Oddworld's Difficultly.

What do you think is the hardest bit in AO and AE and is there any you still find really difficult so this day.

I find the secret areas in the Scrab Vaults really challenging.

and this one

I was on stuck on the first one for about a couple of days.

Secret Area B (Stockyard Escape) in Abe's Oddysee, that one is a fucking cunt!

STM 09-28-2010 07:23 AM

I could never do return to stockyards because of them damn mines, y'know, the 4 floating ones

erwinraaben55 09-28-2010 08:39 AM

Only the secrets with Scrabs were difficult (like the ones mentioned above)

All with fleeches are pretty easy (as is the one mentioned above)

MuMI 09-28-2010 08:54 AM

That's the thing about Oddworld! It has lots of challenging parts!

Jango 09-28-2010 10:43 AM

For me, in Zulag 4 just before you reach the Boardroom, where you are controlling a slig and have to turn around and shoot oncoming slogs from both sides. So hard and unforgiving! Something that makes Oddworld truly great. :)

nowtun 09-28-2010 10:55 AM

for me, the hardest part was the bonewerkz when you possess phleg. telling that slig what to do was a pain in the arse

this, this, this!

enchilado 09-28-2010 11:42 AM

I found all parts of AE pretty easy, except that I missed a couple of secret areas.

AO, well, I was just skimming through, not doing any secret areas. So everything was pretty easy, except getting Elum in Scrabania, which took me forever.

Mikaeel 09-28-2010 03:25 PM

I do speed-throughs of Exoddus all the time and the one that still annoys me to this day, is the one where you gotta roll under those damn saws.

GRRRRRRRR!

I had more trouble with this part than any other, even the very very last bit, where you're saving the 'last' Mudokon for Shrykull. Humungous pain.

Oh yeah that ones a pain in the ass. It took me ages to even get past the Slogs.

And also Stockyards return is also really difficult. I really envy LoStraniero91 who can complete it without dying.

Namida 09-29-2010 04:19 AM

Agree'd, the double-sided slog attack.

And you can't even cheat, unlike the one in the Scrabania secret area. =(

True, but if you die accidentally (like, say, with the last one that comes from the wrong direction that I always forget about), you can still kill slogs with grenades.

Dynamithix 09-29-2010 05:45 AM

I thought the whole Paramonia part of Oddysee was pretty hard.

Nath 09-29-2010 06:20 AM

Always found Scrabania harder than Paramonia

MuMI 09-29-2010 07:07 AM

I think the secret zones after escaping Rupture Farms were frustrating because everytime Abe dies, I had to start over!
Good thing AE introduced "quicksave" option!

Jango 09-29-2010 11:22 AM

Exodus would be so much harder then Oddysee without the quicksave option. I guess not 'harder' as such, it would just be fifty times more frustrating, but also a challenge.

And another thing, I don't know about you guys, but when I play Abe's Oddysee through (especially when I played it through the first time) it has this really amazing feel to it. When I play through Exodus, that really good feeling doesn't seem to be there. I think it's because Exodus is more slapstick than Oddysee; the music on Exodus doesn't seem to give you those defeated, downbeat thoughts that the Oddysee music does. Do you know what I mean? Like, compare the music in the first bit of Stockyard escape to the music in Slig Barracks. Slig Barracks music seems upbeat, while the Stockyards music is really daunting and downbeat. They give you completely different feelings. You probably think I'm mad, but it's true. Do you think that too?

Luskan 09-29-2010 12:40 PM

I don't know about that. Oddysee with the opening and general tone does seem much more downbeat. The areas you go around in Exoddus seem a bit more lively, you seem less alone. I still think they are both just lush though, compare them both to Munch's oddysee and they both seem loads more atmospheric and the music is much better etc.

