is needed and this seems like an appropriate time! I'm in the process of making a new Abe model :D Recently, I've moved from working at a 6" scale to larger models standing around 12", which allows me to capture far more detail. My last Abe was made around 5 years ago, so I decided to do a remake- its work in progress, I haven't long started so only the head is complete, but there's a few images attached if you're interested :) I'll post the final model once it's done.

P.S. sorry the images are a little blurry!

Nate 11-25-2010 04:09 PM

That's really good! The colours are spot-on.

Why do you make (and paint) the head seperate to the rest of the body?

MeechMunchie 11-26-2010 04:27 AM

Mudokon Pop!

Michael 11-26-2010 05:03 AM

Haha yeah, I noticed it looked like a Mudokon Pop! :p

@ Nate,

Actually, I used to make the whole model first and then paint it when complete, but recently I've been using a 'component' approach. A problem I found frequently before was that it was difficult to paint the whole model since some areas were near impossible to access with the brush (typically under the arms, and the sides of the torso)- so I switched to painting each part of the model separately, and then assembling it afterwards. Kind of like an airfix kit ;)

Also, it is a benefit because if I notice anything to improve on with the sculpting, I can alter it far more easily!

Asmoden 11-26-2010 08:18 AM

Join all the parts toghether will not be that easy thought because, while assembling, some can turn out to be bigger than others.:fuzemb:

Dynamithix 11-26-2010 08:47 AM

Damn, Michael, that's fucking amazing! :p

Manco 11-27-2010 02:59 AM

That Abe model is pretty damn amazing.

But allow me to be pedantic for a second and point out Abe has a sort of dappled skin tone on his forehad, not just a flat colour.

Jango 11-27-2010 04:15 AM

Is that Mudokon Pop in the photo actually edible? ;)

STM 11-27-2010 04:32 AM

Moargasmic as always Mike, good job!

Crashpunk 11-28-2010 01:20 AM

Holy shit! that Abe head is exact!

brechtos 11-29-2010 04:25 AM

Very nice!
Looking forward to seeing the completed model:D

It wasn't on ebay. It was a windup on the Buy List. I said it was for sale, then clicking on the false ebay link took you to an auction page for an original Vinyl of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up.

++ That Abe is awesome Michael! Bravo sir!

moxco 12-06-2010 03:09 AM

Nice job Michael; but why is his pupil half concealed by his socket?
