God

does he exist?

I think I am my own god and and created all of you. But I lost the control a little bit.

Wings of Fire 11-14-2010 12:45 PM

I think Solipsism is a disease of the mind brought on by being a tremendous douche.

mr.odd 11-14-2010 12:51 PM

This is bound to end horribly.

Ridg3 11-14-2010 12:51 PM

Where's my turtle...

mr.odd 11-14-2010 12:54 PM

Yea, if you're god, then do somthing this thing called "EVIL".

Wings of Fire 11-14-2010 12:56 PM

Could be that evil exists for the greater good.

Bullet Magnet 11-14-2010 01:52 PM

Then it's not really evil, is it?

I don't quite see the point you're making here.

If "evil" exists for a good purpose, is it really evil? If eliminating, combating or otherwise opposing "evil" prevents a greater good, then what would traditionally be a good act turns out to be evil. And we're back where we started, yet somehow unable to do good, and only evil. Which is apparently not itself evil.

Nemo 11-14-2010 04:25 PM

I am my own god. No one else is really important in my existence.

I think a theist would argue that having an evil to oppose is the greater good.

Bullet Magnet 11-14-2010 05:03 PM

You know I don't take much stock in theist positions on matters of theology.

enchilado 11-14-2010 07:01 PM

There's no such thing as "good" or "evil", sheesh you guys talk some crap.

Bullet Magnet 11-14-2010 07:08 PM

None of us has explicitly made the claim that there are.

enchilado 11-14-2010 07:35 PM

And I never explicitly made the claim that you said there were.

Wings of Fire 11-14-2010 08:06 PM

I am not arguing from my own position. I tend to do this.

I doubt there is a higher power.

OP:

Are you fucking serious?

At least the other religious/existentialist debate threads have had a tiny bit of substance, like a thinly vieled news item or something. This is just completely ridiculous, and I have no idea why this thread is still open. This is not a debate, this is a "Yes or no" answer thread.

So what's your answer then: yes or no?

T-nex 11-15-2010 04:26 AM

I was considering closing it... But some of the people here seem to have found a genuine discussion out of it. Now keep doing that or you'll make me mad!!!! >: C

Anyway Scrabface, next time at least try and make a thread with substance, ok? :)
Things like this are better kept to blogs.

Oh and my answer is: It depends.

scrabface 11-15-2010 04:38 AM

well to be honest I never expected a yes or no answer. but on the other hand, it's that simple. If you believe in religion you have to accept the dogma and it's "fact" that god exists and all other worlds of faith are untrue.
and that's my biggest critic on religion.
now asking for the existence of god goes much further as I do not believe in religion (I was brought up catholic), but I do believe in some sort of god. there must be something beyond the universe. but my simple hominids brain will never be capable of understanding the true nature.
asking single questions doesn't mean that I ask for simple answers.

T-nex 11-15-2010 04:55 AM

But if the thread derails into simple spammyness, it doesn't really matter what you intended. But it's not exactly the case right now.

Anyway, I don't think that anyone can be sure what 'God' would be. Also, what is each individual's definition of god? Some people refer to the Universe as God. Some people believe that we are already gods because we can create life(we really can).
I think the image of some dude sitting in heaven, watching us is outdated.

My own personal belief is that, that we really just create our own gods.
I can't even start to imagine what the world would be if I wasnt placed in my human vessel. the only reason you perceive things as they are, is because they are processed through your senses. So really. Anything you perceive is subjective.
Who know, maybe we and all other living organisms are what made the universe into something substantial, because we observed it through our own senses.

Try and imagine if if your mind stepped out of your body, and you were suddenly connected to everything in the entire existence. If you had no physical restrictions. Nothing. What would you experience? Would you even be aware of yourself anymore?
Maybe that's what a God would be. An entity connected to everything, but then I can't imagine that this god would be as portrayed in religion. Cos without a body with senses to perceive things, how would that entity be able to feel love and hate?

Oh well, I'm just rambling now :D I'm sure there's tons of wrongs and holes in what I just said. It's still fun to think about.

Havoc 11-15-2010 08:03 AM

Okay guys, public poll time.

Should Havoc participate in this topic? Yay or nay? Please leave your thoughts below.

Yes.. sure why not!

STM 11-15-2010 08:42 AM

Yes, I believe in God, I think I'm right in saying that I'm also one of the few active members that does? Anywho, I don't want to really get involved because whenever the religion related questions pop up I get angry and make myself look even more retarded than normal.

T-Nex knows ^_^

But yeh, I think he's real and funky