But yeah, with regards to this actual topic, i often found some of the temple levels tricky and the secret areas. But i haven't properly played through the games in ages so i may be a bit better in those areas now. At the time i remember the zulag areas being a bastard as well.

erwinraaben55 09-29-2010 02:15 PM

Hmmm. Talking about Munch, now THAT is a hard game!
Damn that stupid camera, very bad jumps and what not more that caused me to curse more than AO+AE did. I always smiled when I died in AO or AE, happily tried again.

When something went wrong in MO: Oh damn, cursed everything, and ALOT went wrong in it! And you can blame it almost all on the game, not on gamerskillz. Like walking up spiral stairs is a drama on itself. And that is just walking on something. Imagine when you have to jump on something. Partly the Xbox controller is also the cause, but still.... I was glad I finished MO :-) (and so were the neighbours I guess)

Is that the one with the Scrab chasing you, while there are holes in the floor? That one is a fucker. Probably the hardest in the series.

just_an_(ODD)alisque 09-29-2010 10:42 PM

the part in exoddus where you run from a slog than posess a slig shoot some slogs, kill the slig, than fleeches start chasing you and you have to get invisibility(wich lasts for really short)and go trough 2 more sligs hit a lock and than teleport right into a bunch of fleeches...and there is no time for quicksave...:D

enchilado 09-29-2010 10:47 PM

No time for Quiksave? But it takes no time at all to Quiksave.

Nath 09-30-2010 12:28 AM

But you wont want to quicksave just before a death you can't escape from, as I have done many times. Then you have to go back to an old saved point which could've been hours ago. Now that's annoying

Dixanadu 09-30-2010 12:45 AM

Hard and annoying parts I've come to loathe. Abe's Oddysee first:

The one Ridg3 aforementioned, that one was more annoying than hard, especially when you have a dodgy triangle button.

In Scrabanian Temple, there's a secret area like that, except the Scrab is in closer proximity and there's three Mudokons this time. The run isn't as long though, but the jumps are a bitch (damn triangle).

Paramonian Temple, there's the one labelled 'Paramite Feeding Area'. It was annoying enough keeping them occupied, but then having to dodge falling rocks right after was agony.

Again in Paramonian Temple, both occassions you have to dodge swinging, spiked rocks. God, that was annoying.

Stockyard Return, in it's entirity, was both annoying and hard.

I didn't find many parts in Abe's Exoddus hard/annoying thanks to the QuikSave (I'm a cheating bastard too, I know the Invincibility cheat off by heart, but only use it when I'm really stuck then switch it off.)

Two such parts that annoyed me when invincible or not, was when you possessed Phleg, having to go through all those Slog kennels, with that saw slowly grinding down. Finally, the game ender too. That angry Mudokon is still my #1 most hated game character for his reluctance to co-operate.

Munch's Oddysee was not hard. No Mud's Land was annoying.

I can't remember Stranger's Wrath, I only played through it three times and that was years ago. I should get Ridg3 to throw me it down sometime so I can get a blast at it again.

enchilado 09-30-2010 12:53 AM

Meh, possessing Phleg was easy. It took me maybe three goes (plus, you can Quiksave after each lot of Slogs...)

The game ender I didn't find that difficult either.

Crashpunk 09-30-2010 02:09 AM

Who thinks Bonewerks is harder then Slig Barracks? I found Slig barracks not too difficult (Some parts were hard I guess) and the Driplik possession wasn't too bad as well. I found Bonewerks so difficult at then end at least.

Phleg for me was the hardest part in Abe's Exoddus. maybe a close second to the Boiler

just_an_(ODD)alisque 09-30-2010 02:36 AM

speaking of annoying parts:I find annoying every part ot AO where you must lead mudokons one by one...
and yes, slig barracks is easier than bonewerks.A lot easier

Dixanadu 09-30-2010 06:25 AM

Eugh, Bonewerkz was a breeze, excluding the last part.

Slig Barracks was a pain in the ass.

Hazel-Rah 09-30-2010 06:32 AM

I can't get through Slig Barracks, it keeps freezing on me >_>

WHERE'S DAT ODDBOX LORNE
