Let's Plays
Me and my mate have been working on Let's Plays for a bit now and we've uploaded our first one! our first game is... (OANST is going to love this) ...Crash Bandicoot. Keep in mind guys that this is our first time narrating a video so don't insult us please. (I have a slight speech problem so yeah don't)
Our next LP is Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and we're even thinking about Abe's Oddysee and Spyro the Dragon http://www.youtube.com/user/ChilwellGamers Let's Play Crash Bandicoot |
I don't understand. Why would I want to watch you play a video game?
|
Why the hell not.
1. Its funny (well it can be) 2. Its a great way to show how much you like gaming If its not your style well so be it, i don't mind. Also i knew you would be the first to comment OANST :tard: |
They're supposed to give you a better idea of how the game plays than a gameplay trailer because someone is explaining what they're doing.
|
So why is it being done for games that have been out for ten years?
|
3 reasons. a) The other Let's Plays may be rubbish, b) Some people still may not be aware of the game or only just getting around to trying it or c) Many older games were released without much in the form of representative media, so Let's Plays are the only way to see how the game works with any accuracy.
For example, a few months back I discovered Arcanum at the bottom of one of my drawers. It had no trailer, its website was outdated and had fallen into disrepair and I wasn't just going to wander into the Arcanum Forums and ask 'So is this game any good?' because people there would only say 'Yes'. I looked up a Let's Play on YouTube. The game was already ten years old when the bloke made the video, but I'm still very glad he did, because it required a lot of patching and modding and I wouldn't have liked to go through all that to find the game was rubbish. Of course, why someone would make a Let's Play for a bad ten-year-old game is a different question... |
Wait a minute. You had the game in your hands, and you watched a Lets Play to see if you would like it? Have you lost your fucking mind?
|
The grumpy old man has a point. Why would you waste time searching for reviews of a game you own when you could simply waste time playing it yourself?
|
I like watcing LPs of old games, brings back memories of good times, of course I could just play mine but sometimes it's fun to hear other people's opinions of the game (providing that they're actually witty)

Especially Crashpunk's opinions.

Who the hell watches a Lets Play as a review?
Lets Plays are things a couple of nerds get together for, drink beer and play really bad or stupid games. They're either funny or they're not. |
They did the Oddworld games, you know.
|
How far they have fallen.

Okay Its pretty clear that nobody likes Let's plays. and let's plays aren't reviews. don't treat them as reviews.
:
Its also very clear that people here don't like me. I don't know why, what did I do? I've been here for 2 years now and I'm sick of the insults and i'm sick of the shit I get just because I use to have really bad grammer. anyway. Can I request a Mod deleting this thread please. |
I watch the occasional Let's Play as a way of seeing how other people have played the game.
For example, I read a let's play of someone who went through Fallout 3 as Gordon Freeman which killed about an hour at work. |
Let's plays are fun because they're not reviews, walkthroughs, or strategy guides. They're meant to be a way to watch someone else playing a game, for the purpose of watching someone else playing a game.
It's difficult to describe why they're fun. Just watch this instead. |
:
And you spelled grammar wrong. Edit: I just noticed the negrep you gave me. tsk tsk. |
The only two Lets Plays I've ever found entertaining are Lets Plays of Sonic 06 and IWBTG
The former because it was atrocious and they took the royal piss out of it, the latter because it was so hard that the guy broke down several times. |
I'll watch the occasional speed run as long as the person playing never talks. The moment they start talking is the moment I stop watching.
|
I love watching LP's, and have been since 2008ish.
Cypheron48's LP of Banjo-Tooie is certainly the best one I've watched. He's so goddamn funny. |
:
I'm not saying they're good for everyone. I don't enjoy watching someone blunder lazily through a game any more than the next man, but a sufficiently empassioned player can make some of that passion rub off on you. Trailers try and make the game look good, Let's Plays make the game look like the game. A player's not trying to sell it you, they're just saying why they like it. Of course, they can be boring as hell. Only a couple of times have I actually watched them with any interest, and then only to inform decisions as to whether I should play it, not for entertainment. |
:
Fatty Roswell *shivers* MAKE IT STOP!! I like you crashpunk, you're enthusiasm towards these old school games makes me happy. It's good to see a contemporary keeping the PS1 library alive, that's why you my nigga. |

That too. I was tempted to post that the first time, but I like to make a flailing attempt to preserve my dignity first.
|
I dont bother looking for Lets Plays since most of them suck ass.
Giantbomb's Quicklooks are basically lets plays, but good and of unreleased games. I fucking love Quicklooks. |
I agree with Daxter in that the majority of them are shit and by 10-year-olds. But there are some really good ones out there.
|
Now, I've watched quite a few of Giantbomb's Quicklooks, and I enjoyed those. So, ponder that, bitches.
