Questions about Munch's Oddysee

I don't entirely understand the start of the game, Munch's Oddysee. These were the questions going through my head playing it for the first time.
1. "Who is this "Al-Mighty Raisin??"
2. "Where is Abe? What's this dark cave place? How did he get here?"
3. "Why are the Mudokon's meditating? Have they always been able to float in the air?"

I didn't quite understand why Abe was in the cave at the start of the game, and certainly didn't know who the Al-Mighty raisin is!!

Some people please help me? Tell me how he got there? Perhaps get a background story on how Mudo's meditate and who the Raisin is?
Thanks.

You should check out the Oddworld website. It's chock full of information!

Thanks nate, this helped me understand some parts of the game.

Mudokon_Master 09-14-2010 12:14 AM

Yeah, that was helpful, but it still doesn't explain why Abe turned up in his cave, lol.
I probably shouldn't worry too much about it though.
Thanks

Because he wanted advice from a wise mentor. What's so unusual about that?

Or are you simply confused because they didn't show how Abe got from the pedestal at the end of AE to the Raisin's Cave in MO?

(I imagine he walked.)

AvengingGibbons 09-14-2010 03:54 AM

I think he flew RyanAir

Ok; now I've got some questions, lol:

1. Is the Almighty Raisin apart of any species on Oddworld?
2. Why do the native Muds look so different from the ones present in AO and AE? For example the painted faces and weapons; have they suddenly become more advanced since the events of AE?

He's a tree. He's just become bigger and wiser over his centuries of existence, as well as losing his roots and branches.

The Monsaic Lines are just that - a Monsaic area for monastic Muds. In MO, they show a more typical mudokon culture, with trade and hunting and farming and whatnot. Think of the difference between a village and a Buddhist refuge.

Also, gameplay necessity.

Nate 09-14-2010 05:13 AM

Also, many of the 'native' muds in MO were slaves that Abe freed in the previous games and had taken on their traditional warrior roles. Compare that to the Muds in the Monsaic Lines, who were always free and lived lives of quiet, safe contemplation.

Basically what I'm saying is that different life paths and different jobs lead to different physical appearance.

Stranger4002 09-14-2010 09:47 AM

Ah ok; cheers for answers Meech and Nate, much appreciated. :)

I would imagine he walked too :) rofl
I'm confused because it doesn't show how he got there and how he knew about the AlMighty Raisin being a wise mentor.
I could imagine his newspaper add.

Have you seen The Matrix Reloaded? It doesn't start with Neo flying through the sky.
Have you seen The Empire Strikes Back? They didn't explain how Luke got from the grand ceremony to Hoth.

That's because, just like with AE and MO, there was a period of time in between when the two stories were set for characters to move around and meet each other.

Walk from point A to point B would make a dull tutorial level if they made to scale and it took several hours.

I think a better question (which we also don't have an answer for) is what happened to Big Face and how did Abe hook up with the Shaman.

EDIT: Hook up with him as a mentor, I mean. Though that's a fair idea for OANST's next bit o' fanfiction.

The BigFace was originally planned for Munch's Oddysee but he was cut out, like so many others (Alf, the Fat Mudokon, the Guide who had the wide hat, etc.) when they had to rush and release an unfinished game.

I really liked the BigFace and hope he comes back in future games.

I guess this all makes sense. Thanks a lot guys. If an admin is reading this, you can delete the thread if you want.
Thanks

Alf was in MO. He was the mud who gave Abe a 'reassuring pat on the back' at the well.

From where did you hear that Buddy and the hat mud were going to be in MO? I'm pretty sure that Buddy was just a character mentioned by Alf and then incorporated in the Daily Deception for our amusement's sake.

I think it's because of this picture:

Is it just me, or is that pose of BigFace just a screenshot of the good ending of AO? It's a nice image, but it's obviously just a cobbling together of a bunch of concept images rather than anything that can be interpretted as a gameplay promise. It isn't even a good photoshop job - look at the shadows under the quazi-fuzzle creatures on the left.

Phylum 09-16-2010 03:54 AM

I notice that OWI had one image of a slog that they were very fond of. The one on the back of the AO box made several other appearences.

Crashpunk 09-22-2010 12:15 AM

If the Mudokons in MO were slaves you saved in AO or AE. it would of been awesome if they told you who they were.

"Remember me! You saved me in Bonewerks!"

Mudokon_Master 09-25-2010 04:39 PM

That would be sweet. They should make more Mudokons with names such as Alf or BigFace, although we don't know BigFace's real name. There should be a Mudo could Herman. That's an awesome name for a Mud.

Who is the bashed up fella in the wheel chair? Also on the hooking up with big face bit, didn't he just appear when Abe broke his head by falling off that cliff, I believe he effectively died there to. Hmm.

Nate 09-26-2010 05:53 AM

Seeing as he was seen in several FMVs up until the end of AO and the start of AE, I doubt Bigface died then.

I'm pretty sure its just a Mudokon that has been beaten badly by a Slig or two

STM 09-27-2010 10:16 AM

Heh, Nate, I didn't mean Big face died there, since he saved Abe later, I meant Abe died there and was brought back to life. Like mudokon Jesus blasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyb lasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemyblasphemy

Yeah, well, we got the Jesus/Neo reference years ago. Why was it relevant to that post?
