I'm just asking a question here, but how often do the people here give other's rep? I just want to know because there are a lot of people with just 1 rep power and is this because people just don't want to give them rep or is it because they forget the rep button is even there? ...
I've been kinda wondering about how it works and everything too and I want to know how I can get a lot of rep power.
If you could take your time to help me out, it would be appreciated.

Phylum 10-10-2010 01:09 AM

You can't get a lot of rep power.

You can't get a lot of rep power.

I'm aware of that, but do you usually give it to people who are deserving on a regular basis?
I'm not complaining or anything but I just don't know if people would get rep if they deserve it.

Phylum 10-10-2010 02:00 AM

I give rep as often as posts diserve it.

STM 10-10-2010 02:30 AM

Usually in my case neg rep...ain't that right Phylum you little rogue you.

Nate 10-10-2010 03:58 AM

Rep power ≠ Rep.

Learn the difference.

Ridg3 10-10-2010 10:12 AM

I was wondering this as well... is your rep power based on how much pos/neg-rep you dish out to people?

Wings of Fire 10-10-2010 10:23 AM

Okay.

You start off with 1 rep power

It increases by 1 every 1000 posts
It increases by 1 every year you're a member.
It increases by 1 every 500 rep.

Ridg3 (1), you've been a member for more than a year (1), have 1000-2000 posts (1) and 500-1000 rep (1).

1+1+1+1=4

I (1) have 5000 posts (5), have been here nearly three years (2) and have 6400 rep (12).
1+5+2+12=20.

Mudokon_Master 10-10-2010 12:51 PM

Thanks WOF and thanks Phylum. I'm all good now.

Splat 10-10-2010 03:51 PM

Being a member of staff also gives you +1 rep power (being admin might give you more than +1; I'm not sure).

enchilado 10-10-2010 03:54 PM

If you're an admin you just roundhouse kick their rep to whatever you want.

Yes and no, respectively.

I only did that once and Sekto had it coming.

Phylum 10-11-2010 01:55 AM

If I recall correctly, you set his rep to around -33,000

enchilado 10-11-2010 01:57 AM

I was referring to Chuck Norris, actually.

moxco 10-11-2010 03:05 AM

And as this is my two- thousandth post my rep shold now be seven.

EDIT: Yay! WoF was right!

MeechMunchie 10-11-2010 04:45 AM

Skillfully done.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 10-11-2010 05:04 AM

what does it mean when you get blue rep? is it negrep or posrep?

Wil 10-11-2010 05:10 AM

It's when the person who gave you rep has a rep power of zero, so it doesn't affect your rep at all, and you have no way of knowing whether they wanted to posrep or negrep you.

Ridg3 10-11-2010 05:16 AM

Well, technically you can. Whenever you leave neg-rep it always asks you to leave a comment and people most commonly leave negative comments on neg-rep, so if you see a blue rep bar with no comment or with a positive comment it means that they (most likely) pos-repped you.

OANST 10-11-2010 07:52 AM

Rep is so lame. I am so over it.

Yes, I'm only saying that because I have a lot of it.

MeechMunchie 10-11-2010 10:25 AM

I've been here less than two years and I'm in the top ten. I couldn't give a toss about getting any further.

STM 10-11-2010 11:21 AM

I never thought that rep was that important, probably because over the years I have gained it very slowly and I'm not interesting enough to get it any faster. YEY FOR AVERAGE!

YEY FOR AVERAGE!

What about the mediocre people? :(

OANST 10-11-2010 11:56 AM

They're stupid.

Mudokon_Master 10-11-2010 01:59 PM

So I have +14 rep. Does that mean people have given it to me, or I've earned it with posts or how long I've been here?

enchilado 10-11-2010 02:03 PM

Okay, go back and read Nate's and WoF's posts again.

Then read them again.

Do you feel stupid yet?

Wil 10-11-2010 02:35 PM

To be fair, vBulletin's presentation of the information is confusing. If I were making message board software, I'd do it more clearly.

MA 10-11-2010 02:57 PM

i wouldn't. i'd make it as complicated as possible to make myself feel clever.

enchilado 10-11-2010 02:59 PM

My idea of how a rep system should work.

OANST 10-11-2010 03:02 PM

You clever little shit.
